Qiff[edit]

I was wrong. Very wrong. In the beginning of the game, I was a full Soldier shout supporting warrior. Hundred Blades clearly did the most damage, but that skill requires you to stand still, which is tricky in a movement-based game. I switched my traits to a 'greatsword berserker' warrior, while still retaining my armor and shouts, to deal more damage. I found out however, that more precision means more crits, which means more might. I switched to full knight to get more toughness and more precision. My damage did improve, but not as much as I hoped (knight means more toughness and less power). As I learned more about the game, I became more and more berserker, dealing more and more damage, while still staying alive.

Old Warrior Berserker build (Dec 2013)[edit]

Sadly (for me), after the recent update, the Greatsword does not have the highest DPS anymore. This is taken over by the Axe/Mace. See this video for more information. The greatsword still deals a lot of damage, and because I have Sunrise, I will keep using the Greatsword. While 100b is on cooldown, though, I can switch to my axe to deal more damage with my chain.

Currently (December 2013), the best warrior DPS build is 30/25/0/0/15, Greatsword + Axe/Mace. Rotation:

  • Pop needed banners, "For Great Justice!", etc.
  • Run to a foe, hitting him with Throw Axe (#3) or Tremor (#5) and evade into them (you deal damage when evading and not full endurance gives you 3% damage boost).
  • Cyclone Axe (#2) and Crushing Blow (#4) for Vulnerability.
  • Switch to Greatsword, Hundred Blades (#2).
  • Use Whirlwind Attack (#3) if you want to evade or if your foe is against a wall.
  • When 100b is on cooldown, switch to your Axe for auto-attack. Make sure to finish the whole chain. End with #2 and #4 (if available).
  • Back to 100b, repeat until everything is powdered into dust.

Always keep track of the trait changes and check forums/Youtube videos about the class that you play. Also, make the build your own. Get used to it, adjust what you don't like, etc. The meta build is not holy, just a good guideline, and things can be changed acording to your own preference.

New Warrior Berserker build (April 2014)[edit]

The warrior, arguably the easiest class to play, has been degraded to absolute brainlessness: the highest DPS build now involves no weapon swapping. Instead, you stay on your greatsword and omnomnom everything. The new trait set-up is now 6/6/0/2/0 or 6/6/0/0/2, depending on your reliance on boons. The second weapon set can be a sword/warhorn to speed up runs or a longbow to create fire fields and blast for might.

Another viable build, with slightly less DPS, is the axe/mace axe/sword build. The trait set-up is again the same (change your GS traits to axe traits). The off-hand sword is mainly used for blocking, but the extra torment damage is not bad.

Movement[edit]

Conclusion: movement is the key. If you manage to stay alive by avoiding damage rather than soaking it, the limiting factor will become your DPS. So try to deal as much damage as you can permit yourself. Do not forget that there is food that boosts your endurance gain and food that gives health on crit. It can be the difference between life and death.
