Renown Hearts Award Karma[edit]

So, if you've gotten 100% map completion already, you get to eat kittens, apparently. Whilst kittening yourself.

Or just spend another few hundred hours doing it on a different character.

Update Size[edit]

The size of the update seems to be 1.172 MB, saw a few people on the official forum ask for it. Darkshadow 21:32, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

(For non-Europeans, that means 1,172 MB.) pling User Pling sig.png 21:40, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
Remember that the size may vary from installation to installation, even if both used -image all the time. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 21:47, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
Regardless of individual systems, I'm pretty sure this update is going to be > 1 GB for everyone. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 21:49, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, there's minimums, of course. But what's downloaded and the final size of the gw2.dat may be way over that. It's basically a virtual drive as it sometimes allocates space to put more files, and what's allocated isn't always the same. I've met some people that got quite paranoid about the download and gw2.dat sizes, so I try to make clear as often as possible that it's not a problem if you got a size way bigger or smaller than in another computer or from a friend's. That's why I also discourage adding sizes to Guild Wars Wiki notes. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 21:59, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
Added the info on the page some minutes before this discussion started. I wrote the wrong unit (Mio and Gio instead of MiB and GiB), some vandal deleted the whole info instead of correcting. I put it back again, feel free to correct if the numbers are not exactly the same for everyone. Eowin 23:13, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
Not a vandal (or a "stupid guy"), just someone who didn't know what the unit was. pling User Pling sig.png 23:18, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
Just to be clear, the 1172mb is what i saw was downloaded, i didn't verify the size of the .dat file or anything like that, i simply watched the downloader and saw the number when it finished, that's why i wrote "1.172 Mb" cause that's what it said, i'm sorry if i caused any confusion. :( Darkshadow 23:29, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
And that's what Mith is saying above, the exact size downloaded (as well as the change in the .dat file size) will differ from system to system. That's why we discourage any listing of exact numbers, because the people who are paranoid about things like this will only get more paranoid when their numbers are different. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 23:54, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
I see, didn't realize that >.< Darkshadow 00:13, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
For me the update was only 932 Mo ! TulipVorlax 00:33, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
Unless my launcher's progress bar is trolling me, I'm looking at a download of 12-15GB. 4% complete at 516MB. I actually have to wonder if it's trying to redownload the entire client. I'm hoping it's just calculating based on the number of files remaining and not the amount of data remaining. Felix Omni Signature.png 00:49, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
Good news, it's number of files. Felix Omni Signature.png 01:06, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

See? Some get less than 1Gb, some over that, some get a number of files, some get a different number because they download files they didn't download before... It's way better to avoid these numbers altogether. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 01:39, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

The number of files is displayed at the far right of the progress bar, the size in mb/mo (i made a mistake earlier maybe because my first language is french i always forget it's not the same in english) is displayed right next to the percentage at the left side. 02:58, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
I'll just add in a comment, what's driving some people's need to know about download sizes is not "paranoia" as has been implied, just rather some countries still impose monthly download limits &/or have slow download rates (at least at a price for those on low budgets), so are driven by the desire to manage their download quotas to the best way possible. Knowing an update is going to be somewhere like "> 1GB" like in this case, is handy to know because can then plan ahead to do download during off-peak time or might need to consider downloading 1gb+ will take several hours, so can start well in advance of when going to sit down to play). Yes, quoting a precise number would be unhelpful (trigger too many "why did my client not download exactly that number" type topics, but if there is a 'near enough' estimate can be given for these big updates, that is helpful. --Wolfie User Wolfie sig.jpg (talk|contribs) 03:23, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
In that case, I can support listing a rough estimate of download size for large updates only, which I'd probably define as 500+ MB. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 04:27, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
They do call them game releases for a reason... for the less attentive, 500+ is a good lower limit for notable.--Relyk ~ talk > 09:49, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
I think my game client might be downloading most of the game! Currently, it is sat at 8% complete, with 5,200 files remaining, having downloaded 603MB of data. I only played two days ago! I guess it's probably downloading data for areas I have yet to explore. My bad for not -image'ing it! :-| Ibiris 08:19, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
Scrub that! It would appear that the progress bar percentage is generated from the amount of files downloaded/remaining, rather than amount of data. Ibiris 08:22, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
Another user said the exact same thing a few comments above. Do people not read these days? —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 15:12, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
Generally not. Most people skip extensive conversations whithout reading a large % of what was said. I do it all the time. Haha! I read most slabs actually, at least skimming for key words. Puk 07:56, 21 February 2013 (UTC)

Undocumented Changes[edit]

The condition caused by underwater mesmer has been changed. Whalers now cause confusion rather than bleeding and clones bleeding rather than confusion. 23:47, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

Jump timing may have been changed again? my Charr seems much more heavy\sluggish in various JP Joironfist 01:30, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

How about documenting more exactly the fixed bugs in FOTM? I have here e.g. wheel in the dredge fractal does not work, champion cannot be pulled out of the door... -- 02:34, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

Two more undocumented changes: Weapon models no longer scale with the size of your character, so a greatsword looks actually big on Asuras. The elementalist skill Magnetic Grasp was also changed, it is two-staged now. 21:10, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

Loot while dead[edit]

afaik there was no loot when you were fully dead. does someone can confirm this?-- 02:33, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

Orrian Risen[edit]

The Risen in Orr have become huge. What was once the size of normal humans are now norn size. Anyone know if this is intentional or a bug? Konig/talk 03:29, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

