Drop Rate WTF[edit]

Just salvaged 2 exotics and no dark was lvl 78 and one was lvl 80. The lvl 80 was a named exotic too. Usaf1a8xx (talk) 01:05, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

It's similar to ecto. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 02:34, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
Confirmed 0 to 3 just like ecto. It is possible to get both ecto and dark matter from the same salvage too. Unindal (talk) 04:09, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
I must be horribly unlucky then cuz I salvaged 6 exotics now and have only got dark matter back from 1 of them, for a total of 2 dark matter out of 6 exotics...terrible drop rate or terrible luck. Usaf1a8xx (talk) 04:25, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
I once salvaged 10 exotics in a row and got 0 ecto. That's RNG. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 05:27, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
I got 3 from the first exotic I salvaged a day and none for all other exotics on the same day (for two days in a row, but I hope that's just coincidence)
Just did 40 exotics for 11 dark matter, that's absurd. 08:10, 28 September 2013 (UTC)
Got 8 dark matter out of 4 named level 80 exotics using Black Lion Salvage Kits - In order of salvaging chained (3, 0, 2, 3) Fyrye (talk) 07:05, 15 December 2013 (UTC)
I've not counted how many exotics I had but I've salvaged them for 30 ectos (Some may be from rares, 10:20 or 15:!5). No dark matter seen yet. At all. 20:23, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
6 exotics (lvl80) = 5 dark matter for me. 04:57, 29 March 2014 (UTC)
16 exotics (lvl80) = 0 dark matter for me 08/17/14 The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talkcontribs).
15 exotics (lvl 80 - 9 crafted, 6 dungeon token traded) and only 1 glob of dark matter. The crafted could be sold for 2g min each so that ascended weapon I want is rapidly increasing in price :(
16 exotics all from random drops and a total of 2 globs of dark matter, but getting ectos at the same rate, on the bright side 4 insignias
Please update drop rate, it has been nerfed at some point and require more research again. 125 salvages using a mystic tool kit on draconic boots, I received 22 globs of dark matter. I know I am unlucky with RNG, but still...

Does the quality of the salvage kit matter? If someone knows, please put the information on the page. Owoc (talk) 17:58, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

It's likely the same as ectos, but entirely possible its different to match ascended weapon crafting. You will have to wait for spading and/or start a research page.--Relyk ~ talk < 18:51, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
Top row is 100 exotics salvaged with crude kits, bottom is 100 exotics salvaged with master kits. This data was taken on the edge of the mists test server, though, so it isn't necessarily the same on live... but I see no reason for them to have changed it there. I salvaged 4x each with each kit: Full berserker's draconic armor, full berserker's pearl weapon set for warrior, ruby orichalcum amulet, rings, and earrings. Pie Formation (talk) 05:23, 17 December 2013 (UTC)
I also notice a marked increase in dark matter when using black lion kits vs master kits, such that I now only salvage exotics with black lion kits. Psycho Robot (talk) 18:55, 17 December 2013 (UTC)
I conducted some drop rate research on 1/22/2014, using 50 Cleric's Emblazoned Coats, one Black Lion Salvage Kit, and one Master's Salvage Kit. The Master's Kit yielded 11 Dark Matter, 27 Ecto, and 104 Hardened Leather Sections. The BL Kit yielded 24 Dark Matter, 36 Ecto, and 111 Hardened Leather Sections. Bottom line: BL kit yields twice the dark matter, may or may not have an effect on Ecto yield (small sample size, someone else can run the exact statistics), and likely has no effect on material yield. Rhiannon (talk) 16:55, 22 February 2014 (UTC)
I used a Mystic Salvage Kit on Draconic Helms as they were cheapest at the time and got no Dark Matter, switch to Black Lion Kit and got 1 -2 per item salvaged. Lady Elyssa (talk) 23:10, 20 January 2014 (UTC)

Exotic Source[edit]

I was looking around the web and read somewhere that crafted exotics had a lower glob drop rate than named exotics. After having salvaged (wasted) 10 crafted exotic daggers and getting no globs, I tried salvaging a dungeon weapon and got 3 globs on my first try. That is a very small sample, however I'm not wealthy enough to test this meaningfully. Can anyone wealthier than me test whether the exotic's source: Crafted, Named (drop), or Dungeon merchant, has an effect on the glob drop rate? My salvaging was done using a mystic salvage kit. 04:22, 18 September 2014 (UTC)

All anecdotal evidence. There is no reason that the source should have any effect on the salvage rates. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 12:06, 18 September 2014 (UTC)

"NOTE: Salvaging character must be 80th level." Umm .. salvaged with level 43 char and got one.

I'll revert the edit. I have 2 on my other account without any level 80s. Tyndel (talk) 22:07, 15 September 2015 (UTC)
No problem. I must have just had really bad luck. (15 salvages and 0 globs.) Daddicus (talk)

Also in Fluctuating Mass[edit]

These also drop from a Fluctuating Mass. I've only seen it once, and only received one. But, I don't know how to change it on this page. (I changed, though.)Daddicus (talk) 06:12, 1 June 2017 (UTC)

Adding it to that page automatically adds it here. It just takes some time for the server to notice it and change it on this page, unless you hit the refresh button at the top of the page (not the browser refresh), which I did, and thus it is now here --Gimmethegepgun (talk) 06:58, 1 June 2017 (UTC)
Great! Thanks!Daddicus (talk) 16:12, 1 June 2017 (UTC)

Gear = Armor and Weapon only[edit]

Salvaged several rings and amulets with BLSK and got no dark matter. Anyone else confirm trinkets are useless for dark matter? -- Shena'Fu (talk) 00:54, 13 December 2018 (UTC)

Has there been a change in drop rate?[edit]

We're doing a test now, but at first glance, it appears to have dropped dramatically from the ~1 per BL salvage posted on the main page. We're 0 for 8 so far tonight.

Can anybody else test a few and see if it's a real change or just bad luck? Thanks! Daddicus (talk) 02:14, 8 September 2019 (UTC)

It was just randomness. No worries. Daddicus (talk) 01:26, 9 September 2019 (UTC)
