Welcome to the wiki! :)--Icyyy Blue User IcyyyBlue Elementalist Blue.png 14:47, 29 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you. I'll try not to break anything. Redshift 00:37, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

Media Watch[edit]

My Noted Hoard: Let me know of any media that should be brought to my attention. I get distracted easily, so distract me. 14:51, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

Shy Robot Thoughts[edit]

Instead of maybe inadvertently breaking someone else's page, for now I'll just keep these little notes to myself:

  • Finding the right way to talk about verticality is surprisingly hard.
  • I went through the Tap-Repeatedly article (yes, the hyphen is correct) and did some sprucing for the appropriate parts. However, I'm not sure how spruced is rightly spruced--a lot of the info I thought wiki-relevant was there--and so am hesitant to alter its status on the Media Watch page. Also known as, I don't know if I left out more information that should be in, or if it really should just be left untouched.
  • Should creature pages be written in a singular approach or a plural approach? I was emulating other pages based on singular, but I see some have already been altered to plural. Protocol?
  • Uh, try not to mess anything up too badly... Redshift 00:37, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
  • I should not try to edit when I'm too tired to editzzzzzzz. I want cake. Redshift 03:11, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
Hullo. :) I was away when you added yourself to media watch project - so welcome to the project and seeing as your contribs start in late June to the wiki as well I suppose. :D I'm glad to have someone floating around trying to get things straight here and under-taking some major article changes.
To address your specific stuff: I didn't add the tap repeatedly article to media watch, but it seems most of the interesting stuff discusses the development and selection of the professions as a group which seems like a trivia line on profession. What I'll do is expand the trivia note on the professions page which already refers to the article and call out the additional development information there to someone interested in reading it.
As to single/plural on the creature pages, it hasn't been discussed before now. My personal preference is singular (at least I think that's what I've been doing :/ ) because I like the page title and the thing discussed to match up. However I might prefer plural if we're talking about a generic type of creature (Drake) instead of a specific kind of creature (River Drake, Salamander Drake). Do you have any thoughts on the matter?
And don't worry about messing things up - the worst that can happen is you start a months long discussion involving huge walls of talk page text - daunting but just the way the wiki works. ;) Plus you seem to be doing fine so far! -- aspectacle User Aspectacle.png 03:57, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
Hi there, and thank you. Trivia seems a good way to address it; there was a lot of interesting information in the Tap article but it seemed to hover in that sort of grey area. If you've looked at it then I figure it could just be moved to completed as someone also added in a lot of the information before my pass at it.
Wrt to singular/plural, as someone who just woke up my impromptu thoughts are that I actually might fall on plural to start the article. I agree that the text on categories of creatures should be plural, but with even specific types of creatures we would be documenting all of them, complete with shared abilities, and it seems that some names are also being reused. Additionally, since there are more singular/named creatures, it might be nice as a way to make those creatures more distinct. For example, I expect we'll run into a lot of Ascalonian ghosts, but there's only going to be one Vassar or one Necromancer Munne. Individual behavior and variations can certainly be addressed in additional text, but for me, perhaps somewhat incoherently, a plural 'kicker' sentence appeals. Then again, I did just wake up, and I could wake up again and think that it's bonkers. It could also just be too early to tell. I don't feel strongly either way--talking about 'a coconut crab' or 'coconut crabs' goes down fine with me, but it's still a bit of a curiosity and might be nice to have in order.
Much thanks for the feedback :) Redshift 07:24, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
The development stuff is interesting, but I agree it is a grey area for documentation here because it is meta information about the game.
Your reasons for the plural on the creature articles seems sound so if you'd rather use plurals in your edits from now on I'll do the same. I hope to fly though many of the creature articles soon when I upload my updated set of creature screenshots. I'm almost ready to go but *shakes fist* damn you Terraria for sucking up all my free time. :) -- aspectacle User Aspectacle.png 23:47, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
Right on. Sounds like an accord until directed otherwise. If you need any help from my limited wikibilities, give a shout. Redshift 00:02, 13 July 2011 (UTC)
  • Addressing addresses? Zones, areas, sites, locations? How to categorize those things being discovered? Redshift 07:24, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

