Category?[edit]

I don't know what category this should go in, but I know that its current category is incorrect. The locked counterpart is categorized under trophies, but this version does not actually drop from foes. Would it be items? --Emelend 22:30, 15 April 2012 (UTC)

What we really need is to make up a new category for misc items that both the locked and unlocked would go into. Trophy is currently being referred to as the drops that are used for crafting so that Locked version is also in the wrong category. So would we want to make a Miscellaneous Items category, misc category that has a different name, or just stick everything that doesn't fit into a category into the Items category? User Mattsta Sig1.jpgUser Mattsta Sig2.jpg 22:44, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
As it is now, a Miscellaneous Items category sounds the best, but I can imagine down the road having some sort of "Presents" category akin to that on the Guild Wars Wiki. --Emelend 23:49, 15 April 2012 (UTC)

Proposal to merge pages.[edit]

I see a page for Mystic Chest, and a page for Mystic Chest (Locked) Why? Might be better to have a single page that describes them. Splitting the pages this way fragments the information. Might as well have a separate page for each color of Moa while we are at it. "Red Moa. This Moa is red. It uses a kick attack." "White Moa. This Moa is white. It uses a kick attack." "Blue Moa. This Moa is blue. It uses a kick attack." And dye (only 400+ colors, right?). When it comes time to make a change to the content, you get stuck updating dozens of pages that way. Those are extreme cases, and my argument for merging these two pages is more for the consumer of the page. Seriously: Is there a legitimate reason to have a separate page for the locked and unlocked forms of the chest? Torrenal 17:46, 6 May 2012 (UTC)

Because there are two items in-game. We document the game as is: you can have "Mystic Chests" and seperate "Mystic Chest (Locked)". Aqua (T|C) 17:56, 6 May 2012 (UTC)
Great. Any volunteers for the dye pages? Torrenal 19:07, 6 May 2012 (UTC)

Drop Rates[edit]

Is there energy around compiling drop rates for these and other items? Torrenal 04:30, 7 May 2012 (UTC)

I had screenshot every monster i killed and every piece of loot that was received from the kill, but the shots did not save parts of the UI. I suspect that others did the same with no results. If we're able to capture the images from the screenshots for the next beta, perhaps we can compile something useful. Venom20 User Venom20-icon-0602-sm-black.png 05:04, 7 May 2012 (UTC)
We should only compile drop rates (for anything) as long as we can make it easy for ppls to tell the numbers are from the beta. I assume ANet will tweak drop rates to test during the beta and to balance for final release, i.e. I doubt drop rates during the beta will (always) correlate with those in the game. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 06:00, 7 May 2012 (UTC)
I read that as a "Yes, there's energy around drop rates, but not necessarily for the beta". Torrenal 03:48, 9 May 2012 (UTC)
Furthermore, it would take a lot of concerted effort to achieve anything resembling a reasonable sample size during the BWEs. I would definitely recommend waiting until launch. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 04:16, 9 May 2012 (UTC)
Point. No harm having some templates together in advance. Once the game actually launches, people will be scrambling in game for some weeks before coming up for breath. I'll look at cobbling some together after the next beta weekend Torrenal 05:45, 9 May 2012 (UTC)
Keep in mind that there's no rush to start collecting data on the day the game goes live. We did that (on GWW) with strongboxes in similar circumstances and the results are ... not as good as if we had taken our time (in particular, we started collecting data before we were sure about what dropped and what, if anything, was different between the various containers). I'm not saying we should wait until release day to start preparing; I'm saying let's be careful that we understand what data we need to collect first. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 08:31, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
I Disagree with the collection of drop rates, the BWE was a short event. this causes us to have a lack of information AND the information THAT we have could've been alternated for the BWE (higher drop rates) --you like that don't you..The Holy Dragons 08:49, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

