Thoughts & Discussions[edit]

I'm excited to see how squads work in WvW, it seems very similar to the smaller parties you had in Alliance Battles in GW1, although it limits all the crazy drawing and endless pinging. I approve :) What I am curious to see is how squads will play out in PvE with dynamic events and the like. Should be interesting... The official Guild Wars 2 Wiki is not a forum. If an actual discussion starts here, it will be moved to your user talk page. - Infinite - talk 06:22, 6 April 2012 (UTC)
The concept is interesting, but since anyone can be a Commander it'll end up causing more problems than it's worth. I randomly PvP and it's hard to find people who are of stable mind to actually give instructions and lead a team. 118.92.251.221 21:46, 8 April 2012 (UTC)

Wait, so can commanders really place waypoints? Like the waypoints that allow you to map travel? Or does the page mean waypoint as in a marker on the map for players to see? 71.193.142.170 03:37, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

Waypoint as a marker. And BTW the book to learn Commandership (lol does that word exist?) costs 100 Gold coins. So not "anyone" can be a commander. Well at the start... Howell Qagan 18:59, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

The commander manual has some issues. I received the Commander title on 09/07/12 from our guild LEGION on Jade Quarry. There is literally no interface. If people join your squad by clicking on your icon they can see attack targets, defensive targets and meeting points. The problem I see is there is no interface to see who is in your squad. There needs to be a interface! And no, you cannot jump to waypoints.

The commander can use the command /squadinfo to see who is in his squad. 66.162.136.17 17:25, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

PvE Commander[edit]

Can squads see each other on the map, similar to how a party can currently? Worth noting one way or another. 99.188.144.86 20:17, 14 September 2012 (UTC)

nope. 1.172.172.125 14:25, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

Maximum Number[edit]

Can someone confirm that? Because I'm sure in my guild I have more than 30 people, yet they can still all join the same squad =\ The preceding unsigned comment was added by Willy sunny (talkcontribs).

Hide Commanders[edit]

Sorry if I make a mess here but it's important to me. I really want a way to hide all commanders from my maps. The blue diamonds running around my compass map are very distracting. I am by nature not someone to join a mob , and I can't see my self ever being in a squad. I could see breaking a party into 2 or 3 sub parties but I still won't need to see random commanders running around the world.166.137.88.143 20:24, 5 October 2012 (UTC)

Showing the Party[edit]

When in a squad, does the map show the locations of other squad members? -- Magic User Magic Icon.jpg Talk 07:26, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

I got commander yesterday and I could not see the people from my squad as you can see people from your party. Squad was small though and it could be that every member was in my party so it would overlap or something. Deratrius Dazurban 12:27, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

Squad Invite[edit]

Either it's a bug or the information on the page is wrong but as a commander I did not have the option to "Invite to Squad" when I right-clicked on a player. Players could click on my name to join my squad though. Deratrius Dazurban 12:34, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

Also found this misleading. There doesn't appear to be a way to invite people to join a squad. If no one objects within a week, I'll remove the relevant info as erroneous. 218.250.63.189 11:48, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Creating a squad/toggling the commander[edit]

I recently bought the commander title and looked everywhere on information on how to actually show it. None of the wiki pages about commanders or squads give this info.

I figured it out though. I've never edited a wiki though so I'm hesitant to edit the pages directly.

To make a squad, go to the party dropdown button on the upper left corner of the screen. (this can be moved though) Click "create" under the squad section. You now show the commander shield icon on the map and have the squad capabilities.

The pages talk about a "toggle" but there is no toggle. You either make a squad or you disband it. You can't turn the shield icon on or off. Talk of the "toggle" confused me for an hour or so because I kept looking for that elusive toggle. "Toggle" may be better used with "Toggle the existence of the squad". Commander redirect[edit]

I for one think that we should move Commander_(effect) to just Commander and then move the commander section on this page to the new commander page. and have squad have its own page. because the commander info on this page has little to do with a squad. if no one is in opposition, and if i remember to do it, ill change it to this in a week.- User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 10:06, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

You mean if anyone agrees, which I don't. The commander and squad are one and the same, you end spreading the same information across two separate articles. Commander_(effect) is an effect, so you wouldn't actually move it anyways.--Relyk Christmas sig.jpg talk 12:30, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
"The commander and squad are one and the same" whut? The commander is a single character, the squad is everyone else. They are not the same. Players looking to join a squad don't need to know about the commander's tools. I agree with Zesbeer's split. The effect page is pretty pointless and should be merged with the new commander page. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 15:01, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
Wut Dr Ishmael said. also I mean if no one is in opposition, ie if no one disagrees. why would I care if people agree with the change? I would do it any way if people agreed with me, logic fail there Relyk- User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 22:49, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
