Map Images[edit]

Hi, I noticed you reverted a couple of images for the Bringing Light to the Darkness achievement page. While we appreciate you uploading your screenshots, they have been replaced by images deemed better for documentation purposes. We prefer to keep maps to showcase locations instead of object shots with the UI active. It'd be great if you could stop reverting the images as such. Thank you for your understanding! Your image is contained in my mini-map. I remember doing those events and they had a worthless image like the one you keep putting in. Mine has your image in the mini-map plus info that will actually help people..... It'd be great if you could stop reverting the images as such. Thank you for your understanding..... Although your images show minimaps, they do not show the actual path to the braziers, which is really important to include as otherwise it is not clear how to get there. ~SimeUser Sime Maraca Choya.pngTalk 17:37, 22 April 2020 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) Generally, screenshots with the hud showing is undesired, and this goes triple for a chat log, as your images have (I am not sure, but I feel like having character names - especially of other players' - is against the wiki rules?). I would agree that an image showing the object would be necessary, if the object itself is hard to find (such as for the book collection, which are small and not labeled). But these are large objects which are labeled; simply getting to the area is sufficient, so a map is far more useful than an image of the object's scenery.
Your images may show the mini-map, but that mini-map gives zero context - you cannot see sector names, pathing, the map is small, etc. And given that both are in underground areas, players cannot compare the minimap in your images to their own map without first going to the location, which makes it a moot point to use the image. The images uploaded by Alex, on the other hand, include not only the location on the map, but a path to the underground (hidden from overworld) locations so that players know what route to take to get to the spot.
I'm not going to partake in any edit warring, but my two cents: the maps provided by Alex are better. Konig (talk) 17:40, 22 April 2020 (UTC)

Well when I actually did these events, there were maps like Alex's there. I found them worthless. They get you to the area, but the mini-map will also get you to the area along with the description given in the wiki. Getting to the area was not enough - that's why I changed what was there in the first place. Although these are large items, it was still difficult to find them. And there are other identifying things in the pic that helps in locating the item.

If I'm trying to be objectively critical without personal bias (difficult for everyone I know), your screenshot shows::
  1. The brazier - not particularly useful, we know what the Braziers look like
  2. The direction in the minimap - same as my version
  3. The surrounding area - its really obvious that its the cave with the mastery point in it. But your image does not tell me how to get into it.
  4. Chat log - not useful or relevant
That's it? Your image does not tell me how you got into the cave, which, imo is the hard bit. Finding the brazier in the cave is super duper easy.
How about if I labelled where the Raven Gate was on my older version of the map, would that help? -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:28, 23 April 2020 (UTC)

It's because of jackoffs like this, that I will never edit a wiki again. As I said, the images I put up will actually help people. The images that were there were of no help, that's why I changed them in the first place. But not to worry, i'll never suggest anything that will actually help somebody again.....
