Crafting and multiple infoboxes[edit]

The 'multiple info-boxes in one page' thing has been really seriously overdone for crafting. Please, I'm trying to cut these pages back to one each, please don't add them back. —Torrenal 22:58, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

I see what you mean, if you would take a look at the changes I made to Embroidered Coat page and let me know what you think. Also I made redirects for each type of embroidered coat to the embroidered coat page other than the Mighty Embroidered Coat. Let me know what you think of that page and if it should redirected as well, and if so how will we convey the information for each of the items, not their recipe but the items themselves. The different levels of the items have different defense stats as will as value to the vender, neither of which is displayed on the embroidered coat page.

the symbolic links are a plus, although they may get replaced with real content when everything is said and done, it does save us a few red links now. Thanks for getting them up. Good question on the stats and value. One I think I academic, much like the armor rating or merchant price of a piece of Primeval Armor in GW1 - the merchant value is so far below the component value that if you make it, it's not to sell it to the merchant, and like any level x armor for that profession, the defense and other stats are fixed. GW2 mixes this up a bit by adding a quality component, higher quality items give higher stats for their level, but I'll bet anything that the stats for two items of the same type, level, and quality are the same. That said, that info may need capturing, but the tables don't have room for it. We will likely require separate pages for each recipe, for wiki based database tools if for no other reason. The complete details of the produced item can be listed there. The quandary there is how to list the recipe as a discrete item, apart and different from the recipe which makes it. —Torrenal 23:52, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
I am glad you see the problem we currently face with multiple items having the same name. However I have to wonder why you are set on not using the recipe infobox to display the generic recipe instead of the inline approach. The inline approach may save space but the recipe box in my opinion is cleaner and easier to read.

It's mostly because certain people have objected to the "multiple infoboxes per article" look that {{Item infobox}} and {{Recipe}} give when used together. All we really need to do is to reformat the Recipe template into a less-infobox-ish look - the template will still be necessary in order to make the data accessible to DPL/SMW. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 00:36, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
Seems strange that people would object to using the two templates together, the alternative of using the inline recipe seems harder to read. The recipe box and info box on the same page would allow some one who looks up an item that can be crafted to know from a glance that its a recipe and usable item. As well as making the information easy to read and easy to find on the page. Please take a look at the Mighty Embroidered Coat page, there are three items with the same name that are all crafted by tailors. If I am a wiki user and I type "Mighty Embroidered Coat" I should be presented with all of the relevant information in an easy to read manner.

The problem is not the recipe being in a box, the problem was that it looked too much like the infobox. I agree with you that some sort of boxy/tabular format is better than plain text - like I said, the template just needs some tweaks to look less like an infobox. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 04:22, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