Well, the update notes do state "Various Risen creatures have had their animations and size updated", so would guess some of the risen were norn, and so now appear correctly sized. --Wolfie User Wolfie sig.jpg (talk|contribs) 03:33, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
The thing is, all human risen in Orr are norn-sized now. It's almost like Orr was a nation of norn, not a nation of humans, now. But yeah, I just saw that update note so it's intentional - even though it doesn't really make much sense. I guess it'll just be weaved as "magic did it." Konig/talk 03:40, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
Frost and Fire and Giant Risen--Relyk ~ talk > 04:18, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Ahh ok, that def can't be correct since Orr was, as you probably know, a human Kingdom (of the known three, Ascalon and Kryta being the other two). So while can accept that Zhaitan is raising the dead sourced from all over the place, its stated most are coming from the dead of Orr, so the majority should be human, thus human sized. What you've described sound more like either an unintended consequence of a change or yeah, the elder dragon is "super sizing" his minions (now there's a comforting thought) :D --Wolfie User Wolfie sig.jpg (talk|contribs) 04:19, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
They are risen, not human. There's no particular reason they should be the exact same size as they were when dead. Think Mr Hyde vs Dr Jekyl, or Hulk vs Doc Banner. 06:32, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
And remember that in the past there was rare cases of norn-sized humans like Turai Ossa (before becoming a ghost), Palawa Joko (before becoming a lich) and Shiro (before becoming a demon). Some some could be particularly big, and that could still be considered normal. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 12:54, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

Messing with the daily list[edit]

Let me be the first to say, not a big fan of the *improved* daily list of things to do in PvE. Could care less about showing the daily progress on the main screen, it is just so hard to press H to find out, but the rest of it, it was fine the way it was. Anet, why did you feel the need to *improve* something that was working perfectly fine? (I mean the change to the requirements, for those who aren't getting my drift.) 04:44, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

On my part, what i dont like about it is that it always auto hide itself for no apparent reason. They need to add a pindown icon or something. TulipVorlax 06:56, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
Also hate it, hope they change it back. The old list was easy to do if you did not have a great deal of time, you could do the daily stuff in 30-45 min, fantastic. The new ones [doges, rez'ing people] are a hassle. easy to avoid damage, but to make it to count as a "dodge" was annoying and time consuming; I am sure not that bad for most though]. Far worse was the doing nothing, waiting for npc's to die so you can rez them. That was slow and a pain. 07:27, 29 January 2013 (UTC)D
I don't mind it, but they need an option to hide it. I have enough problems with not being able to customize the UI already.--Relyk ~ talk > 09:53, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
Now one has to travel more and know more about the world to get them done. For example, for dodges it's way easier with enemies that have long and slow attacks, like a giant, or most ettin charging attacks. I got mine dodging 3 times during an event against the inquest, by dodging MK II barrages as you'll Evade each projectile, and that gives you 2-5 Evades per dodge. My only gripe with the system is that is has no choice. I heard that there would be several different daily achievements to choose from, and you could skip the ones you liked the least. But for now it's 5/5, and it seems that if that'll ever happen, it'll be in "a future update". MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 12:41, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
That's exactly what they said here - "In the future, we’ll be adding support to allow you to complete your dailies by finishing a subset from a larger list. We want to give you the freedom to play the content that interests you."Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 14:43, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
They should have left it alone until they were able to do that then. Just logged in today, and found that on the daily event list, you now need to craft items as one of the requirements. I don't mind crafting stuff, but why force it on someone if they want to complete the daily event list? This particular adjustment, to me, makes no sense, and is a detriment instead of a help. I don't mind some of the things, and being a rotating list (and I use this term VERY losely) CAN be argued as a good thing, although I can't see it as a good thing either. For the record, I am also not a fan of requiring people to go to the PvP areas to get 100% completion on the map. 00:15, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

Waypoints and Dungeons[edit]

Not sure if this is an issue or not since I hardly ever go in them, but was reading about the dungeons and was wondering something.

Dungeons - Polished dungeons and removed the ability to use waypoints while any player is in combat.

What about when someone gets killed, does that mean now you have to wait for someone to rez you or wait until all players are out of combat before you can use a waypoint? 05:17, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

That's exactly what it means. They wanted to remove "res-rushing" as described here. No more using the waypoint to jump back into a prolonged boss battle. --Thervold 06:09, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
This change without any change to GL just killed 90% of Arah exp PUG runs...-- 13:37, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
You can still : log out, select the same character, rez via a waypoint outside the dungeon, enter the dungeon, and run back to the fight from the entrance. Vezz 14:07, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
So that means that if you are unfortunate enough to get killed, then the rest of the group is possibly weaker, and makes it that much harder to fight> So, in addition to being one player (or more) down, you cannot devote full attention to either fighting or getting the downed player back up. I find it hard to see this as a good thing. 00:18, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
It means: try harder not to get killed. If you do, your group should either work out how to get you on your feet again or withdraw from combat, to allow you to reset from a checkpoint. The first option is better when you are winning a fight, the second when you are having trouble. 01:57, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

Runes automatically soulbound now??[edit]

been playing on the new patch, farming some dungeons, and i got 3 rune drops. automatically soulbound, 2 major 1 superior. bug or hidden intention? did not read anything about it through the notes (ctrl+f) 07:08, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

also, couldnt sell on bltp obviously and you could still buy ones previously put up 07:09, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
some runes found in dungeons have always been soulbound, including the ones you can get from the relevant dungeon vendor. Check rune, which I think lists all the known soulbound varieties. Since the patch, I've salvaged armor and sold the resulting runes, so I don't think anything has changed. If you still think something has, please list the specific runes so others can compare. 07:28, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
