Gares' status[edit]

I changed Gares' status to to inactive on the basis of his contribution log (no edits since January, only 5 since September). I have since noticed his administrative actions are a bit meatier, but only in bursts (one change in March; about a dozen in January; another dozen between Sept and January). For the practical matter of attempting to locate an administrator seen to be active, it's easier as a user if he's listed as inactive. (Near as I can tell, everyone else on the list is very active, extremely active, or resembles a bot in volume of content and admin edits.) – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 09:18, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

“or resembles a bot in volume of content and admin edits” – lol. poke | talk 14:18, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

Status[edit]

Should the status be updated for JonTheMon? Unless they are doing something behind the scenes the last edit is from december 2015. -Darqam 15:40, 3 January 2017 (UTC)

Agreed. This also applies to the gw1w, which seems to only have Greener now. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:21, 3 January 2017 (UTC)
Hey, I still check in GW1W a couple times every few months. Just did stuff there like 2 weeks ago, in fact. - Tanetris (talk) 02:44, 4 January 2017 (UTC)
I check GWW regularly too. poke | talk 07:31, 4 January 2017 (UTC)
Perhaps, someone should update this with Greener's new position. Inculpatus cedo (talk) 21:29, 25 June 2017 (UTC)
Done, thanks for the reminder. poke | talk 21:49, 25 June 2017 (UTC)
Just wondering...why do the US Time Zones use (x)ST when it is (x)DT right now? (No idea if the UTC conversion is right or wrong.) Inculpatus cedo (talk) 21:57, 25 June 2017 (UTC)
I'd imagine mostly because we don't want to have to edit every time Daylight Saving Time begins and ends, and an hour off is mostly close enough, since it's really only to give a very general impression of the hours people are likely to be awake vs asleep. I'd guess it may be possible for someone to update Template:Timezone to add an option to automatically switch for DST. Someone like Poke, perhaps. - Tanetris (talk) 22:45, 25 June 2017 (UTC)
In the past, we usually edited the admin list whenever DST changed for someone on the list. That was kind of messy and always involved having to remember it and manually changing it. At some point, we just stopped doing that because everybody got lazy.
I would like having an auto DST conversion but DST rules are a bit awkward around the world, so it’s kind of difficult to do that. And even so, the result would be still be cached, so someone had to purge the page before seeing any changes there. Not sure if that makes it better compared to having a list that simply ignores the existence of DST for now. I actually don’t mind having it the way it is now. Maybe we should add an asterisk there, explaining that DST might need to be applied manually to get the correct time.. :P poke | talk 22:51, 25 June 2017 (UTC)

Ok, but for US it is 8 months DT and 4 months ST, so if no one wants to update, it might be correct more of the time with DT. Of course, up to you admins. Thanks. Inculpatus cedo (talk) 23:32, 25 June 2017 (UTC)

DST[edit]

With regards to the above, how about using a template; maybe something like this? So maybe like: {{timezone| {{#ifexpr: {{tz offset| <not deprecated time zone database name appropriate for the location> }} = <hour offset while observing standard time> | <standard time time zone> | <dailyight savings time time zone> }} }}.

* {{timezone| {{#ifexpr: {{User:Nightsky/Sandbox5| Europe/London }} = 0 | GMT | BST }} }}
* {{timezone| {{#ifexpr: {{User:Nightsky/Sandbox5| America/New_York }} = -5 | EST | EDT }} }}
* {{timezone| {{#ifexpr: {{User:Nightsky/Sandbox5| America/Chicago }} = -6 | CST | CDT }} }}
* {{timezone| {{#ifexpr: {{User:Nightsky/Sandbox5| Europe/Berlin }} = 1 | CET | CEST }} }}
* {{timezone| {{#ifexpr: {{User:Nightsky/Sandbox5| America/Vancouver }} = -8 | PST | PDT }} }}

Thoughts? Nightsky (talk) 19:19, 11 May 2021 (UTC)

From my perspective the timezone gives no useful indication as to when I check the wiki. I operate early in the morning, at lunch, and very late at night.. if someone tries to use business hours I'm outta here. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:33, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
While that might be it would be a more acurate indication of the time of day observed at your location none the less. Nightsky (talk) 20:42, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
