Possible colors?[edit]

During the beta weekend, I opened up 15+ unidentified dyes. Every time I got something different, running the whole gamut of rarities. I was under the impression any color was possible, is this not true? --Emelend 01:40, 2 May 2012 (UTC)

Package/Container?[edit]

During BWE3, this was listed under the Container filter in the Black Lion Trading Compan. Should the type be changed to package? (Or to container if this wiki decides to follow the game's naming convention). Phoenix Avenger 00:53, 23 July 2012 (UTC)

Sorting table for no-longer-Unidentified Dyes[edit]

Something along these lines might be suitable:

Rarity Grays Browns Reds Oranges Yellows Greens Blues Purples
Fine

Square Fine Dye.pngFluff Dye

Square Fine Dye.pngSilver Lead Dye

List of browns List of reds List of oranges List of yellows List of greens List of blues List of purples
Masterwork List of grays List of browns List of reds List of oranges List of yellows List of greens List of blues List of purples
Rare List of grays List of browns List of reds List of oranges List of yellows List of greens List of blues List of purples
Would it be possible to put a preview of the colour next to the dye instead of the picture of the dye bottle? Since there's so many of the same it seems kinda pointless, and a colour preview similar to what we have on the actual dye pages would be much more useful than having to click to each page.--86.28.147.193 11:39, 11 December 2012 (UTC)

Dye icons[edit]

Should we use the icon of the dye bottle for each identified dye, or should we use the color of the dye? I think we should use the color of the dye, mostly because people don't really want to find out what kind of bottle the dye comes in, and it gives them a bit of a preview. Drop rate[edit]

Has there been any increase in the drop rate most recently? The trading post price fell from ~4 silver to ~2.5 and I found 30 vials today - compared to usually 5-10 a day. 109.91.252.10 01:40, 4 November 2012 (UTC)

I reckon it has been increased considerably, as I've been getting a lot more in random drops too. Someoneinatree 00:07, 6 November 2012 (UTC)
I haven't played "Maps" (killing mobs while doing events/hearts) a lot recently, and when i decided to lvl up my Ranger i thought i have really big luck, but after day or two, when i dropped ~15 Unidenified Dyes, and 3-4 of them were rare colors i also think that drop rate was increased (and chance to get rare color) Czokalapik 12:40, 1 December 2012 (UTC)

Duplication?[edit]

When one uses an undentified dye on with character, is the dye always a new one (to that character)? Related to that, if you use a new dye (from an unidentified one), and it is already known, will the game stop you, or just let you waste it? Daddicus 16:42, 22 November 2012 (UTC)

No to the first question, the game stops you to the second question. -- MS 18:27, 22 November 2012 (UTC)

Recipe - still in game?[edit]

Is the recipe still in game? Because the unidentified dye itself doesn't say it's an ingredient for Chef, but for Artificer. Or am I misunderstanding the purpose of the Recipe section?--Cyberman 19:53, 19 December 2012 (UTC)

Do you mean the recipe for Gift of Color? I imagine that ArenaNet have neglected to add "Chef (400)" to the description, like they have for various other crafting materials and crafting professions. --Combatter 14:07, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

Chance of getting rare/masterwork/fine[edit]

Has the chances of getting each tier or rarity ever been researched? It seems simple enough and not too expensive (at least compared to ecto researches), so I am quite surprised no one didn't do it yet. -- Darkever 2013/02/05, 09:30 (UTC)

60/30/10 fine/master/rare from about 300 or so in September. I'll see if I can find the source. 75.37.20.148 04:42, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
74/16/15(70%/15%/14%) for 105 Unidentified Dyes just now. Anyone else interested in a drop rate page to keep track? I'll be using a spreadsheet to track my own results anyway. The problem with this research turns out to be inventory space rather than cost. :) 50.14.244.111 19:11, 7 August 2013 (UTC)
I'm going to record my findings here in case a drop rate page is ever created. 75 total, 5/14/56 Rare/Masterwork/Fine Hydroclasm (talk) 03:03, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
A recent sample of 10k dyes yielded a split of roughly 70/20/10 (7171/1801/1,028). SarielV 20 x 20px 15:04, 16 May 2017 (UTC)

Do these still exist?[edit]

Do these still exist as drops? I can't find them in the BLTC, and I haven't seen one drop for months. Has anybody else had one drop recently? Daddicus (talk)

They don't drop as separate items anymore, but they are included in some bags, chests and at some merchants. They can be bought through the trading post. I updated the acquisition section. G R E E N E R 23:21, 15 July 2015 (UTC)

Properties need to be looked at again for generated list.[edit]

Electro Purple Dye and others are currently being shown in the Contains list due to the use of Property:Has dye set. I'm guessing we need to use another parameter, but unsure which is best given the new "kits" use. Perhaps that could be done as an exclusion flag? G R E E N E R 23:35, 29 June 2017 (UTC)

What about a default kit parameter, like "Other" or "Non-exclusive". Don't have to show it in the infobox, just query it here. 85.197.11.45 17:53, 1 July 2017 (UTC)

Feedback 2021/09/11[edit]

Maybe Mark the Conflux Recipe under retired or historical as its no longer a required recipe. (im not good at this wiki stuff) --Whowantblood (talk) 01:37, 11 September 2021 (UTC)

The template is still pulling it for this reason: "...previously crafted rings can be still upgraded into Conflux by using the historical recipe." So while it's true it's not required, it's still able to be done. ;) - Doodleplex 01:40, 11 September 2021 (UTC)
