Help talk:Archiving

Can we start archiving/marking for archive talk data from prior to the release of the game? There's much speculation from prior to release about different topics (Asura Gate Talk Page for example). Dargus 01:29, 10 December 2012 (UTC)

A bot could probably do that.--Relyk 04:23, 10 December 2012 (UTC)

Should...[edit]

Should Archived pages not be messed with? I have noticed members and new sysops messing with old things that were clearly marked Archived. I was under the impression that was left up to the bureaucrats and owners. I don't feel comfortable with members and others messing with things without a reason. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 174.223.2.159 (talk).

Generally they should be left alone, but sometimes it's necessary to edit them; for example, to remove links that no longer lead anywhere so they don't show up on Special:WantedPages. By the way, don't forget that you can sign your comments with four tildes: ~~~~ --Idris (talk) 08:42, 26 August 2017 (UTC)
If the spirit of the conversation can be followed (links are trivial parts of conversations compared to the thoughts and words expressed), then I don't see a problem with wrapping broken links with nowiki. The only type of red link I would not be happy removing would be links to non-existent user talk pages.
Also, if you're going to go all wiki-lawyer, please sign your comments. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 09:51, 26 August 2017 (UTC)
We entrust the general clean-up of the wiki to our sysops.
To address your concerns, I looked into what has happened on your archived pages:
  • User talk:Ariyen/Archive2009 - In 2016, SarielV (not a sysop) removed red-links to a .gif that was deleted back in 2010 for being a copyright violation. I have no problems with either action.
  • User talk:Ariyen/Archive2010 - SarielV did the same on this page, but to an image that you had requested be deleted, which it was in 2011. J.A.R.V.I.S., a bot run by Doodleplex, later cleaned up the file names of a signature image used by The Holy Dragons. I have no problems with any of these action.
  • User talk:Ariyen - Not an archive, but I looked into it. J.A.R.V.I.S. again cleaned up the file names of an signature image, this time used by El Nazgir. I have no problem with this action.
If I have missed any archives which you are concerned about, please let me know. Otherwise I do not see where any issue exists. G R E E N E R 18:13, 26 August 2017 (UTC)