Forced to Buy $$$ Keys[edit]

you slave all day and work all night only to spend all your gold or cash to buy keys to open an item drop?? I don't get it! Are things soo bad that we are forced to support the in game or game developer's economy? I mean really forced to buy keys for in game loot or daily rewards?? I mean really i don't mind if it's soulbound to the character that earned it but forced to buy keys with gems?? Just to open rewards?? for in game progress??? Make the PAY to WIN player pay in gems for keys for unlocked chests that they didn't earn but bought, and let the players that earn the chests open them for free or sell them through the trading post, which then locks them and requires a key. Really is that soooo hard to code? Pay to open an earned reward REALLY???? Bah! I think the Soulbound thing is overused enough as it is already forcing item destruction instead of allowing hand me downs within the same account, AccountBound would be better at least but character bound? all these tricks and sneaky ways for the company to FORCE micro-transactions. Are things really that bad??? Rudhraighe 22:46, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

Think of it the other way around. The gems just buy an unlocked chest. You pay the 125, and get that reward. But wait, then people would just spam-buy them. So...we limit it a different way. They pay for the key, but the number of times they can use it is limited by the amount of time they play the game. It really is more balanced like this if you view it from a something-from-nothing perspective rather than a nothing-from-something perspective. Well...thats my idea anyways. I really don't like it anymore than you, I was crushed when I got a magic box in the beta and couldn't open it... This topic has been covered again and again ad nauseam on gw2 guru and just about any gw2-related forum. Wiki talk pages are not really the place to discuss this topic. --Thervold 22:55, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
Conversations like this are helpful to me to see how to document certain features and/or bugs, because it gives insight into how players are reacting to aspects of the game. If people persist in believing that the only way to open mystic chests is to spend real world money, then it behooves us to update our descriptions of chests, keys, gems, and the trading post to show it just isn't true. For example, keys aren't the only way to open the chests — Asuran Butler Golems will open as many mystic chests as you like; we have no way of determining how easy/difficult they are to obtain. Also: Gems are fully tradeable for Coin; while we don't know the rate of exchange, evidence to date (from the stats during BWE) show the Trading Post does a good job of matching supply/demand, making it unlikely that players will be priced out of the market.
The initial response to the original post also suggests an alternative way to present information about the game. In short, I think this section is a reasonable place to discuss the topic. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 23:49, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
Well, I sorta thought that the golem butlers would only be available to first 5 days to certain people. I somehow doubt they will see too much use later on... Kormon Balser User Kormon Balser Tango-dervish-icon-small.png 00:22, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
Two different things. Golem Bankers are the gimmick for the deluxe edition; Asuran Butler Golems are ... not clear what they are yet or how to obtain them; they were previewed during a press beta. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 00:45, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
Not to mention, Mystic Keys drop in-game. I got one during the BWE. So buying them from the gem store is not the only way to obtain keys and unlock the chest. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 01:42, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
At last count i had 45 Mystic Chest (Locked) in my bank vault and that was just from the 3 characters i played during the public BWE1 and at a cost of 125 Gems each that is a whopping total of 5625 Gems i have no idea what that would be in $$$$ but it's probably more than i earned in those 3 days. My point is i would rather have had a decent piece of new usable equipment Soulbound or not as a reward than a box i cannot open without paying real money or playing 40 years and never being able to catch up to the backlog. Is a Golem Butler going to be able to open STACKS of chests?? or just 4 or 5? or only 1 ?? side note: even at the exchange rate of 100 Gems per 10 Silver coin that would be a cost of 5 Gold coin 62 Silver coin 50 Copper coin i was lucky to have at most 4 Silver coin at the end of the weekend fron all 3 characters combined. Rudhraighe 14:11, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
Just discard them. You don't have to open every chest you find. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 14:54, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
It's true that obtaining 45 mystic keys seems to be difficult so far. However: they can purchased at the Trading Post, the gems could be purchased at the post, or you can use the Butler to open up as many as you want. (FYI if I had found even 10 chests during the beta, I would have put some up for sale to help finance the opening of the others.) Plus, the game hasn't been released yet, so we have no way of knowing if mystic keys drop like ectos for a 7H party in FoW or like Sapphires from LoDs in Frostmaw's — it's entirely possible that they are far easier to find in higher level areas or purchasable for karma after higher level events. In short, I think we have to wait and see whether we should be legitimately up in arms or if this is much ado about nothing. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 16:33, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
