Category talk:Chef recipes from Dry Top
Category creation[edit]
I went ahead and created this category because I think there is a need for this sort of category on the Wiki. Looking at the recipe for a particular consumable, why shouldn't we be able to see immediately where its recipe sheet (if there is one) comes from? This is particularly useful when dealing with recipes whose recipe sheets are account-bound, or (perhaps even moreso) "limited edition" (e.g. Recipe: Plate of Frostgorge Clams).
Yes, you obtain the same information from the Favor of the Zephyrites article, or from one of the geode merchant articles. But I see no reason not to have multiple roads that lead to Rome, particularly in consideration of the fact that there are several potential categories just like this one.
That being said, please feel free to re-name or re-organize this categorization if you can think of a better one. Personally, I think there ought to be a category one level up in the hierarchy called "Chef recipes requiring an unlock" (yes, even though this information is available in the chef article; the logical category exists nonetheless).
- The wiki has Semantic Mediawiki to avoid creating these kinds of Wikipedia-style categories, you can generate the information with a semantic query like User:Relyk/SMW/query/chefrecipesfromdrytop. One of the main issues with this is that while these recipes can all be purchased from vendors, many recipes have multiple methods to obtain them and/or multiple sources. There may also be multiple recipes for the same item depending on the discipline. Categories don't show any additional information to the player, so such specific categories don't end up being helpful.
- On the more general topic of seeing where the recipe sheet comes from, you would visit the recipe sheet page. I'm not sure what issue is being addressed or how categories would help address it.--Relyk ~ talk < 00:46, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
- Just add a list of them to Dry Top#Crafting resources (model after Queensdale#Crafting resources). That's much more useful than a category - most wiki readers don't really understand what categories are or how to use them.
- @Relyk: On that same note, very few wiki readers are going to know how to use SMW. :P —Dr Ishmael 03:39, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
- Yeah, I'm more in favor of adding it to relevant articles than creating categories that usually go unnoticed by new users. —Ventriloquist 09:27, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
