This information is likely inaccurate — it has not been reviewed or updated since the last BWE.

The are several different ways to increase your storage capacity, but they are difficult to compare due to the different costs involved: real world cash, coin, or gems. You should expect to spend the equivalent of US$0.17 to US$0.50 for each additional slot of storage (based on the current costs for these items).

Overall, the best combination of convenient and economical is to expand your bank tabs. Later, you can add storage toons, but only add bag slots to a character when you are sure that you will be playing it for a long time.

At-a-glance[edit]

I've made several assumptions about equivalent costs that are likely to be wrong when the game is released...and are likely to change frequently during the first few months of play.

Pros & Cons
Bank Tab Expansion 30 600 0 600 $7.50 $0.25 Convenient, since reduces the need to transfer/logout.
Bag Slot Expansion (10-slot bags) 10 400 Silver coin 401 $5.02 $0.50 Risky, should you delete a toon; essential for dungeons.
Bag Slot Expansion (20-slot bags) 20 400 10 Gold coin 2,100 $26.25 $1.31 Surprisingly expensive. If you have that much gold, might be better spent on gems.
Upgrade storage toons 240 0 16 Silver coin 27 $0.34 $0.00 Somewhat risky, as storage toons tend to get re-rolled.
New account 330 0 20 Silver coin 34 $60.00 + $0.43 $0.18 Good value plus, allows you to save items while in a dungeon (via mail system).
Character Slot Expansion 60 800 Silver coin 807 $10.09 $0.17 Cheaper than adding bag slots or bank panes, but much less convenient than either.

Legend[edit]

Alternatives: explained below
Slots:
  • 30 for each new bank tab.
  • 10 for each new bag slot, which assumes you also spend ~1Silver coin to upgrade from an 8-slot (nearly free) to a 10-slot bag.
  • 60 for each storage character, based on 20 backpack slots plus 10 slots each for the four default bag slots (costs ~4 silver).
In-game costs: represents any additional in-game costs to upgrade bags (see below).
Equivalent gem: equivalent number of gems required, assuming each gem costs 1.7Silver coin
Equivalent US$: price in dollars, assuming US$5 buys 400Gem.
Cost / Slot: Dollar cost for each slot. You cannot actually buy slots at this price.

Assumptions[edit]

Assumption Source Notes
1.5Silver coin/Gem BWE #2 prices. During BWE #3, it was closer to 0.5Silver coin/Gem.
80Gem/US$ BWEs (all): 800Gem/US$10 ANet will have to confirm...and it's possible this will vary during the first month or so.
Superior Holding = 10 Gold coin BWEs: they were only avail from vendors It's likely that there will be other sources, but for "early planning purposes," no discounts.
Minor Holding = Silver coin Easily obtained in BWE2 for ~Silver coin Nominal cost is Silver coin 96 Copper coin

Caveats[edit]

  • If you buy bag-slot expansions and delete the toon, you lose the slots.
