Talk:Gravity Well

Does this apply the knockdown, float, and pull on every pulse, or does it choose one effect randomly like Chaos Storm? (Presumably distinction that would affect the total Defiance Bar damage?) Does the float apply when you're not in water? --Felbryn (talk) 16:36, 17 June 2016 (UTC)

First pulse knocks down. Second pulse floats. Third pulse pulls everyone to the center. --Gimmethegepgun (talk) 16:39, 17 June 2016 (UTC)

Trivia[edit]

At the moment we have the Trivia note "In black holes, the event horizon is the point at which escape from the black hole's gravity well becomes impossible."

Ok, so... why? If the idea is to talk about real life gravity wells, there are much better ways to explain about it. Such as something along the lines of: "In astrophysics, the term Gravity Well refers to the gravitational pull a body exerts in space." Why exactly are we talking about black holes and event horizons? This has nothing to do with the skill name (directly) at all? -Darqam (talk) 03:40, 30 September 2016 (UTC)

Maybe they thought the skill was sort of like a black hole in that it pulls you in...? But then we have Black Hole. I agree with your changes. --BryghtShadow (talk) 05:51, 30 September 2016 (UTC)
The term "event horizon" is used in the skill's description. I suppose someone thought that the meaning of "gravity well" was common knowledge but that the meaning of "event horizon" was not. --Felbryn (talk) 06:35, 30 September 2016 (UTC)
I don't know how I missed that wording there. Well, in which case maybe just adding the trivia I mentioned above? It could not be worth it given the link to gravity wells in that sentence. -Darqam (talk) 13:22, 30 September 2016 (UTC)
Hi there! I actually just reworded it that way yesterday from its former wording (Event horizon, in a black hole, is the point where the known laws of physics can no longer be applied.) because I felt the former wording sort of stretched just out of relevance. I agree that the reference to event horizons might seem out of left field at first because it's just kind of buried there in the skill description, although I think the fact that it adds an "escape is now impossible" feeling to the skill description is neat. Also, yes, I added the link to the wiki page for gravity wells since I figured it could be considered relevant to the page. However, if you want to make a separate trivia point about gravity wells (since that is the skill name after all) I, personally, wouldn't see a problem with it. 76.26.67.163 21:52, 30 September 2016 (UTC)
