Reformat[edit]

While I think it is great that you can click on the names of the items, the blue/purple text on orange really doesn't work. It looks bad and is hard to read. I think something needs to be done about that, but I don't know what. --166.250.16.97 08:12, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

apologies but it's the Default infobox that is at fault Rudhraighe 08:20, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
The infobox shouldn't be used here, mostly because of the auto-categorization. This page should be converted to tables somehow. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 12:59, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
Is this any Better ?? or at least in the right direction ?? Rudhraighe 08:18, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
This is basiclly how I would have done it, but you were faster. There is one thing however I would have done different. I think it would be better, if the last three coloums would always be Soulbound, Unused Upgrade Slot and Value. So that the Table format would be a bit more consistent. This would also solve the engineer deviation with the backpack. - Yandere 12:33, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
I don't think most of the data in these tables are very useful at all.
  • Rarity is always Common.
  • Req. Level is always 0, which is obvious because these are for new characters.
  • Value is always 1 bronze.
  • Soulbound doesn't matter, because there's no point in trading these items.
  • Armor class is known from the profession type - soldiers by definition wear heavy armor, no need to state that for every item in the tables.
  • Weapon slot is known from the weapon type.
Probably the only necessary things to keep are slot and defense for armor, and strength for weapons. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 16:03, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for your input, i am not a master at wiki editing yet and am still learning, any help is appreciated. The Req. level on the Spearguns is 1 however, not all items can be sold to a vendor, the Non Soulbound items {none of the weapons are soulbound} can be traded, moved to and equipped on other characters {ie. the Universal Multitool Pack can be equipped on any character on your account and provide an early and extra Upgrade Slot.png Unused Upgrade Slot}, or sold (for skin or novelty value) at the trading post, the armor class is important to know what other characters on your account can equip the items {it is possible to equip any head or shoulder gear to any other profession within the same class, for example my ranger wears the engineer's Eagle Eye Goggles and looks good doing so ;) and my guardian has a matching set of shoulders and helmet that i will probably Transmute with level 80 stats.}, and weapon slots can be main hand, off hand, or either for some classes and again can be traded to other characters. But i do agree that the rarity is always common but i felt it necessary to include in keeping with the information that we provide in armor and weapon infoboxes. Basically i tabeled the entire item infobox to prevent any confusion or the need to do further research on the item more extensively thereby providing the effect of an 'at a glance' presentation. if you feel that the category headings would be better served from rearranging within the tables please feel free to make improvements, this is a community collaboration after all and no one person can do it alone. a sincere thank you. Rudhraighe 16:49, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
I removed the information about Value, Rarity and Level Requirement from the tables. The information is still in the article however in the first two sentences after starting equipment. Soulbound is an interesting information. I actually didn't knew that some of the items were in fact not Soulbound. The interesting part about the armor is that most of the time the profession dictates the armour type, but again the engineer backpack can be used by any class, which is also interesting to know. The unused upgrade slots are also interesting. By the way what is the diffrence between level requirement 0 and 1? - Yandere 07:48, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
Practically, level requirement of 0 or 1 makes no difference, since new characters are level 1, not level 0.
I hadn't thought about that usage of "trading" armor with yourself, I think I might give my necro a Fanged Dread mask now. Still, the biography headgear are the only items that aren't soulbound, so if this could be made clear in the text in an acceptable manner, it could still be removed from the tables.
The upgrade slot is another one that follows a pattern - all weapons have one, and nothing else except the engineer's backpack. This should definitely be converted to a textual note. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 13:05, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
I edited the article so most of the information can now be found in the few sentences before the table of content. The thing engineers backpack is now a note.
And to come back to the 1 or 0 level requirement. Is this really in the game or is this a transscription error?
If everything is ok now, can we remove the clean-up and the stub tag? - Yandere 16:13, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
I trust Rudhraige's (how do you pronounce that, anyway?) transcription, so it's probably just an inconsistency that arose over time (IIRC, in the early GW1 betas you started at level 0, and completing a very short intro quest would advance you to level 1 - it's possible they tried something like that with GW2 at one time, and these items still reflect that). Regardless, the difference is unimportant.
I think it looks good now. There are a couple more things I'd probably change, but they're pretty minor and I've already nit-picked enough. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 16:21, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
Weapons are NOT Soulbound, and Town Clothing CANNOT be sold (just a short note between appointments). PS. (Rud` RAige very fast) my close friends call me Rory, gamer's on vent or tS call me Rud, opponents call me Rude! ;) PPS friends tend to ask about the origin and meaning of the name and approve heartily. Rudhraighe 19:18, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
I updated the article to reflect this input. I believe the Starter Backpack can not be sold either, so I put this in, too. I will look this up during headstart, but I guess we will have to update some of the articles after release anyway. - Yandere 22:46, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
The Starter Backpack is the only thing i did not think test until after i woke up on Monday with a gaming hangover;0 either to move or sell you probably need a bag equipped to attempt to even remove it, if that is even possible. if it can be removed it may provide a better info box either value or soulbound. i attempted to move it to the bank at one point without success but i did not attempt to unequip it first. i would be interested to know 1) can it be unequipped. 2) if so does it have value or soulbound. 3) can it be placed in the bank vault and equipped on another character (exploit??) it is one item i would mark [verification requested] at this point. i spent most of my time over all 5 beta and stress events working on the level 0-1 equipment, bio, controls, and Jeweler and Chef crafting. Rudhraighe 03:32, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
The Starter Backpack Can be unequipped and placed in account storage BUT it is soulbound and has no value "A 20 slot bag for beginning characters.— In-game description" Equipped discription: "0 / 20 Slots Full". Rudhraighe 03:01, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

