I hope they bring Apply Poison back so I can pair it with Burning Arrow for MASSIVE DEGEN ~ Bow 09:17, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

Apply Posion+Fire wall+Volley=Ouch.--NeilUser Neil2250 sig icon5 Anti.png 13:04, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
Except, you know, Volley canceled your preparation in GW1.... EiveTalk 14:37, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
I think he meant Spread Shot. --Naoroji User Naoroji Golem - Green.jpg 15:02, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
And I assume he also meant Bonfire instead of Fire Wall? EiveTalk 15:08, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
Well, Fire Wall has the same effect, but you can't do it solo. Venom20 [User_talk:Venom20] 15:10, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

Its removed from the main site. Can we now assume it is gone forever? --173.66.203.20 02:10, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

Dunno if it's still a ranger skill type, but Apply Poison was shown being used by a thief in one of the narrated videos and was described as a preparation. (PAX east maybe? I don't remember.) --ஸ Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig2.png 04:35, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

Preparation is not a Ranger specific skill type.[edit]

The Thief's Apply Poison works the same way except for the condition it deals. The referenced article only says that Preparations are coming back, not that they're exclusive to the Ranger profession. --Messenger 16:45, 30 October 2011 (UTC)

By the current definition, anything that applies a boon or any kind of bonus to its caster is a preparation.
From the reference: "...preparations, which are utility skills that can cause their arrows to have additional effects."
That quote seems to indicate exclusively arrows, but I suspect (read: not fact/no source) that all "martial attacks" will benefit from preparations. Aqua (T|C) 16:48, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
That still doesn't make Preparations a Ranger-only skill type, which is my point. --Messenger 17:02, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
Furthermore, consider the Thief trait Potent Preparations. On one hand, it doesn't do anything to Apply Poison. On the other, it would be odd for ANet to use the term "Preparation" in a profession which doesn't have that skill type. --Messenger 17:17, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
There is no source for Sharpening Stone being a preparation (and I have just asked the person who added it what their source was).
Just because Potent Preparations is the name of a trait means absolutely nothing; the modified skill in question is Choking Gas, which is an attack that applies poison by itself, not through a preparation, and the effect of the trait is to increase poison duration, which again, has nothing to do with preparations. Aqua (T|C) 17:22, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
Thus lacking explicit info that Sharpening Stone is a preparation, does this mean we're going to remove it from this page's list until we can directly verify which skills are preparations? --Messenger 07:57, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
Yep. Aqua (T|C) 20:53, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
Check this out, Aqua. It's not "official" where it's Team Quitter calling them preparations- unless ANet told them explicitly that both Sharpening Stone and Apply Poison are indeed preparations. Still, if so, preps are not Ranger-exclusive. --Messenger 14:25, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
While I may agree that in the future we can consider preparations to be of several professions. For the time being the information we have directs us to understand that they are currently ranger exclusive types. Venom20 User Venom20-icon-0602-sm-black.png 06:35, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

possible bug[edit]

apparently, if you activate preparations mid-air they fail to trigger
