Cleric[edit]
- → moved from Talk:Scholar
Last class is the cleric. I cant remember the link but when one of the designers did a thief gameplay vid he slipped and called the thief the cleric. It just so happens that they were working on the other new class at the same time, meaning its highly likely that is the name of the other one. Also the class must be a scholar and a returning class or deviation of one ( monk in this case.) We were told the last class would be highly controversial and what is more controversial than re-adding a monk-like figure when you have got rid of all healer orientated roles? This means that monk must be playing a support role, which fits as anet have stated there will be two classes for people who like support roles, and the only one that really fits the bill at the moment is the guardian. Sorry I can't remember where the links to the video are, but i'm sure someone will find it. Please feel free to flame me with hate for not suggesting the mesmers comeback, I can't wait to see your glum faces when its not the mesmer that returns. - Elementalist attuned to water is also considered as supportive. Besides that, it is a returning profession, even in name (don't pinpoint me on that). Last, a cleric would be too much Guardian, or too close to the GW1 monk, what is unlikely, because as you said, dedicated healing class is out. -- Cyan 20:52, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
- "he slipped and called the thief the cleric"
- Profession concepts come and go. Guardians were at one point called juggernauts, and warden and marksman profession ideas were also considered.
- "the class must be a scholar and a returning class or deviation of one ( monk in this case.)"
- There are 10 professions in the original trinity of games. Elementalist, necromancer, warrior and ranger are all returning. Paragons and monks have been mixed to create the guardian. Engineers have become the new ritualist (turrets = spirits), and on top of that, ritualists in their original form are far too campaign specific. Thieves are remade assassins (and again, assassins are too campaign specific.) That leaves dervish and mesmer. The dervish isn't even a scholar profession (60 armor max) in the original; there aren't even scythes in this game. On the other hand, something about mind-tricks has been used to describe the next profession and the remaining GDC image (Purple Fan) is immensely reminiscent of a mesmer, in both coloration and style.
- "We were told the last class would be highly controversial and what is more controversial than re-adding a monk-like figure when you have got rid of all healer orientated roles?"
- ArenaNet has said that there will be no designated healer profession. The remaining parts of the monk (protection and smiting) have both be (to one degree or another) reincorporated into guardian.
- "This means that monk must be playing a support role, which fits as anet have stated there will be two classes for people who like support roles, and the only one that really fits the bill at the moment is the guardian"
- Guardians can do support roles, but so can engineers (Med Kit) and water elementalists (Healing Rain).
- In addition, ArenaNet has said that there will be a profession suited to mesmer playstyles. There are so many reasons why monks can't return, and there are an even greater number of reasons as to why mesmers will. You're suited to your own opinion, but in the end, it's still just speculation.
- (Also, the reason for moving this was that we try to avoid having speculation on mainspace talk pages. Those talk pages are to discuss edits to the article.) Aqua (T|C) 21:17, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
- Personally, I don't think so. I don't see how a misspoken word can be tied to the 8th profession at all. Those guys are always testing other games for ideas, so that's where cleric could have come from. Plus, Colin talks all day long at those conventions and his voice was horse and cracky at the panel session. It was just an accident. Cleric also doesn't line up with what anet has already confirmed to be true about the 8th profession. --Moto Saxon 22:09, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
