Weapon skills[edit]

Any thoughts on whether the Trident/Harpoon gun/Spear skills should be marked as Underwater only? -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 11:37, 11 January 2020 (UTC)

The initial purpose was: "This text property indicates whether a healing, utility, or elite skill is usable in underwater mode."" and in my opinion it still is, e.g. used in {{slot skill table row}}.
Regarding the weapons (for me your suggestion would the also imply to set land weapons to Land only) in my opinion it's more a default value to allow proper searching and sorting, e.g. explicit searching, negation and still get all skills as result. It's rarely used in {{weapon skill table row}}, e.g. bundles or transform skills.
Therefore, I think it's not a matter of changing the set property value for the weapons but to change the property value names, i.e.
  • Land and UnderwaterDefault
  • Land only
  • Underwater only
where Default stands for: it applies to land and/or underwater depending on the context of the current skill.
E.g. a Trident skill with Is usable underwater = Default means that it can be, due of the context, only used underwater; a slot skill with Default: it can be used on land and underwater.
This will also fit to the concept of the skill table rows template that uses:
{{#switch: {{{?Is usable underwater}}}
| Land only=[[File:Not available underwater.png|20px|link=Underwater mode#Underwater skills|Not available underwater]]
| Underwater only=[[File:Underwater.png|link=Underwater mode#Underwater skills|Underwater skill]]
}}
If we set the weapon land/underwater property as suggested above, the skill table row templates would display lots of unnecessary and clear by context land icons (i.e. red cross underwater) or underwater icons. --Tolkyria (talk) 12:50, 11 January 2020 (UTC)
On the other hand ... I asked this question over two month ago on my talk page and still haven't satisfyingly answered it yet; but since you are bringing this topic up again ... let's do this (and ignore my previous suggestion above). As you proposed, I now agree on the following:
  1. Set in the skill infobox for slot = weapon this property to Land only or Underwater only based on mainhand, offhand or twohand.
  2. Set in the skill infobox for slot = mechanic this property to Land only or Underwater only based on mechanic weapon (used for warrior Burst and Primal Burst skills).
  3. In the template {{weapon skill table row}} do not display the underwater icon for skill context "Weapon".

Lol I wasn't actually proposing anything, it was genuinely a question because I was puzzled when underwater weapon skills appeared in my query.
I'm fine with any solution or even no changes at all, but I'm agreeable to your latest response. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 00:05, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
Done. See here. --Tolkyria (talk) 00:21, 13 January 2020 (UTC)
