Userboxes and categories[edit]

Hiya, I noticed that you created some new user boxes, which is why I'm here. Due to GW2W mechanics, I have to ask of you not to use new categories for users to be categorised in, but rather only use existing categories. Thank you in advance! Happy wiki-ing! - Infinite - talk 12:22, 22 March 2012 (UTC)

ok i can create user boxes without categories? Rudhraighe 12:26, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
Yup, without categories or with existing categories is really the only standard. You're free to create any amount of userboxes! :) - Infinite - talk 12:30, 22 March 2012 (UTC)

Questions on instance articles[edit]

Since you asked a question across various talk pages, I'll quote myself here for a reminder; "You already posed this question on Instance, please don't duplicate comments. :)". That said, people will stalk the recent changes and answer the question wherever they find it first (thus there is only need for a single copy of the question). Happy wiki-ing! - Infinite - talk 15:28, 31 March 2012 (UTC)

Apologies i just thought it would be extremely important for first time players to know that you have to "Live" with any mistakes or oversights you make in One Time Instances that you have to recreate a new chatacter if you want a "Do Over" Rudhraighe 15:32, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
Once it's been confirmed that certain instances are one-time only experiences (per character), we'll make sure to put a note for it on the instance articles affected, no worries! :) - Infinite - talk 15:33, 31 March 2012 (UTC)

Beta Key[edit]

I saw your comment on the pre-purchase list talk page. A little bit above you someone posted here that there is a section in their contact us on their website about missing beta keys and maybe that can help. If in a few days you still haven't gotten anywhere, I got some extra Beta Keys from PAX East over the weekend and I can send you one so you don't miss out on that while figuring all of this out. I wanted to give these keys out to people having technical problems or people who really wanted to pre-purchase but are just unable to, so just post on my talk page if you still need a key at the end of the week and I'll hook you up with a key. Foundry concept art[edit]

Hello Rudhraighe, I moved the before mentioned concept art to your user space User Rudhraighe-Foundry- concept art.jpg I did this because it's a Guild Wars 1 concept art, and this is the Guild Wars 2 wiki. If you've got any questions or critiques about this, please contact me on my talk page found here. Thank you and have fun editing! --you like that don't you..The Holy Dragons 06:21, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

Personal choices[edit]

Dude, stop making these articles. Do you see, all of them are candidats for del? Shan 06:53, 1 May 2012 (UTC)

These are items and storyline quest stubs that directly affect character starting equipment or story lines I have some of the items and images in screenshots but it will take days to edit all the data and Icons Rudhraighe 06:56, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
I think the proper way to go about these bits of information (instead of extreme vs extreme) is to document the choices that yield equipment as item articles for those pieces of equipment, but leave every choice that doesn't yield a piece of equipment without articles. We have the biography article, after all. Per example, the Visionary's Helm would get an item article (solely about the item Visionary's Helm), with a note (or something similar to a note) that it is obtained as a starter item by choosing the biography option of the same name. The biography article can then link to those items directly. - Infinite - talk 10:04, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
I agree. Actual items would merit a page of their own. Background choices with no actual item can all just be redirects to Biography. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 13:12, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
I've been going through the edits and fixing articles. Rudhraighe, please look at the format I give and follow for item producing options - the storylines are/will be documented in their own way, not under bio option names (NPCs too, though those will likely share bio option names but will be formatted differently and will not share the bio option icon since NPC icons in game are circular not squares). Konig/talk 21:03, 1 May 2012 (UTC)

.jpg overriding .png[edit]

That's because {{recipe}} is coded to use .jpg icons, not simply because the .jpg version exists. ({{Item infobox}} is correct and uses the .png version.) I would fix it right now, except I have no clue how many icons are like this and will need to be replaced. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 00:00, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

fix it now and i will work on replacing the icons before things get too far out of hand, it may take me a few days but i am willing I Promise Rudhraighe 00:04, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

Images[edit]

Hey, thanks for uploading those images. I noticed that you were adding your signature to them though - signatures should only really be added to talk pages; for other pages like articles and images, the history page is enough to show who edited what. pling User Pling sig.png 23:30, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

