Jewels on Weapons[edit]

You said on the Jewel page that jewels cannot be overridden on weapons. I was not aware that any jewels could even appear in weapons! Could you give an example? --Felbryn 00:11, 11 January 2013 (UTC)

I added a Ruby Shard to a Verdant Staff. I haven't been able to find anything that can override it and based on the prior text on that page, is a fair assumption to be made that it can't be overridden. Also tried overwriting it with a Ruby+Plat Filigree item. I HAVE been able to overwrite Crests. Dargus 00:45, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
Ruby Shard is not a jewel, it is a gemstone. If you tried to override it with a jewel, then it failed because jewels (unlike gemstones) can only be placed in trinkets, not in weapons or armor; the fact that the weapon already contained a ruby shard was just coincidental. And if you overrode it with another upgrade component, then obviously it can be overridden. --Felbryn 01:26, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
I think he meant that he was able to apply something else to an item that already had a Crest, not that he was able to apply a Crest on top of a gemstone. Crests only go in armor, anyway. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 02:12, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
Aha. I see where my error was. I was confused by the fact that a Ruby Shard and Ruby Crystal were listed in the Gemstone Tier 4/5/6 table. Reverted my change. Dargus 02:14, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
Those are gemstones, yes, and gemstones can be applied to any item. Jewels, which are the upgraded versions of gemstones after being combined with a filigree, can only be applied to trinkets. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 04:44, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
Ack. Said Gemstone when I meant Jewel. They're listed on both pages, hence my confusion. Dargus 04:54, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
That's true; tiers 1-3 in the jewel stat table picture jewels, but tiers 4-6 picture gemstones. Huh. --Felbryn 06:37, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
I believe crests can be applied to any item, just like gemstones. I definitely have one in a weapon right now (there not being any point to a second sigil of luck on my magic find set). --Felbryn 06:37, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
