Talk:Nightthistle

I'm in favor of keeping the page because I've seen people say "Nightthistle HP" or simply "Nightthistle" in chat. I didn't remember there even were two with the same name until now. - Doodleplex 16:04, 2 August 2017 (UTC)

The usual argument against this is that the two correct articles will be suggested in the search bar as you type "nightthistle". I'm not sure what I was thinking when I created this page; probably something along the lines of your argument. I've added otheruses tags to the two articles anyway. --Idris (talk) 16:09, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
While true, I'm thinking of the people that do /wiki Nightthistle to see where to go, this page strike me as a little more helpful than the generic search page. Also seeing as how it could easily be a redirect for both HPs, it's probably best to just leave as a disambiguation page. - Doodleplex 16:27, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
I've just thought of something -- Rainspell, did you tag this for deletion because it's an orphaned page? That isn't necessary for disambigs and redirects, as many of them exist solely to improve searching. --Idris (talk) 16:40, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
Looks like it is indeed an orphaned page. - Doodleplex 16:43, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
Yep. For most orphan disambiguation pages it makes sense to not really have anything link to them. (Especially those that have ~5-6 links coming from them) But there are a few that only feature 2 links. I was thinking that it would be better to just have "see also" lines on both pages, or one page. I tend to have a problem distinguishing when in-game slang/shortcuts are still in use (see Talk:Ms), so when I saw this pages, I just thought it was a niche term. I'm ok with leaving it up since you say it's useful.
Is there a policy page for disambiguation pages? Because I've been trying to mark them down as I find them, and there's quite a few that are only 2 links. (I've been sorting links so I can go through and JUST handle 2link disambiguation, or JUST handle articles, not because I have plans to delete request all of them. Promise <3) So far I've figured that game-update notes are a lost cause, unless we want a massive update summary page. (Good god.) I have no clue what to do with word-for-word articles. Some specialized historical NPCs might be refugees forever, etc. --Rain Spell (talk) 21:06, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
The wiki got rid of policies, so you won't find anything. I usually go with "is this popular enough to warrant needing a disambig page?" and if it is, I'd leave it alone. So stuff like hero challenges, locations, etc. I'd keep, but it's just "two npcs with the same name", like Zyanya then I wouldn't. - Doodleplex 21:15, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