So the equipment biography option is just visual?[edit]

Looking at the stats, seems the equipment biography option doesn't matter at all (If it's true it doesn't affect personal story, too). Should we note it somewhere?--Lon-ami 16:39, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

Many Players will argue "SKINS ARE EVERYTHING!!!" me however i just worry about the "Stats". But Sadly we must cater to both, so things must stand with the illusion of importance. besides the Engineer can opt for a non Defense item that has no armor but instead provides an Upgrade Slot.png Unused Upgrade Slot (that is currently broken by the way.). Rudhraighe 16:53, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
Helmet vs Shoulder for Guardian and Warrior, there are a large number and variety of early lev 1-10 helmets, BUT you do not get any shoulder armor you can use until after you have reached level 15. Rudhraighe 13:43, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

Proper Capitalization[edit]

Looking at the guidelines for capitalization I think this article has probably some sentinces, which do not follow this guideline. As a non-native speaker I am probably not the best person to check for proper capitalization. So I would be thankful, if someone could check this, instead of me. - Yandere 04:29, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

Unused Upgrade Slot[edit]

I build template for the unused upgrade slots. It is the first time I am doing this and this is the first page I used this on, so I would be gradeful for feedback. [[Template:Unused_Upgrade_Slot]] - Yandere 08:33, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

Is it possible for the template to link to a page Upgrade Slot that would further explain what it is, what it does, how it acts on different items, and what can be slotted into it, and at what levels,.... and all the information we can find on Upgrade Slot.png ??? oh and Btw the icon is not only used for unused slots but used to indicate the presence of any slot that can be modified as well ie. Garnet Copper Stud). Rudhraighe 11:48, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
Yes it is possible and the template now links to this page. - Yandere 12:08, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
Thank you btw did you change the template to ' upgrade slot ' ?? Oh and i just uploaded a icon to Upgrade slot.png when i first uploaded the image i was unaware of the use for it to also indicate USED slots . Rudhraighe 12:13, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
At the moment the template is called Unused Upgrade Slot. It has this as mouse-over text, but links to the side Upgrade slot. Just tell me a fuw things:
  • How sould the template be named?
  • Which picture should I use?
  • What should be diplayed by mouse-over?
  • To which page do you want a redirect?
Then I can rearrenge this. And by the way did I got this right, used and unused upgrade slot share the same icon? - Yandere 12:35, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
we currently use the same identical icon to indicate an Upgrade Slot of ANY kind that is either unused or is currently in use; (but can be changed with another upgrade) (see: Garnet Copper Stud. the generic name for the template can be Upgrade Slot and the mouse over should be the same as the template name and the article page name and it should click link to a page named the same also. I am bad with the tiny policy details of wiki capitalization format be it Upgrade Slot , Upgrade slot or upgrade slot so please use your best judgement as i'm of no use there ;) and i'll abide by your decision. as for the icon picture it might be best to use the old original one and i can /have deleted the one i just uploaded today as there are waaay too many pages that use it now. and again with the page i just don't know what letters to capitalize but the page should be the same as all the preceding Usually the template usage would be
{{upgrade slot}}
and once everything is done a request will need to be made for a BOT program to do a entire wiki find/replace after the page is started (if you can start the Upgrade Slot page i can assist by adding pointers about what little i do remember from the beta's about Upgrade Slots). sincerely and supportively, and Thank you for your good hard work Rudhraighe 13:07, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
Ok, I have made this article Template:Upgrade_slot which results in this Icon Upgrade Slot.png by using:
{{Upgrade slot}}
I marked the old one for speedy deletion. We should replace all articles where this picture is linked directly. The article Upgrade_slot currently doesn't exist and I think you have much more knowledge aout this than I do. Well, I thinks this works for now. - Yandere 13:22, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

Soulbound change August 10 2012[edit]

The items you receive from your Biography Profession question and all other armor and items are Soulbound except for Weapons. Rudhraighe 13:38, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

Transmuting equipment.[edit]

Does the Note stating that starter equipment can still be transmuted for use on other account characters still apply? If all (armor) pieces are soulbound by default, it seems unusual that they could then be made "Account Bound" instead through transmutation. ninestories (talk) 18:00, 26 June 2013 (UTC)
