Text[edit]

Ministry of Justice Rulings, 1738–1741 CC

This dry and litigious text is filled mostly with banal verdicts issued by the Ministry of Justice in disputed legal cases. However, there is one exception: A case between the Ministry of Purity and the imperial regent once Emperor Bitgaram had become too ill to govern. As the emperor's daughter was still a child at the time, the minister argued that the powers invested in his office to combat the Risen (in particular, that he "speaks with the emperor's voice") gave him the authority to overrule the candidate brought by the Imperial Court. The text records a heated dispute, decided along razor-thin margins in favor of the minister.

Members of the review panel arguing against the minister's position reappear later in the book, charged with "sedition and impure practices."