Pirate[edit]

You, sir/madam/robot, are currently ascending my favorite person list rapidly. :)
The phrasing on that page is just... amazing. Made me smile. Aqua (T|C) 23:46, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

Hah, I'm pleased it brings you happiness. I'll try to keep on track, and I welcome advice and assistance. Redshift 00:02, 13 July 2011 (UTC)

Doodads needed[edit]

I am noticing that map/compass interface icons will be useful to have as more and more NPC pages arise. Looking specifically for spyglass (scout), book (skill trainer), waypoint (locked and unlocked), empty heart, filled heart, and the subset of event icons (skull, shield, mortar/pestle, starburst). Gotta catch 'em... sheesh, can't finish that. ;) Redshift 01:52, 13 July 2011 (UTC)

Yay, Aspectacle got that covered. Redshift 22:40, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

Urgh[edit]

Templates and tables. Desk. Head. At any rate, these are some fairly hefty reorgs I'm thinking of implementing regarding Areas/Locations/Scouts/Hearts, so anyone wants to look into my Sandbox and provide feedback, it'd be welcome food for thought. Redshift 22:40, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

Hullo. I think that the templates are pretty good. My main concern is the amount of some of the information might cause some problems. For Box 3 the info box lists events and hearts and resources. Perhaps there are only one or two events in a little area, and one or two resources of each type ... perhaps not. :) I like how you've added the monster groupings on Box 8 rather than individual monsters. My concern about Box 4 and Box 5 is the content seems so horribly duplicated that my inner programmer (who twitches whenever two lines look alike) weeps. Box 4 and Box 5 will probably get long enough that we might consider splitting different region listings on to different pages? Otherwise, I've got nothing much else to say - aside from expressing my anticipation for the huge new demo at gamescom. :D -- aspectacle User Aspectacle.png 22:23, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the assist :) I definitely understand the redundancy issue, and trust me, there were little tears (especially as I was entering all the data in...). However, I feel that for the sake of being thorough the information is better whole than left spare; it's just inevitable that the scout and heart pages overlap but the methodology was to try to identify what information was made accessible by each one. More elegant solutions would be ideal, but I'm erring on the side of completion, I guess :). Definitely agree with the splitting into different region listing pages. With regard to the amount of information, longer is ok, and we can tweak as we go along--my main concern is that I don't know enough about 'if' statements to make boxes not appear should an area, for example, not have any hearts. I'm waiting right there with ya :). Redshift 13:05, 3 August 2011 (UTC)
Hi there Mr. Robot! (Or whatever...you like, sir) I wholeheartedly appreciate your enthusiasm towards revamping all the wiki site, but would it be a little bit too early to...err, I guess... well nvm, I'm just happening to speak to myself. :< But anyway, neat work! (Indistinguishable mumbling...) User:Glastium Glastium | talk 17:03, 3 August 2011 (UTC)
Hoi there :). If I understand correctly, then yes, it's likely to all be very tentative at the moment. Nonetheless, hopefully it can't hurt to be ready! (That, and I like trying to organize things.) Xiexie ni shou kan wo de gongzuo. Redshift 17:08, 3 August 2011 (UTC)
That's incredible! A bilingual robot! But I think Google translate can alw----(signal cut) User:Glastium Glastium | talk 17:12, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

(Reset indent) So, why are you putting user templates into mainspace? Why not have templates in the mainspace (and hopefully the discussion as well) or make examples in your userspace? --JonTheMon 20:43, 4 August 2011 (UTC)

