Specific Runes from Specific NPCs?[edit]

I strongly suspect that specific runes are dropped by specific enemies. I've been grinding Jahai Bluff mobs as of late to get a complete set, specifically the branded griffons to the west and above of Venta Pass Waypoint, from which I got a Rune of the Wind. Afterwards, I was hunting for a Rune of the Vine from them. I'd enter the map, hunt griffons, not get what I needed, leave, then come back some time later. I was focusing mainly on the griffons and avoiding other mobs, namely jacarandas because they're so annoying. But just now, after a jacaranda knocked me down while passing through, putting me in combat and preventing me from mounting and moving faster, I got annoyed and decided to fight back- and it dropped the Rune of the Vine I needed. Yes, this is anecdotal, but unless the drop rate and RNG is just really messing with me while I farm for specific runes, I really think that certain mobs drop certain runes, and easily too. I'll be hunting for a complete set in the next few days. --Messenger (talk) 15:09, 23 October 2019 (UTC)

Tallied specific runes with which NPCs dropped them. Myth busted. The runes don't drop from specific mobs. --Messenger (talk) 03:41, 20 November 2019 (UTC)

I can confirm at least all the runes other than Wind have dropped for me when farming the Chalk in the middle of the map. However I swear something is bugged for me as I caught the other 4 runes within 15-20min, then couldn't get the final rune of the Wind even after another 20min. Then I threw away the 4 runes I had and collected them all again within 15-20min but still couldn't get Wind even after another 20min of playing. I repeated this yet another time, and also played randomly on the map for a couple hours, still could not get Wind. - Dracx (talk) 02:54, 28 September 2021 (UTC)

I think the rune also won't drop if it's already in its place in front of the door. (Which it could be since they don't ever despawn/reset, so if you've placed one there before it should still be there.) Though while i'm pretty sure that's the case i'm not certain of it either. If you don't mind could you possibly have a look in Sun's Refuge and report back if it's already in its place? Because if it is then they probably truly do not drop again while already slotted and it could be added to the article. And if not then adding a bug notice instead might not be a bad idea. I confirmed I didn't have anything placed in Sun's Refuge. After putting in the other 4 runes, I now no longer get any runes even after around 20min of killing. I'm hoping the weekly reset might help me here. Dracx (talk) 04:31, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
Hm.. that's weird then. I'm actually also missing only one rune anymore at the moment but didn't recall more than it being the second from the left (when facing the door). I've checked which it is now and it seems that it is wind too so this might just truly be bugged. Thank you for checking! I'll add a bug note. (Even though i'm not quite sure how to word it.) Cool thanks, good to know I'm not the only one. I just submitted a bug in-game for this, pretty much repeating what I described above. Dracx (talk) 05:02, 28 September 2021 (UTC)

I got 4 runes except seed in chak area. then went to argon garrison and got seed from there. in total it took around half an hour. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Leo Xander (talk) at 05:39, 3 October 2021‎ (UTC).

I got 4 except Thorn in Argon Garrison, then found Thorn in Jungle Anomaly. It does seem like some of them are mob/location-based. I've updated the note on the page. --Ghosty Starfire (talk) 16:12, 6 September 2023 (UTC)
