Update - July 26, 2016[edit]

Living World[edit]

The first episode of Living World Season 3, Out of the Shadows, is now available for those who have purchased Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns™. Please review our FAQ for details on how to unlock episodes for free.

Out of the Shadows[edit]

Following the death of Mordremoth, Tyria finds itself in a never-before-seen heightened state of excess magic. This bounty of power causes an old nemesis to resurface, with a devastating result. Can the heroes stem the enemy's tide, or will Tyria be consumed by this returned threat?

Fractals[edit]

New Fractal – Chaos Isles[edit]

Fractal Revamps[edit]

Like Cliffside, both the Swampland and Snowblind fractals have been revamped to improve pacing, scaling, and overall enjoyment.

Fractal Selection UI[edit]
  • Added tabs for navigating between the four difficulty tiers.
  • Mistlock instabilities are now shown for each fractal.
  • Added text descriptions to each fractal.
  • Added indicators for daily fractals.
  • Added color-coded text to indicate relative agony danger based on character agony resistance.
  • Added the ability to choose a random fractal in a tier.
  • Added text to indicate daily achievement fractals.

Infusions and Infusion Slots[edit]

With the Infusion system being unnecessarily complex for what it does, we've taken steps to simplify how infusions work and make acquiring them far more straightforward. First off, we removed most of the restrictions on which kind of infusion you can place into each kind of equipment. For balance reasons, we had to keep utility infusions and amulets separate, but all other types of infusions can now be slotted into any kind of ascended equipment.

  • Infusion subtypes have been removed.
    • Offensive, defensive, and agony infusions are now simply known as infusions, and any infusion can be slotted into any infusion slot.
    • Utility infusions have been renamed enrichments in order to make them distinct from the other infusions.
  • All ascended amulets now have a single enrichment slot.
  • All other pieces of ascended equipment now have a number of infusion slots equal to the combined total of offensive, defensive, and agony slots they had previously.

Raids[edit]

  • Added a new chat command to assist squads in conceding defeat faster. The command instantly applies your currently equipped finisher to yourself. It can only be used in raids.
    • English: /surrender /concede /forfeit /resign
    • Spanish: /rendirse /renunciar /capitular
    • German: /kapitulieren /resignieren /ergeben /aufgeben
    • French: /capituler /abandonner /renoncer /concéder

Structured Plaver VS. Player[edit]

New Conquest Map: Revenge of the Capricorn[edit]

The Capricorn returns! And this time it's out for vengeance! Join your teammates to protect the town from the ship's onslaught while simultaneously defending your territory from the enemy team.

Queue Outside the Heart of the Mists[edit]

  • Players can now queue from maps other than Heart of the Mists.
  • Changing maps will remove players from the queue to prevent them from acquiring dishonor during loading screens.

Team Party Rollover[edit]

  • At the end of Ranked and Unranked Arena matches, there is a period of time during which players can opt in to joining a party with the rest of their team.

Guilds[edit]

Anthems[edit]

A new guild upgrade is being added to the tavern building called Guild Anthems. Upon purchase, Natasha Foxsong will arrive in the guild hall and offer guild members with the new rank permission Change Guild Anthem the ability to select 1 of 15 unique songs as their guild's new anthem. Your guild's selected anthem will then play through the music channel of your audio options whenever guild members complete certain actions.

  • Successfully completing guild missions will play your guild anthem for any member representing the guild.
  • Winning a Ranked or Unranked Arena match as a guild team in PvP will play your guild anthem for all members in the guild team.
  • Successfully claiming a camp, tower, keep, or castle for your guild in WvW will play the guild anthem for any guild members near that objective when it is claimed.
  • Successfully defeating a world boss summoned with a guild world event consumable will play your guild anthem for anyone on the map, even if they're not in your guild.
  • Planting a Guild Heroes Banner will play your guild anthem for any guild member on the map.

Monuments[edit]

A new guild upgrade is being introduced called Guild Hall Monument Decorations that will be available from the Guild Market once your guild has obtained the Guild Hall Decorations Merchant 2 upgrade. Upon purchase, Douglas Bird (our resident basic-decorations vendor) and Cullen (our master scribe) will have three new decorations unlock.

These three new decorations are monuments—decorations that have a custom player inscription. When placing a monument, you'll be prompted to enter the inscription, which can be up to 140 characters in length. Once placed, the inscription can be read by interacting with the monument. To change an inscription, the monument must be removed and replaced.
