- I'm not sure what that asura tech was supposed to do, but it did change red-coloured text into blue-coloured text, so congrats! Oh, and a belated welcome to the wiki. G R E E N E R 17:43, 30 March 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for the welcome, G R E E N E R ! By the looks of things, I'm the only active wiki dork that matched my username to my GW2 account name... doh. Live and learn... hopefully faster than forgetting, but I'm getting really good at forgetting. Thanks, also, for your wiki contributions! I hope to get a clue with this stuff and help a little. Jesself 18:26, 30 March 2017 (UTC)
- You could always create a second account named "Jesself", and then move all your pages over there. Also, no need to copy and paste my obtuse signature; just "Greener" or any variant thereof is fine ; ). G R E E N E R 19:03, 30 March 2017 (UTC)
- If my activity here continues, I'll contemplate the effort of shifting to a less dorky account name. Your signature is so purdy I thought it warranted the copy/paste effort at least once. Salude! Jesself 19:07, 30 March 2017 (UTC)
- Get Tanetris or Poke to use Special:RenameUser / Special:UserMerge --Chieftain Alex 19:15, 30 March 2017 (UTC)
- OOOooo... superpowers! I like it! Thanks! Jesself 21:05, 30 March 2017 (UTC)
Anet Q and A[edit]
First, great job on finding that page; I tend to forget where such one-off pages are hiding. Second, that's a damn good question that I'd love to hear the answer to. G R E E N E R 18:25, 7 April 2017 (UTC)
- Incarnazeus clued me in to the Anet Q and A at Talk:Steel_Sword. I was happy to see that one of the 20 irregular naming instances was found and updated so that I didn't have to figure out exactly where to report it, or take credit for any improper page updates. :-) Jesself
Regarding namechange[edit]
Doodle pointed me to your request for a namechange. I'm assuming you want just "Jesself" without the .####? Step one is you need register the new name. Then just go ahead and edit under the new name, and I'll move all your contributions from your old account to the new one and get your userspace pages moved over. For future reference (okay, it's unlikely you'll need this future reference, but for anyone else who happens on this conversation), Guild Wars 2 Wiki:Requests for user merge is the proper venue for making such requests. Which Alex should really know, but Alex is silly.
Asidely, your signature should contain a link to either your userpage or your talk page. Either uncheck the 'Treat signature as wikitext (without an automatic link)' box for your signature in preferences (this shouldn't interfere with your other styling), or put a manual link in yourself. Thankye. - Tanetris (talk) 05:21, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks Tanetris! I finally clued in to my lacking signature earlier today and updated it, so hopefully it's acceptable now. Seldom am I unintentionally stealthy. I'll follow up with the account name effort to purge the dot-num-num-num-num if I manage to continue to contribute to the wiki. Is it just a script you run to merge the accounts, or does it become more difficult as I make more posts? Thanks for the info on where to ask for the account mod - knowing is half the battle, right? (one that I struggle with... so many wiki pages!) Jesself (talk) 05:38, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
- Etiquette inquiry: is my request on Poke's talk page something that is feasible to just undo, since it's not the proper place and is currently the latest post, or is it preferred to leave it and just mention that it should be ignored? Jesself (talk) 05:46, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
- Just write on poke's talk page, "Hey poke, kindly ignore my request. It's being taken care of over at [[Guild Wars 2 Wiki:Requests for user merge]]." Or, in a manner that's more your style. G R E E N E R 05:56, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
Waypoint links[edit]
Hey. Tiny piece of advice with wiki templates for waypoint:
- 1 {{waypoint}} → Used anywhere you need to link to a waypoint. Only produces an icon and a chatlink.
- 0 {{map objective}} → Used on area pages only. Sets some magic properties in the background beyond just displaying an icon and a chatlink.
Basically if you're doing prose, make sure to use Template:Waypoint - if you use the other template by accident, then it sets magic properties on whatever page you used, and then any prose correctly referring to the waypoint with that ID will break, show two links to different pages, and show two chatlinks instead of one.
For what its worth this is a really common mistake made by loads of folks. reference -Chieftain Alex 18:33, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks Chieftain Alex! Greatly appreciate the feedback, and am glad you're able to find these mistakes and provide guidance! I sure appreciate all the work you guys do! Jesself (talk) 00:02, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
- So how come it doesn't say that in the template documentation... (it does now). -- Dagger (talk) 07:36, 5 September 2018 (UTC)
- I would have committed the sin anyway... just found where it looked and acted the way I wanted, then copy/paste. *shrug* Again, sure appreciate the support from you guys!!! Jesself (talk) 01:32, 6 September 2018 (UTC)
- But even if you had checked them, you would still have been none the wiser. I just think it would be nice if people had a way to discover this stuff that was less complicated than reading the template source. (Thinking about it, I wonder if we can make this template detect when it's being used on the wrong type of page and output a warning if so. Maybe by checking for Has location type::Area...) -- Dagger (talk) 10:59, 8 September 2018 (UTC)