Honestly, because I'm not sure of the policy on creating templates in the mainspace. If it's ok to just go ahead, I'd be glad to do so. Redshift 20:47, 4 August 2011 (UTC)
Separately, if it'd be better to do mock-ups in my userspace, then I'd be glad to do so as well. Redshift 20:52, 4 August 2011 (UTC)
Generally, the process is: Proposal - Sandbox (userspace) - Tentative approval - mainspace examples - tweak - consensus - full implementation. --JonTheMon 20:57, 4 August 2011 (UTC)
Thankee; I'll work up some mockups then. Redshift 20:58, 4 August 2011 (UTC)
As far as I feel, the practical process is: Sandbox (userspace) - Tentative approval - 3-5ppl's Consensus(Which is generally the same thing as the former step) - Full Implementation - Reconsensus - Tweak - Re-reconsensus - Re-tweak... User:Glastium Glastium | talk 11:02, 6 August 2011 (UTC)

Not your typical -1 edit[edit]

That wasn't exactly what I expected from a -1 edit! My sleepy brain thanks you for the level of English fix, though. But now I am offline for real. :P - Infinite - talk 01:09, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

Hah, hope it helped. :) Get thee some sleepage! Redshift 01:22, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

Yay![edit]

Stupid me was going to go into every individual article and change the categories the long way. Wiki genius = you = amazing! Thanks :D --Xu Davella 13:04, 27 August 2011 (UTC)

Hah, I can't really take the credit; I had a whole slew of tabs before realizing that Alarielle had thoughtfully coded it into the template. I've tried to fix it up as I believe you were going to, but I'm sure how the process exactly goes (like for that talk page). At any rate, hope it shortened a couple of steps. :) Redshift 13:08, 27 August 2011 (UTC)

adding a photo,[edit]

i noticed that you took care of Chuck Jackman's page for the wiki and that you requested a photo if you were wondering how to add or where you get them you can just click on the blogs author and then just right click and save the image as and then upload it to the wiki thats what i do...-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 00:59, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi, and thanks for clearing that up. I'll try to have the gumption next time. :) Redshift 14:31, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

Can I get a sauce[edit]

on this? I'm asking in the hopes of finding another crafting video to extract information from, not because I doubt the validity of your edit. Aqua (T|C) 23:17, 24 December 2011 (UTC)

Painterly splashes[edit]

Was this what you had in mind at all? Or do I just keep shooting and missing. Aqua (T|C) 23:22, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

that is what i had in mind and i think that if we could get a few of those it would be perfect all the same color or different colors.-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 23:43, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
I can make them whatever color we want really... Aqua (T|C) 23:57, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
Now that I've spent entirely way too much time on it.... hi! In response to your question, well, not really. But you know what? Who cares? \o/ You've been putting a lot of work into it, and while those aren't the painterly effects I personally had in mind, I'm really stoked that someone's and someones are taking the time to make the wiki closer to the aesthetic of the game. And I like what you've come up with, really. (Now if wouldn't interfere with platform friendliness, would it be possible to stick filler graphics in the whitespace on either side? Like how it's done on the GW2 races page.) At the same time, I decided that I should try to put in a little effort of my own, so to be clearer--I was thinking about a splashmark that I had thought appears in game--it was more orange/fiery, and a little bit tighter and cleaner than the current red that you've used. I didn't know where to find it, so I made a fake one, resulting in my noobishness at uploading. But it is as follows:
User Redshift redsplash.png Which might be a little too graphic for text, but I figured I could at least provide a visual in return for your efforts. Cheers. Redshift 23:36, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
Hey, erm, as you obviously have a greater capacity in photo-editing than I probably ever will, would you mind making a splash design for the header? The primary color should be the same red, but I know that you have aesthetic taste to make it creative, fun and beautiful. Aqua (T|C) 23:47, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
Haha, shucks--it's really not that complex, Aqua, and I'm sure it's within your bounds. (Also, I'm kinda a noob at it, myself.) If I can grab the time I'd be willing to try, though. What are you referring to when you say 'header?' Are you talking about the 'Welcome to the Wiki' at the top of your demo page? Or something else? And more in the style of the Infiboxes we're using? Redshift 00:19, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
Pretty much the same splashy style, just 900 pixels long. (I know it's not too complex, but I'm currently experiencing the middle of junior year with all the fun and stress that comes with it.) Aqua (T|C) 01:37, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
And yeah, its the "Welcome to the wiki" bar. Aqua (T|C) 01:37, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
How's this: User Redshift 900HeaderEdit.png? I copied the infibox a couple of times and then tried to tweak it to mimic the 'style.' (I don't know if the infibox was a user original or ANet derived--I'm not sure how ANet image tag policy would apply here.) Hope it works? (Oh, and good luck with junior-dom. I don't know if you're in the States or where, but I don't envy juniors in either high school or college. Or seniors, for that matter.) Redshift 07:17, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
A 700x100 version of the header has been made out of text size/display constraints: User Redshift 700Header.png
In looking at it it's graphically a little less on the level with the other header backings (it's a little 'hairy'), but maybe it'll magically mesh somehow? Sigh, this is what I get for being such a dilettante. And now my talk page looks like it's been bathed in Halloween. Redshift 22:46, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

