King Jadon was the King of Kryta prior to the White Mantle's rule and the father of Queen Salma.

Biography[edit]

At some point, Jadon married and had children, along with having multiple affairs resulting in illegitimate children, whom he reportedly cared for despite their lack of noble status. One of these affairs was Priestess Berea within the Temple of the Ages, who at some point became pregnant with Jadon's child. After the child was born, Berea named her Salma, and Jadon granted the two a dispensation from the royal treasury. Berea told Salma that Jadon was her father, and as she grew up and became a priestess herself, she received the king's kindness.[1]

In 1070 AE, on a humid evening, a White Mantle emissary arrived with three hidden mursaat to meet with Jadon. Upon the arrival of an Ascalonian mesmer, Duchess Adelaide Barradin, who was in possession of the Veil of Ilya, an Orrian relic stolen during the early Third Guild War, she revealed the mursaat's presence, and the Unseen Ones attacked using powerful magic that slaughtered the king's guards and advisors in mere seconds. Following their deaths, the Duchess and her attaché cast feedback spells to counter the mursaat's fury, and led Jadon through secret passages in the palace to safety.[2]

After escaping the palace, the group chose to lay a trap for one of the mursaat to learn more about them, and successfully slew the Unseen One, though not without the death of one of Gauvain's students and grave injuries being dealt to the king after he tried to protect the young caster. Despite the group's attempts to carry the king to safety, he would die the following day.[3] Even following Salma retaking the throne of Kryta, the newly-formed Mesmer Collective, comprised of Adelaide and her allies, chose to remain silent about the death of Jadon,[4] and he became known as a coward who was thought to have either died or fled the nation to across the sea.[5]

Watchman Arad: I've found something! An entry in the scribe's journal notes that the king often visited one of the priestesses in the Temple of the Ages. Later, the woman gave birth to a daughter named Salma, who was granted special dispensation from the royal treasury. The king always did take good care of his children, legitimate or not. This woman could be exactly who we are looking for. She has ties to the true gods as well as royal blood! I'm certain that the people would follow her if only she would consent to take the throne. You can travel light and quickly, <Character name>. While I make preparations to mobilize the Lionguard, you could go speak with her. [..]
Salma: Yes, I know about my heritage. My father...the king, was always very kind to me. But when the Charr attacked, he abandoned my mother, and all of the people of Kryta, in their hour of need. Now you want me to take his place? How can I know if I'll have the strength to lead where he did not? It's a difficult thing you ask of me, and I am uncertain.... Still, if I am the only hope for the Krytan people, then I must trust in myself. Tell Watchman Arad that I will meet with him. I will do what must be done.

Watchman Arad: With the true nature of the White Mantle revealed, it is time to restore the Royal Family of Kryta to power. Unfortunately, the Royal Family was largely destroyed during the Charr invasions, and those who survived fled across the sea. The Royals, however, were known for their...er...indiscretions, and it is likely that there are a few with royal blood in their veins who still live in Kryta. I had arranged for papers from the royal scribe to be brought to me that I might examine them and find a legitimate successor to the throne, but the caravan I sent for was plundered by the Tengu in Stingray Strand and the chest containing the papers was carried off.