Stop spamming this message, please. Mora 16:25, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
i am only posting it on the most recent contributors who may have forgotten the format for icons i just spent the last 3 days altering .jpg to .png and i'm still finding more icons i missed every day sorry if this is an inconvenience for you but sometimes a friendly reminder will prevent thousands of work hours later best now than after the next few beta's Rudhraighe 16:29, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
Sorry about all the .jpg icons, I first uploaded a .png, but since the template boxes for armor and crafting materials were only recognizing .jpg images, I started uploading them all as .jpg because I thought that was the right format for the wiki. Won't happen again :) CranSnap
Rudhraighe, just because you spent a lot of time uploading icons does not mean that you need to spam every recent contributor's talk page with a reminder about icons. Most of us know what the deal is, thank you very much, and speaking personally, I don't need reminders that are copy-pastes from the formatting guidelines that I've been working on re-writing. Spamming talk pages with that kind of message is really unnecessary. I know it was a preemptive strike, but you should be reactive for this kind of stuff, not proactive. And there is absolutely no way that it would have been "thousands of hours of work [to correct mistakes] later." A bot could easily handle that kind of task in a couple of hours, tops.
(To provide a comparison: we don't spam every new person's talk page with a "hi, name your images this, always sign comments, ask the helpers if you have questions, etc.". We welcome them, and then offer them explanations of stuff iff they break stuff. Aqua (T|C) 00:58, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
Apologies at my age i can only expect to live another 50 years when you get that old active is a subjective word be it abstractive, bioactive, coactive, contractive, counteractive, distractive, enactive, extractive, hyperactive, hyperreactive, immunoreactive, inactive, interactive, neuroactive, nonradioactive, nonreactive, nonretroactive, overactive, proactive, protractive, psychoactive, reactive, retroactive, subtractive, protoreactive, or underactive, i did what i thought was prudent in as polite a manner as i am able so If we shadows have offended, Think but this, and all is mended, That you have but slumber'd here While these visions did appear. And this weak and idle theme, No more yielding but a dream, Gentles, do not reprehend: if you pardon, we will mend: And, as I am an honest Puck, If we have unearned luck Now to 'scape the serpent's tongue, We will make amends ere long; Else the Puck a liar call; So, good night unto you all. Give me your hands, if we be friends, And Robin shall restore amends. ~W.S. (MSND5:1)~ and i promise not to do it again Rudhraighe 04:20, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

crafting material types[edit]

Are those crafting materials (e.g. Jute Scrap) actually identified as both Trophy and Crafting Material? I only remember them saying Crafting Material explicitly in the item description. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 01:28, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

the type "Trophy" is not my addition but they are drops from creatures i have no objection to removing the "Trophy" designation if they are not actually a trophy used to craft Again i did not add the "Trophy" designation Rudhraighe 01:32, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
I know, which is why I was wondering why you weren't removing it. From what I saw, "trophies" in GW2 are things like Hoof and Spider Leg that a) can't be salvaged, b) are soulbound, and c) have no other item type identifier. So crafting materials would not be trophies. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 01:35, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
i tend to get into trouble "Removing" information placed by others i have no trouble rearranging it ;) i Agree with your observations but unless someone else want's to "make the call"... i will skip it for now add the type2 = crafting material since the template needs it anyway for food and other items and i'll spend a later rainy day removing the trophy (since it is a category) and cannot be very big right now... later unless you have a better solution ?? Rudhraighe 01:41, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
Did you see my response on Template talk:Item infobox? It would be less work to wait until SMW gets installed and update the template once (to where you can do type=crafting material, ingredient) instead of updating it now (to type=crafting material | type2 = ingredient) and then have to do the other update anyway. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 02:05, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

Admin noticeboard[edit]

