Talk:Elite skill

I wonder how the elite skills are going to differ from guild wars 1. It seams unlikely that any elite skill would be limited to 1 attribute like it was in Guild Wars 1 because of the dedicated elite slot and the first 5 skills being interchangeable. But I could very well be wrong. I would certainty like to know how there going to work to benefit you and your allies.--Yozuk 02:22, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

Obtaining[edit]

My biggest question regarding the Elite skills is if there would be any difference in obtaining them? I guess not - the previous system with Elite books and SoC's was very good. --User Karasu sig.png Karasu (talk) 17:47, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

Do we know anything about obtaining them yet? - Michiel412 09:23, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

How many Elite Skills pr profession?[edit]

Do we have any information regarding the amount of elite skills pr profession? One - two pr profession seems a little limited, and highly unlikely Goatzilla 20:43, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

I don't know anything about the amount, but for some reason that I do not know, I think it will be less than in GW1 - Michiel412 21:01, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
Easily less than GW1, but enough to make it interesting and unpredictable. Not to mention the racial elites available. --ஸ Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig2.png 21:24, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
Agreed. Most of the elite skills in GW hardly ever get used except in very special situations. Generally there's something that does something similar but better. I'm sure they will have enough elites to suit the different styles of play available to each profession but not enough to approach redundancy or cause one to be useless next to another one. "Every profession will have about 20 utility skills in addition to the racial ones. There are 4-5 heals and 4-8 elites per profession." [1] User Noxx Sig.png 22:00, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
Gracias. Lysander 22:03, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
Awesome, thanks man! I guess the elites will slowly unlock from lvl 30 til lvl 80 Goatzilla 12:52, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
Hope they give Rangers a few better ones, whats here leaves much to be disired.--Will Greyhawk 11:18, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
I liked the Spirit of Nature when paired with the Spirits Unbound trait but it didn't provide much that you can't make your pet also do. I suppose it'd be good for a support character during large battles. 24.13.43.231 19:41, 8 May 2012 (UTC)

Usage in PvP?[edit]

Is it correct to infer that elite skills are usable only in PvE and never in PvP? If that is the case, it should probably be spelled out more specifically in the article. --Gentlecow 21:45, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

No, non-racial elite skills are always unlocked and usable in sPvP. I'm not sure where you got that idea from. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 21:54, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
You are right. I meant to say "racial elite skills". There's no mention of this descrepancy in the article. --Gentlecow 19:00, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
I added that information to Racial skills. Gnarf 19:10, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
Does it not also apply to WvW? --Gentlecow 19:57, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
Nope. Gnarf 20:01, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
Okay. Just to be completely clear here, because I am slow, this means that you can use racial elite skills in WvW? But not in sPvP? --Gentlecow 20:03, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
Yes. To be more precise, it doesn't only apply to racial elite skills. Racial skills in general can be used everywhere but in sPvP. Gnarf 20:06, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for the clarifications. As you can see, I have added the information to the article. --Gentlecow 20:17, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

Not that Elite?[edit]

Is it just me or are the Elite skills not THAT Elite? I remember in an interview prior to the release of GW2 there was a statement something along the lines of "Elite skills are designed to be game changers". Well all the ones I have used so far are not! They have far too much recharge to be of any use and don't do that much damage compared to normal skills to warrant such a long recharge time. Either increase the damage of these skills or decrease the recharge to make them more useful! The preceding unsigned comment was added by 90.214.248.101 (talkcontribs).

There are a few gems, but for the most part yes, elite skills do not have much of an impact on gameplay. We could see that change with the upcoming pvp/pve splits though. Felix Omni Signature.png 01:20, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
In comparison to GW1 elites, they are, and I think it was for the sake of that comparison that such exaggerated comment was said. I find pretty much all elites worthwhile, in the right situation, but if you're looking for a universal (elite) skill, I don't know if there is one in GW2. Mediggo 07:56, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

Superior Rune of Leadership is missing from the 'on elite activation' list of runes --72.188.29.122 00:13, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

Added, thanks. —Ventriloquist 08:40, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

Renegade section is broken, not sure what is wrong but the mark-up looks good in theory and fails in application. --Ay (talk) 00:14, 27 March 2020 (UTC)

Gave the relevant pages a good kick (i.e. refresh). Should be working now. Thanks for pointing that out! Greener (talk) 00:19, 27 March 2020 (UTC)
