Regarding availability in game from npc[edit]

From edits http://wiki.guildwars2.com/index.php?title=Ogre_pet_whistle&diff=prev&oldid=455856 and http://wiki.guildwars2.com/index.php?title=Ogre_pet_whistle&diff=next&oldid=455856:

"There has been report that this item is not sold from Gortho, Son of Malik anymore, but it is still sold. The event "Help the ogres defend Bronzeglade Crossing from the Flame Legion" must be suceeded for Malik to switch from selling tonics to whistles. From Gladefall Waypoint, if the town after bridge is destroyed, you have to go to Grostogg's Kraal Waypoint to find the town invaded by branded. Complete that event, and Gortho, Son of Malik (pet whistle vendor) will revive.

After the event, Gortho, Son of Malik will go outside of the town. A yellow circle will appear on its head, it will start the escort quest. Escort him to Gladefall Waypoint.

When you get there, the event will finish and he built the town, be will become a vendor. At this point, he will sell Ogre Pet Tonic.

A few minutes later, the town will be attacked by flame legion - it's an event. Defend the down and succeed the event

Gortho, Son of Malik will now sell Ogre Pet Whistle."

Why was the above deleted from the page and banished here? It's key information that should be in the main wiki (assuming that it is correct, of course). MaryaBinteFool 12:00, 11 December 2012 (UTC)
Perhaps because it's no longer true? I took one of my chars to this area for the first time and he was standing there in the middle of his little village all ready to sell me a whistle without any preamble. The only caveat I can think of is that I had run one other character through the area before, did the quest involving the ogres and their pets vs the Flame Legion and their minions beforehand. But, unless he becomes permanently available on an account-wide basis, the quest bit isn't necessary. Kruhljak (talk) 13:21, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
Ok, so it looks like this routine is required to be done once (by anyone) after which Gortho will remain selling whistles indefinitely(?). Kruhljak (talk) 11:22, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
I just did the quests as listed above and it worked just fine, I'm going to add the information back to the page. Kormon Balser User Kormon Balser Tango-dervish-icon-small.png 03:19, 2 March 2013 (UTC)

Regarding use with Elemental Powder[edit]

You can consume a use of the fire elemental powder while you have one of the ogre pets out, but you will not get an ember ally. If you have the ember out first you can summon an ogre pet and have both out at the same time. You can also summon an ogre pet while in downed state, whereas you cannot summon an ember in downed state. This is all noted via personal testing/experience. 173.25.199.251 01:47, 8 June 2013 (UTC)Risa

Pet attack distance[edit]

I just summoned one of these pets while at the LA training dummies and no matter how far I went from the pet, it would not return to me. It just kept on attacking the dummies. This should deff be addressed, it should return to the summoner at the same sort of range as the Rangers pet does. User Tytan Crow Crow.jpg Titan Crow 09:39, 11 January 2013 (UTC)

The item is designed to work as a minion. It effectively works correctly but no, it's not that good. I agree with you but 1) this is the incorrect location for feedback and 2) I doubt they'd change it anyways. 71.51.53.234 04:54, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
Maybe next time, if you want to test it, you shouldn't set it to attack a target that cannot be destroyed. --Rognik 03:39, 2 March 2013 (UTC)

Time out?[edit]

does the Ogre Pet Whistle die after 5 min like the fire elemental? Yes4me 00:24, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

Condensed, reformatted[edit]

I condensed and reformatted this article, mostly for ease of use, but also for consistency. Edits to the Ogre Pet Whistle article over the last year or so have tended to introduce paragraphs where information was previously given a more concise presentation. By contrast, almost all current wiki articles about consumables are more succinct, and only exceptionally use full, descriptive paragraphs.

No information about the item itself has been removed. However, I removed some information that was less directly associated with the item. For example, previously there were two paragraphs comprising a synopsis of the merchant's event chain, indicating when and where the merchant would sell his various items. That information is already present in the NPC's article.

For comparison, consider the relationship between the contents of the articles Effigy Fragment, Grathzion the Dauntless, and Track down and kill the effigies in Amduat Point with Grathzion.

Obviously anyone is free to revise; but if you feel strongly about the stylistic differences between the previous version and the current version, and would like to revert it, let's discuss it here first (to prevent edit warring). (PM me if you plan to revert the changes for some other reason, especially if you have something to say about procedure).