Why'd you put links to Erasculio's reviews and talk there? Mediggo 06:32, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

it has nothing to do with GW2 and this is not a private BBS / chat room / notice board or Mailbox Rudhraighe 06:37, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
They're all in userspace. Rants and everything that is not outright offensive in a very serious manner is allowed afaik. You could have posted about it in a new section instead of in vandal issues since Erasculio's reviews are definitely not vandalism. Mediggo 07:05, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
as opposed to what ?? Hair gel products, Contraceptives, or any other Non GW2 or GW2 Wiki related business?? so you are saying any user can post any material whatsoever in a talk page like Add Spam or Marketing or How to Find a Personal Loan Company? where is the line drawn just because it's not offensive to some players does not mean it isn't offensive to others the expectation here is GW2 related material not 40,000 characters on other games topics or issues Rudhraighe 07:16, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
I don't think there's any relation between commercial bot spam and off-topic articles/discussion created by actual contributors in their own userspace. I'm pretty sure nobody has ever contested this before. Mediggo 07:30, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

(Simple) Redirect?[edit]

I was wondering why are you redirecting some (simple) page to their non simple version? has there been something said to refuse all the weapon page togheter? or is it your trying to change it to (Simple) with a capital S ? Tech Wolf-Talk 14:27, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

There are several issues here First the (simple) at the end of recipes should be (Simple) and all small s pages i fix i'll mark for deletion Second when you search for Items the (Simple) does not appear in inventory but it does appear in the Recipe so we only need 1 page with the full information and a second (Simple) Redirect for the Recipe Rudhraighe 14:34, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
So then you will be refusing all (Simple) recepy page to the non simple one? ah ok Tech Wolf-Talk 14:48, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
i'll be changing simple to Simple and redirecting those pages to the item page with the recipes on them that have the (Simple) suffix we need both the item page and the recipe pages but we don't need to duplicate the data just redirect for search and recipe listings Rudhraighe 14:53, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
You know when you don't use punctuation, it makes it extremely hard to understand what you're saying. :( --Xu Davella 15:27, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

Related: [1] Why did you remove the "standard" recipe? —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 15:51, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

as of the last event there were no "Standard" recipe just the ones with Prefixes and (Simple) suffixes. And items in inventory did not display the suffix (Simple) that only appeared on the Recipes. if i have made, or am in error i apologize. And Yes that was the only one i saw that was in error contrary to all current information and screen shots so i removed it for the time being as "currently" out of date. Rudhraighe 15:58, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
take a look at the updated page now ?? Rudhraighe 16:30, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
You're sure there was no standard recipe? Since those must get discovered first I'm pretty sure I still had those in my recipe list on the stress test, I have no screenshot to prove it thought Tech Wolf-Talk 16:37, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
This is all i have to go on, file:User Rudhraighe Screenshot Gw2-2012-05-14-14-36-55-48.png|60px but i saw no evidence of basic recipe discovery or any other options. i did not however attempt the recipe i removed. i can replace it for now if you wish? or just document it in "talk" for now ?? as an old recipe ? Rudhraighe 16:48, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
Restore it, I'd say. The way I understand it, the (simple) recipes are like "tutorial" recipes that show you basic components for an item and do not require an inscription. The standard recipes do require an inscription, and the item has bigger bonuses because of that. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 16:55, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
Restored Rudhraighe 16:58, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
I'm aware that you have restored but if your curious here is what I had User Tech Wolf Screenshot Gw2-033.jpg it is from the beta and I'm pretty sure it was the same thing when I checked in the strees test Tech Wolf-Talk 18:20, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
were there any other without the (Simple) besides the torch and the shortbow? Rudhraighe 18:51, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
Every other also had one without the (Simple) since I have made each one for collecting info but I was sure I had an other screenshot to confirm this but it seem I can find it or maybe I simply didn't took a screenshot. All that was required to make a non (Simple) one required to replace vial of weak blood for any incription like Ishmael said. Tech Wolf-Talk 20:22, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

Don't edit your comments[edit]

Try to don't do this[[2]]. It's considered a bad practice in Wikis, cause you have left some answers as wrong or offtopic.

