Feedback 2020/11/21[edit]

On the 'special page' for promotion, it lists 6 Vicious Claws in the recipe. I don't think that's correct, and throws off the cost of promotion. --Inculpatus cedo (talk) 02:00, 22 November 2020 (UTC)

Promotion recipes in Mystic Forge requires 1 of the material in the base of the recipe so you could get more of the material. That is why its showing always 1 more. --DiegoDeLaHouska (talk) 03:53, 22 November 2020 (UTC)

Yes ? If you will take a look on totem and any other T6 promotion recipe in their basic components you will see that every single one of them has it this way. You cant promote it from nothing. --DiegoDeLaHouska (talk) 09:24, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
The visibility of this problem started with this discussion where we decided to add the Show base ingredients link also in promotion recipes. However, the actual problem lies in the template code. Namely, the template defines the recipe output quantity as wanted quantity (here, the wanted quanity of the recipe is 5-12 where internally it assumes the lower bound 5, so the wanted quantity of the T5 material is set to 5), then it checks if any recipe crafts this item and adds their ingredients to the wanted quantity (here, wanted quantity of the T5 material is increased by 1 to 6 using the promotion recipe). In other words, the template code doesn't differentiate between output quantity and wanted ingredients quantity (hence, allowing the template code to be very straight forward and minimal as possible). Thus, for recipes where the output item doesn't appear in the recipe ingredients again, everything is fine. But, as you found out, the problem appears when the output item appears again in the ingredients. Unfortuntately I haven't found a somehow acceptable and understandable fix to this problem yet. --Tolkyria (talk) 10:19, 22 November 2020 (UTC)

I always tried to fix the problem at the base level of the base ingredient templates and hence run into several problems while now I actually applied the fix at the top level, see this edit.
Try Show base ingredients again! However, if you find out that this template edit breaks anything else, please report it immediately or revert this template edit. --Tolkyria (talk) 15:29, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
