Redirect[edit]

Is it possible for someone with the know-how to make the search term "daily catch" redirect here?~Miss Lana (talk) 12:42, 12 March 2022 (UTC)

Add #REDIRECT [[Taro Everclaw]] on the page Daily catch. See Help:Redirect. --Tolkyria (talk) 13:21, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
I've added the redirect as there's value in the search term existing. Below in Daily Catch section I've surfaced for discussion finding a more prominent feature location for the daily catch. Distillia (talk) 23:07, 13 March 2022 (UTC)

Daily Catch[edit]

With the additional datapoints and the multiple repeated requests, it's looking like the Daily Catch is random instead of a scheduled rotation. However, every ask HAS been a Rare fish which gives us a somewhat manageable list of 53 fish to put... somewhere. Hindbrain (talk)

Should we surface the Daily Catch to a more accessible location? Thinking similar to guild wars 1 wiki main page, which has a section dedicated to 'Latest in-game activities' The similarity for the fishmonger being Nicholas Sandford.
Maybe when the list is automated, of course. Distillia (talk) 04:35, 13 March 2022 (UTC)
Is it just today or does the daily catch always correlate with daily fishing region? Stancer (talk) 17:53, 14 March 2022 (UTC)
They could be connected, I will track this to see if they always match. Gorla (talk) 18:19, 14 March 2022 (UTC)
Do we have a track of the fishing dailies since release? Stancer (talk) 18:43, 14 March 2022 (UTC)
The best I can offer is a list of dailies and their date when the first got whitelisted in the API:
  • 2022-03-07 (6492) Daily Heart of Maguuma Fisher
  • 2022-03-06 (6067) Daily End of Dragons Fisher
  • 2022-03-05 (6427) Daily Desert Fisher
  • 2022-03-04 (6286) Daily Shiverpeaks Fisher
  • 2022-03-03 (6364) Daily Maguuma Jungle Fisher
  • 2022-03-02 (6297) Daily Kryta Fisher
  • 2022-03-01 (6501) Daily Ascalon Fisher
--Tolkyria (talk) 21:45, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
Thanks, only hits with March 3, 4 and 6 where Fisher and Catch are from the same region. Not sure what it means (documentation error previously or no relation at all?), I guess more info needed for a conclusion. Gorla (talk) 22:44, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
Even after one month there is no visible pattern, although it's kinda hard to believe that they choose the fish randomly, maybe the rotation is one year?!
Whatever, since the table gets longer and longer every day, should we only display the current daily catch and hide the previous daily catches behind a collapsible sub-table? In this case we would probably use a template to avoid unnecessary and tedious shifting of the class="expandable". --Tolkyria (talk) 07:46, 31 March 2022 (UTC)
There are 50 rare fish, so I guess it won't show any pattern soon. So far their fishing locations/continents don't show any pattern yet (I track that too). I agree with the table changes, only the current one is enough to be shown. Gorla (talk) 09:13, 31 March 2022 (UTC)
It seems there is a partial pattern in a 14 days period that the continent selection fixed. Everything else is still seems to be randomly chosen. See my sandbox page for further info. Gorla (talk) 12:29, 18 June 2022 (UTC)

Feedback 2022/03/15[edit]

The new build seems to have changed the daily catch. The page lists petrifish for March 15, but in game I was able to trade in pufferfish after the March 15 update.

I re-added the Petrifish with a note about the change. It seems that the above discussion stands that the Daily Fisher (today is Daily Ends of Dragons Fisher) is connected to the Daily Catch, as the rare fish is randomly chosen from End of Dragons regions. Gorla (talk) 21:27, 15 March 2022 (UTC)

Feedback 2022/04/23[edit]

Taro accepts the required 'Daily' fish from the bank. In other words, the needed fish does not have to be in Inventory. Also, for me, the Daily listed has not always been accurate (including on days with no update). --Inculpatus cedo (talk) 00:14, 24 April 2022 (UTC)

Do you have specific data (fish, UTC time checked) for the inaccuracies? The documented ones are correct, as I check it once a day at least, if I can manage it is right after server reset. I know that some before/after update changes were not documented, but I guess there is nothing incentive about this for people to check it. Gorla (talk) 07:16, 24 April 2022 (UTC)

Feedback 2022/08/30[edit]

I think there's another changed fish, but I'm not sure if there was an update. Current page shows Sheatfish, but Taro's looking for Sockeye. Quazarjim (talk) 04:36, 31 August 2022 (UTC)

Thanks, the page not yet updated for today's reset. ~Sime 04:40, 31 August 2022 (UTC)

Feedback 2023/07/15[edit]

I wanted to comment and I tried to edit the article badly I fear, that all saltwater fish are not excluded from what Taro Everclaw will take for the daily fish. Some Saltwater fish he askes for. As an example, mudskippers, largemouth bass, giant barb and rainbow trout. I deleted these based on the article and edited the bit under notes, but was unable to do the chart).

I'm confused by what you're saying here. None of the fish you listed are saltwater fish. 75.186.112.189 10:23, 4 August 2023 (UTC)

Statistics Daily Fish Release EOD until 27.09.2024[edit]

I am working at the moment on my fishing titles - did not bother earlier - and was interested, whether the distribution is truly random. I cannot be sure of course, but it seems so. Since Release there have been 949 different fish, Taro Everclaw wanted. On some days it changed outside of reset, because of an update, hence more fish than days. The average per fish available (32 possibilities) would be 29.656. THis is the actual distribution:

Janthir Daily Catch[edit]

since Janthir map offer for the difference fish, while giving more or less reward depend on fish rarity. and "Daily catch" seem important (currently redirect to this NPC). Is it better to make Daily catch page itself? easier for people to look for and easier for editor. And adjust {{template:daily catch table v2}} to support Janthir. with Rarity and Vendor column. --Tery3065 (talk) 16:15, 2 October 2024 (UTC)

Agreed with creating a page for all npcs with similar mechanics under Daily catch. ~Sime 16:27, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