When making certain Edits...[edit]

Like this one, [3] it may be more helpful to use the <s> and </s> tags to cross out things that you want to fix on comments that people already replied to. This is a comment i want to fix or remove. Because right now, it's confusing as one person already replied about the spanish comment while your comment now talks about french, which makes it seem disjointed. Anyways, just a suggestion to help avoid some confusion by other editors :). --Lania User Lania Elderfire pinkribbon.jpg21:29, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

{{delete}}[edit]

Hey Rudhraighe,
When applying {{delete}}, you can use additional parameters as described on the template's page to specify the reasons for tagging it. You can also tag pages and files that shouldn't require any discussion as speedy (most commonly applied to vandalism and personal user space pages), so that they may be deleted on shorter notice.

Discovering crafting[edit]

Wouldn't it make more sense to put that text on Crafting instead of each individual crafting page? Or is it subtly different for each? --JonTheMon 20:09, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

there are general rules that apply to all discovery mechanics and other rules that narrow to each discipline specifically like the jeweler has a pretty narrow set of combinations. i have not explored beyond Chef and Jeweler too far but i'm pretty sure each of the other crafting discovery mechanics will display further but perhaps more complex combination rules similar to jeweler. the comments i added are mostly a stub for explaining those further refined rules for those specific disciplines beyond the broader mechanics Rudhraighe 20:23, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
Well, from what I can tell, those rules apply to all the professions and should then be on the common Crafting page instead. Can you give some examples of where the individual profs differ from the rules? --JonTheMon 20:28, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
it is possible that some of what i posted is more general in nature for the discovery mechanics for all the crafting disciplines, however; there is no information on each discipline page redirecting users to go to the general crafting page to insist that they should read about crafting mechanics FIRST before reading the jeweler, chef, or other specific discipline only after reading the crafting page. it's like a book store not allowing a customer to buy 'Return of the King' until they can prove that they have read 'The Hobbit' and the other 2 books in the trilogy FIRST. and yes like Jeweler there will be SPECIFIC rules for discovery in Artificer, Leatherworker, Armorer, .... that apply specifically and only to those disciplines, i have only explored the other 6 fields enough to recognize a glimmer of their specific pattern but not enough to be able to formalize and document if for wiki at this time. Rudhraighe 20:43, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
We don't insist on making people go to parent pages because we provide links to it. At the top of Jeweler, one of the first words is a link that leads them to general information. And one of the goals of a wiki is reducing redundancy and if the same instructions apply to all crafting professions, it should be on the common page. If you don't know any specific rules for Jeweler that are different from Artificer, etc, then it should be on the common Crafting page. --JonTheMon 20:56, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

name origin[edit]

Well, alright then: what is the origin of your username? :P My guess is Gaelic, based on the spelling, but I'm not certain of that. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 19:24, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

Rudhraighe (or Rudraighe, or Rury) is a name rooted in ancient Gaelic myths and legends, that has since carried over into both Scotland and Ireland and can trace it origins even further back in prehistory (three hundred and eleven years after the great Flood, and 2550 years after the creation of the world, or 2057 B.C.) "The Wave of Rudraighe" (today called Dundrum bay) was named after a local tribe in the prehistoric period, called Rudhraighe", there were orders of Knights attributed to Rudhraighe "The warriors of Rudhraighe, often freely translated as the “Red Branch Knights,”" even a Race that called themselves "of the race of Rudhraighe", just to cite a very few. The name has 2 popular meanings both valid and non contradictory, "the valiant king" or, "the red-haired king." Rud (Ruddy) = Red or Valiant and Raighe as in Royal, Ruler, Regis, Regent, (ie. King). The Ancient Legend goes that Rudhraighe was the first (Rudraighe son of the Sea God Partholan 2057 B.C.), the Last (Rudhraighe Ó Domhnaill,30 July 1608), and the Future (to Be) Gaelic King. (this legend is the source of the "once and future king" mythos that was later adopted as a soundbite by 9th and 10th century poets and storytellers. And a further more unbelievable legend says that all these kings is, are, were, and will be the same man. Rudhraighe 06:36, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
