Feedback 2015/12/20[edit]

Has it changed that the Ascended Rings can produce Ball of Dark Energy? Not sure this is true, and a lot of related Wiki articles do not show this change, if it has really happened. --Dr.MORO (talk) 21:21, 20 December 2015 (UTC)

I hadn't heard about any change. Nor was there anything in the game updates, as far as I can remember. Hekela (talk) 21:24, 20 December 2015 (UTC)
I have just salvaged by ascended ring that dropped in the fractal and I didn't get any ball of dark energy. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tonny (talk) at 08:43, 25 December 2015 (UTC).
As I said in the original feedback, I salvaged 4 rings and from one of them I got a ball of dark energy. I did not say it would happen every time, and it probably is very rare. If it occurs again, I will take a screenshot. Separ (talk) 02:45, 27 December 2015 (UTC)

I have a friend and myself who have done the ascended aqua breather, and she got it and I didn't

Salvaged from Rings?[edit]

An unknown ip address has now added rings as a salvage possibility. Is this another confirmed occurrence or just someones guess? Hekela (talk) 05:39, 27 January 2016 (UTC)

I'm about 30 rings down, and nada. User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 20:00, 22 March 2016 (UTC)
I'm 70+ rings with nothing. Hekela (talk) 21:08, 22 March 2016 (UTC)
Some trinkets can be easily mistaken for rings. I suspect it was a mistake. E.g. Quetzal Crest.pngQuetzal Crest The Queen's Necklace.pngMordrem Loop and Caithe's Blossom.pngCaithe's Blossom. User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 21:57, 22 March 2016 (UTC)
Old comment I know. Ball of Dark Energy/Salvage Rate has a single ball from a ring - could be a mistake or legitimate. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 21:41, 14 November 2016 (UTC)

Cost of acquisition[edit]

Trying to think of the most cost-effective way to obtain this, assuming NOT getting stupid lucky drops from fractals.
Weapons are cheaper to craft than armor, and some weapons are cheaper than others. Currently Steel is cheaper than Wood, and the weapons that take the least ascended mats (only 4, plus dowel for another 3 steel and 3 wood) are:
Warhorn, Torch, Shield, Trident - of these, shield uses only Steel, and is thus the cheapest to make (but not the fastest, if you're crafting your own daily mats).
Dowels go for about 40g right now, and steel is 7g (buy), rabid (Glizzlemouth's) inscription is the cheapest at just over 1g, so the bulk of the cost comes out to be roughly 70g, plus miscellaneous common and account-bound materials.
If considering a piece of armor, we're looking at 5 damask, 1 steel, 3 leather (Ferratus's Visor), or around-ish 93g plus misc other stuff.

I came to the same conclusion, which is why I made two shields for the 2 Dark Energy needed for the legendary backpack stuff. Hekela (talk) 22:29, 22 March 2016 (UTC)

Lava Skull Backpack Not Guaranteed?[edit]

I wanted to post because I read here and on the Lava Skull Backpack page that using an Ascended Salvage Tool on a Lava Skull Backpack was a guaranteed Ball of Dark Energy. However when I did so yesterday, all I got in return was some Unbound Magic and six +1 Agony Infusions. Fortunately I have ~550 spare Petrified Wood after doing this but I wouldn't want anyone else to consume their wood like I did believing it was a guaranteed drop since it definitely felt like a waste of P-wood. I've updated the page to show you can get zero or one. Sorry that this didn't work out for you. G R E E N E R 09:55, 14 February 2017 (UTC)

Is there no other way to acquire the Ball of Dark Energy than to salvage an Ascended item?![edit]

Who would do this unless they received an ascended item as a drop and have no intention of using it? Why would this item be limited to that in the light of a player creating a Legendary weapon. If they have no other ascended weapon or armor to salvage than the ascended version of the Legendary they are trying to create, which they will need to craft the Legendary... how the hell are they supposed to create the Legendary?

Needing to salvage stuff isn't a big issue[edit]

(Response mostly to the previous, anonymous query.)

It's actually likely to be pretty much self-sustaining once most people get going, if they're careful. The only people likely to have an issue are those who want to skip straight past ascended gear and craft lege's immediately.

Like, I assume, at lot of people, I crafted appropriate ascended armor and weapons for my mains long before I started working on replacing them with lege's. I made sure I had everything else in place before I started the actual lege crafting. In an absolute worst case, had I had NO spare ascended stuff to salvage for Ball of Dark Energy, I could have unequipped the piece corresponding to the lege I was crafting, salvaged it, crafted the lege using the Ball I got, and equipped the lege back into the slot. Downtime minimal.

In practice, firstly I've had quite a few chests of ascended armor/weapons drop along the way - and secondly, since the armory, it's a bit of a snowball anyway. Several of my characters had ascended gear for alternate specs, which seems likely to be the case for many people, so replacing a single piece of armor (say) gave me multiple items from that character alone to salvage for Balls - more if I had anyone else with ascended stuff at the same weight). And even if that's 's not the case - you only need a single piece to kick you off, because every ascended weapon or piece of armor you replace with your spanking new lege is another Ball waiting to be salvaged. Just plan what you craft a little to optimise things. The synergy basically escalates once you get the Balls rolling (so to speak). Doghouse13 (talk) 11:34, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