RfA Thoughts[edit]

...With the recent round of RfAs, I'm finding myself mostly silent. This is actually pretty much because I'm not sure I have anything to say: I honestly haven't had much in the way of observation or interaction with most of these individuals. This is as much a reflection of my own limited time here as it is with what I think is fairly-called a low-profile involvement of those nominated. A third note, and one meant purely as observation: a lot of the discussions really seem to rely on history that I haven't shared. This is perhaps just the nature of the beast. I don't think I'm the only one in this state, but that is purely speculation. All in all, this is just sort of my own way of chiming in on why I haven't said anything as of yet. Redshift 02:40, 5 April 2012 (UTC)

Perhaps these concerns are truly best described on the RfAs, because it is exactly the kind of input these RfAs are needing; this community's pure opinion, unacquainted with other wiki's history. - Infinite - talk 04:45, 5 April 2012 (UTC)
Definitely feel free to chime in. If you don't have anything to say about a particular candidate, but the process and impression as a whole, you might want to talk up on Guild Wars 2 Wiki talk:Requests for adminship --JonTheMon 04:49, 5 April 2012 (UTC)

Image[edit]

Redshift, you did right with catching that [[:File:Asura ranger by k atrina-d47ico8.jpg|image]]. It is a copy/save from deviantART, and unless permission is given, use of images from there is copyright infringement. I changed your label. We have a template for suspected copyright violations. Thanks. — Gares 05:42, 8 April 2012 (UTC)

Aha. Knowing of the specific template is useful. Thanks for the assist, Gares. Redshift 11:57, 8 April 2012 (UTC)

Armor Infobox[edit]

Do you like this? Lasha 15:55, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

NPC tables[edit]

I've noticed that you are editing NPC pages to agg tables. There is a table class 'npc' ({{STDT|sortable npc}}), so that tables match infoboxes. 'white' class is for multicolored tables like List of downed skills. Unless there was an agreement to use white tables instead, you should probably use 'npc' class instead. Alfa-R User Alfa-R sig.png 12:32, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

I hope this doesn't come off wrong, but I'm not particularly keen on using green for merchant tables. I'd be lying if I said that I didn't find it unappealing--we have red links, blue links, green text, blue text, purple icons, brown icons...and then we drop this in a green table. Aesthetics aside, it comes off strangely because green and blue are amongst the rarity colors. (and rarity is important as it helps distinguish why an item is being listed twice otherwise and provides another useful means of sorting) and the green of the table is thus, in my opinion, distracting to detriment. I hope that this reasoning makes sense, and would request that the usage of white be given consideration. Redshift 12:46, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
...I'm looking at the use of the NPC table, and it looks like we're trying to suggest that every other item listed in the table is a Masterwork. Redshift 12:49, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
