Talk:Platinum Ore (node)

Does someone have any additional information on the rich platinum vein that is supposed to be somewhere in Apostate Wastes in Fireheart Rise? The sub-area is quite big and I have run through it on different servers, but couldn't find a rich vein and don't know where exactly to look. I searched all over on my server, tarnished coast, and I found a neat way to get out of the map, but no rich platinum. Its possible its a mistake and there is in fact no rich ore there. Psycho Robot (talk) 01:00, 2 January 2014 (UTC)

Rich vein gathering[edit]

Twice now I've only managed to gather 8 times from a Rich Platinum Vein in WvW. Has it changed from 10 recently? Magua (talk) 18:52, 25 May 2014 (UTC)

Normally a rich vein gives you 10 hits (not considering bonus hits from Gathering Booster & WvW bonus), however a lot of the rich veins in WvW bug out and give less hits than they're supposed to. In PvE pretty much every rich vein works fine and can be hitted atleast 10 times. --Landon144 (talk) 21:04, 16 June 2014 (UTC)
There's a visual bug affecting some of the rich nodes. It happened to Iron a few updates back, too. I mine a few nodes every day and keep track of how much ore I get and that remains the same. It might look as if you are gathering only 8 times, so keep track of the mats before and after instead so you can see that there is no change. Also check how many uses your pick has before and after. That still drops by 10 uses after the rich vein is exhausted, not by 8. 75.37.22.18 23:59, 16 June 2014 (UTC)
Discussion on this also taking place at User talk:Magua#rich veins - I just discovered that this bug doesn't affect infinite mining picks, only standard ones. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 01:47, 17 June 2014 (UTC)

Permanent vs. guaranteed[edit]

In the article, the words permanent and guaranteed seem to be used interchangeably. Should that be stated? Or, should one be changed to the other everywhere?Daddicus (talk) 14:11, 19 June 2017 (UTC)

I changed the wording so the words are not interchanged as they were. Matite (talk) 8:02, 20th June 2017 (UTC)

2 ore from a single strike?[edit]

Any verification that it's actually possible to get 2 ore from a single strike, from either rich or normal platinum nodes? I've never once gotten 2 ore from an open world plat node, both from memory and referencing logged records I've made in the past. Is it possible to get 2 ore in a single strike in WvW maps? If not, I suspect the "(1-2)" yield notation is an assumption, possibly carried over from rich iron nodes where 2 ore is about a 50/50 chance, or there is an exception somewhere. Unless someone can actually verify 2 ore is possible (a screenshot would do) from platinum nodes, I suggest that notation be removed as inaccurate or the notation be made a footnote if 2 ore is possible due to a verifiable exception. It's definitely not typical of open world nodes, and if it's even possible it's exceptionally rare. Kruhljak (talk) 01:28, 20 August 2017 (UTC)

The page encompasses both the normal node and the rich vein. The veins can get 2 in a hit but the normal nodes can't. Which should probably be notated on all these pages --Gimmethegepgun (talk) 03:40, 20 August 2017 (UTC)
After re-compiling fresh data, I still ask: can anyone produce a screenshot as proof that you can get 2 ore from a single unbuffed mining strike from anything other than a rich iron node? My new data reinforces my older data that all normal metal nodes (copper through orichalcum) except rich iron nodes, will produce 1 ore per strike. No more, no less. If there are exceptions, let's see screenshots to illustrate them, with reference to what zone/area it occurred in. Until such evidence is shown, I think the relevant pages should be updated to remove the 2 ore chance notation entirely. Kruhljak (talk) 09:03, 20 October 2017 (UTC)

Double Shiverpeak Mountains Section[edit]

There is a second shiverpeak mountain section under vein locations. I don't know if this was intentional or just an error. Primeortis (talk)
