Against deletion[edit]

Gap closer is a common enough term in gaming to describe a skill that lessens the distance between you and your foe. I believe ANet devs use it themselves in one of their posts about movement and skill balancing. There are 174 posts on the forums that make use of "gap closer." 75.37.16.51 08:15, 21 January 2013 (UTC)

Gap-closer is a ridiculous term and I have never seen it used in-game. Looks like it was picked up from WoW or LoL in the same way CC and mobs were. If we're going to keep the term, it's usage in forums omits the hyphen.--Relyk ~ talk > 08:44, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
Leap and pretty much agree with Relyk. Even if not deleted, it should be reduced to redirect only. Mediggo 10:03, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
It's an extremely useful tactical concept, it's well used by a notable subset of industry fans and insiders, and so I think there's plenty of reason to have an article that covers the idea. And tbh, I'm not sure I understand why there's an objection to have articles that help explain tactics; not everyone who plays understands stuff like this.
  • Leap is one type of gap-closer; pull is another. When RPG tacticians discuss the concept, they sometimes include snares and speed boosts, which are techniques used to close the distance between player and target.
  • A lot of compound phrases start off life with a hyphen and end up becoming two distinct words or a single word, such as a lot of people using "one handed weapon" or "onehanded weapon," when "one-handed weapon" is technically correct.
  • I've been using terms like CC and mobs since long before there were MMOs (well, "crowd control" more so than CC, but then I tend to spell stuff out). Even when jargon starts with WoW or LoL, the concept and terminology might still be important to and/or useful for GW2.
I'd like to see the concept explained on the wiki, even if the term just redirects to an article on tactics. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:31, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
I pretty much agree with Ernie, but I think we should move this to the non-hyphenated version to make it simpler to find. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 17:35, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
I'm not familiar with the term, hyphenated or not. I'd argue that, if "gap-closer" is a standalone article name, it would be grammatically incorrect. As such, I also agree this should be a redirect to gap closer at most. - Infinite - talk 17:42, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
