NPC section[edit]

Why are you removing the NPC section on events? Allies and foes are subsections of the "objectives" section on the pages you're removing it from. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 20:40, 25 October 2012 (PDT)

Hey, I am sorry, I got the impression from my reading that that information was no longer required. I will go back and revery them BUT there was often other stuff which was corrected. So may of the events do not have that level of detail, so that seemed to confirm that the data was not needed. Sorry again, Bernardus 20:55, 25 October 2012 (PDT)

Don't be sorry, you're doing a lot of good work. There's the event formatting page if you want to check the template, or discuss changes to it. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 21:19, 25 October 2012 (PDT)

Also, I am marking some events as "Possible deletion due to never seen in many visits to area. I may be wrong but… . Is that OK Bernardus 21:45, 25 October 2012 (PDT)

Eh, some events seem to be fairly rare, I've never seen quite a few of the events in some areas I've completed 3 times. I wouldn't think many events would be cut from BWEs. I'd bring it up on the talk if you feel strongly that it doesn't exist anymore, and if the page was created before the game was released. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 21:51, 25 October 2012 (PDT)
I have marked a few, they seem to be before start date. I ahve gone back as far as I think I started deleting NPCs and a bit further, hope I got them all. Some never had them even though they could do with them to be puristic. However, these I didn't add as, tbh, I can't remember. Bernardus 22:22, 25 October 2012 (PDT)

Events Category[edit]

Hello! Quick question for you - are we not supposed to be using any kind of area-event category when we add events? I was looking at the events formatting, and it didn't mention it one way or another. The reason I'm asking you is I've seen you removing the metrica-events category alot in the recent changes list. Was wondering if I should be doing the same when updating/adding events pages. Thanks! Lyger talk 13:00, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

Hi, I am a relative newb at this. My advice that prompts this is from several of the more experienced members of the wiki community. I am of the impression that the metrica-events category and similar is of historical use and no longer required or useful as the page template automatically links to the metrica category and that is the way to go. I am under the impression that the metric-events page will ultimately disappear.

If you look at a page that has not had it removed, you will see both categories and that is thought unnecessary. So, that's why I have been doing it. Hope this answers your question but a more authoritative answer might be from Dr Ishmael or User:Manifold. I hope that makes it clear, get back to me if you have any other queries, I welcome them as they help me learn too.

Check out the event formatting page Bernardus 20:37, 8 November 2012 (UTC)
Cheers for your answer! I'll keep the category out of my edits going forward. Lyger talk 12:13, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

Newb[edit]

For a "newb," you come across as very well-worded and versed in wiki culture/information. I've been here since the middling days of GWW, and if you didn't assert yourself oft as a newb... well, I think you wear it more of as a badge than anything. XD Welcome to the wiki, formally! —Jyavoc 06:09, 25 November 2012 (UTC)

Thanks, I have a rich vocabulary, it's always more fun to use ordinary words rather than getting verbally abusive (even if I think those thoughts). IMO once you start being rude or cursing then you have lost the argument. But no, I work away at some areas, I am not interested at all in the committee meetings that argue unimportant points and in which people melt their keyboards in rage. I wish I knew where the authoritative stuff was though, it's scattered around and can be very difficult to find. Thanks for the welcome, I am quite happy to be a newb, I never thought of it as an insult. Bernardus 08:33, 25 November 2012 (UTC)
There are just so many discussions all over the wiki that reading every discussion regarding anything is impossible. I've been working my best to move all of that to the GW2W:PP and related, but there's so much and so few of me. Also, I hope you don't think ill of me for the arguments there. I'm generally a much more understanding person. —Jyavoc 03:20, 26 November 2012 (UTC)

A How-to question[edit]

When I previously have uploaded images, I have just clicked a link in a page indicated that the image is missing. But now I have a page but there is no link there. How do I: 1. Upload it to the wiki. 2. Get it on the page. (its a PoI). Thanks in advance. --Hencovic 23:16, 26 December 2012 (UTC)

As far as I know the image has to be named the same as the page. That's what I do. It's got to be of the correct type, I use .jpg. I then upload it, wait for a few seconds for the database to update, then reload the page. Can't be of anymore help as I am a noob at this. Which image/page are you interested in? Bernardus 23:20, 26 December 2012 (UTC)
There's an "upload file" in the side bar if that's what you mean. Bernardus 23:21, 26 December 2012 (UTC)
Heart of the Bear which I recently created. I first used "screenshot" in the top description, but no file-link was created on the page. Changed it to map, but still nothing. Do you mean by creating a new page like this: File:Heart of the Bear.jpg ? Which button in the edit page do I use? REDIT: Oh Open your eyes Hencovic! On the left we have a menu called Upload file, in the Toolbox section... Can be that one, lol! --Hencovic 23:24, 26 December 2012 (UTC)
Have you got a screenshot, if so name it Heart of the Bear.jpg or whatever format it is in. Then click "Upload file" in the wiki side bar, under Tools. This will upload the file, you can change the name etc but if you called it "Heart of the Bear.jpg" - click the other stuff i.e. screen shot.
Then go back to the poi page, in the info box, clear all references to the picture, it will be picked up automatically if it's named as above. Clearer?  :) Bernardus 23:31, 26 December 2012 (UTC)
Yup, done. I had to change it back from map to screenshot in the page, could add a sstext aswell to get a custom text there. But thanks! (Even though I actually solved it myself) --Hencovic 23:34, 26 December 2012 (UTC)
Yay! I just found it. Bernardus 23:35, 26 December 2012 (UTC)

"This wiki ain't big enough for the two of us,"[edit]

said no editor ever. I read through the discussion you started on Konig's talk page, and I do understand that it can be pretty unappealing to participate in a volunteer project when it seems like your work is unappreciated, maybe even disdained sometimes. I've had a few wiki nemeses myself, and they do make it pretty unpleasant to hang around. But if you come back and read this, I ask you to keep two things in mind. First, there are plenty of areas to improve on this wiki, and you can be a part of as many or as few of them as you want. Even if Konig were a diabolical automaton whose only goal was to destroy everything you touched (and he's not), I guarantee that your work itself would have a greater impact than any subsequent edits to it. And that's the second thing to remember- wiki content is created not all at once, but through constant iteration. Your contributions will rarely survive in their original form. Neither will mine, and neither will Konig's. But that doesn't mean any revision is less significant. The wiki gets somewhere in the area of half a million pageviews every day, and any time a person looks at an article you've edited, the information they find there is something you've helped to shape. Contributing to this wiki means influencing thousands of people on a daily basis. How's that for a sense of achievement? Felix Omni Signature.png 21:40, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for your comments. I am the account holder's daughter. I am just closing his account etc. pp Bernardus 00:01, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

I presume one should close an account once someone stops being a member of a group, just trying to find out who/where. pp Bernardus 00:10, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

That's a rather ominous way of putting it. Bernardus ('s daughter), there's no need to close a wiki account; indeed, there's no way to do it. If you (he) are certain you (he) no longer wish(es) to contribute to the wiki, simply don't. Felix Omni Signature.png 09:05, 31 December 2012 (UTC)
