number of icons appearing doesn't match the count in all cases. -_- -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 07:21, 1 August 2014 (UTC)

I'll take a look at that, but in the meantime - your name-based system is undermined by the same-named skins that don't automatically unlock for all weight classes. Monocle, Adventurer's Scarf, Adventurer's Spectacles, Adventurer's Mantle... and I think there's one more like that but can't remember. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 12:15, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
There's something with a blank Has skin page between Tribal Vestments and Trickster's Vest:
Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 12:22, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
Actually, according to my database, there's only supposed to be 57 Light Coats, not 58 as reported by the count here, so that blank is a bug. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 12:31, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
Looks like the gem store equipment doesn't have the icons. We don't have pages for the individual items, so no skins there. Do we need to create whole pages for the gem store individual items so they'll show up here? Ex: Aetherblade Light Armor Skin Vahkris (talk) 14:20, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
Also, we have some that are empty icons, but because the page itself has the word "skin" on the end. ex: Zephyrite Lightning Helm Skin, Zephyrite Sun Helm Skin, Zephyrite Wind Helm Skin. Is there anything I can change on these pages so they'll properly send the icon or is this more of a coding thing? Vahkris (talk) 14:23, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
Yes, there should be a page for every item. When the item is "X Skin", that's just something that needs to be accounted for in the template. Alex has it pretty simple for now. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 14:35, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
Okay, I'll start working on making at least stub pages for those items so we can get icons assigned. Vahkris (talk) 14:50, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
Ah Vahkris, the "..._skin" bit can be resolved by giving the correct entry a "page" name on [[Chat link format/0x0A codes/Armor skins]] (see [[Template:Skin link table]] for details). -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 16:52, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
Got it, thanks! I'll update those first. Vahkris (talk) 17:09, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
nah I got those :P -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 17:16, 1 August 2014 (UTC)-
Hmmm, something's still not working properly. Zephyrite Helms have the links to the skin pages with the icons but they're still not pulling in the icon here. Vahkris (talk) 17:27, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
null edit (navigate to this template, hit edit, hit save page) fixed this. (got error 502 in the middle but it worked anyway) -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 17:39, 1 August 2014 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Okay, I've updated the chat link page so the majority of items now return icons. There are a few sets that don't though:

  • Illustrious (Ascended skin) - There's 19 variations of this with different colors, but all use the same icon. There's no single page that seems best to link for the icon.
  • Heavy Plate - There's no single location for this, although I'll be creating a set for the WvW skin so I'm planning on using that.
  • Militia Armor - it's a karma set, but no single definitive set to link...probably will create a set of skin pages.
  • Guild Defender/Archmage - will need to create skin pages as these don't seem to be obtainable in-game.
  • Apostle/Stalwart/Heavy Scale/Marauder - these are personal story skins that don't have a complete set (except old PvP). I'll need to build skin pages for the ones that don't exist.

Other than that, there's a error with one of the medium armor biography head skins. The rest look good. I'll double check with the wardrobe in-game next chance I get. Edit: Oh, and Diviner and Mist Walker armor sets pages do not yet have icons. Vahkris (talk) 21:35, 1 August 2014 (UTC)

Where do you get the different color variations for Illustrious? All 19 prefixes use the same skin, unlike weapons. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 22:03, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
Must be confusing it with the weapons then. Either way, I don't see a single "Illustrious" set for icons, only the 19 different items. Vahkris (talk) 22:32, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
Illustrious armor sets all share the same 18 icons afaik, see Beigarth's armor.
To fix the icon for the different colors of ascended (antique) weapons we'd need 7x skin infoboxes I suppose. Its obvious which skin is linked as they are the 7 from File:Ascended Weapon Colors.jpg. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 23:40, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, I could just pick one of the armor sets for the icon. I was holding up because there wasn't one single "main" set. I'll just link it to the first set alphabetically. The same would go with weapons, most of the icons are shared between at least two sets so we would just pick one. Vahkris (talk) 13:26, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

@ dr ish, the blank "Has skin page" thing was a page using skin infobox instead of [[Template:Skin link table]]. patched my way around it.. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 22:26, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

weapons[edit]

So I've run a bot to annotate the ascended weapons with skins, and then botted the skin pages in place with icons + gallery images. The golden wing weapons look like they might have a different skin name, or they've all been renamed. Other than that, its only individual anomalies to "fix". -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:08, 7 August 2014 (UTC)

It might load quicker if using original image size? 149.254.250.184 08:04, 8 August 2014 (UTC) (ca)
Golden Wing weapons are the skin name for Golden weapons on the wiki. Vahkris (talk) 15:20, 8 August 2014 (UTC)
Confirmed in the API. I'll get them moved. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 15:23, 8 August 2014 (UTC)

Overhaul[edit]

Alright. So I've made this a mainspace template, simplified and split it up into smaller chunks because its not sensible having pages that frequently cause 504s after editing.

I've made note of which skin page links currently need fixing / which pages need moving at the bottom of the template page. If someone could verify which names are correct for the actual items, I can go move stuff.

It might be that the icon format is not helpful for anyone, in which case, what format would you rather see + which information do you require (within reason)? We could paste in the item appearance instead of the icons (for weapons - armor doesn't have separate screenshots), the name could be displayed, and perhaps the chat link for the skin. There were some suggestions on Talk:Wardrobe. These subpages could potentially be accessed via a form, or we could make them look like [[Form:Skin query]]. I'm open to suggestions. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 14:10, 16 August 2014 (UTC)

Would this be friendlier to use...[edit]

If the names were permanently displayed below each icon, say in a small font (with a fixed height)? - this would remove the little widget. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 21:57, 1 December 2022 (UTC)

example currently up at User:Chieftain Alex/sandbox4. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 23:22, 1 December 2022 (UTC)
Looks good, why not. ~Sime 23:23, 1 December 2022 (UTC)
Looks better, I'm for it. Doesn't have mobile differences too. --Dak393 (talk) 00:11, 2 December 2022 (UTC)
I agree, a useful addition! —Kvothe (talk)
Thanks, updated the main template. I took some feedback from discord on board too by removing the break-word css. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 17:11, 2 December 2022 (UTC)
