Guild Wars 2 Wiki talk:Armor gallery formatting

Why have the file name formatted like that? Either have just dashes or just spaces between each word.--Relyk ~ talk > 23:52, 6 March 2013 (UTC)

My original reasoning was the dashes help readability, but I'm coming to think that's not actually an issue and that it's fine just to have spaces. pling User Pling sig.png 23:57, 6 March 2013 (UTC)
I like the dashes, it doesn't make sense as a sentence when trying to read the filenames. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 00:01, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
A delimiter other than a space is ideal since the armor set name contains spaces. A dash is suitable.--Relyk ~ talk > 00:10, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
Surely only 1 dash would be necessary, then. Filenames shouldn't need to read like sentences in any case. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 01:09, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
You mean File:Ascalonian Catacombs armor-light-human female-front.jpg? I think it'd be fine as just File:Ascalonian Catacombs armor light human female front.jpg pling User Pling sig.png 16:15, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
I meant File:Ascalonian Catacombs armor - light human female front.jpg — since Relyk's point was about spaces in the armor name, the dash would separate the armor name from the image identifiers. I'd be fine with no dashes, too. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 16:23, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
I agree it should be fine without dashes since "armor" is appended and acts as the natural end to the armor set name.--Relyk ~ talk > 23:22, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Another day, another style[edit]

What do you think of Ascalonian Performer armor now? I saw Winged armor#Gallery and thought it look much nicer. In the previous version of AC armor, there were gaps between the front/back/left/right images because the image widths differ for other races; now there's some neatness to each table.

Also, I created Template:Armor gallery. pling User Pling sig.png 16:53, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

About the template; you've already declared using the heading "Asura" that they're asura - we don't really need to state the race again. Same goes for the "ascalonian catacombs armor" bit - the page title says that. Maybe the gender is the only thing you need to mention in the table title. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 17:17, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
I put the set name and link in the table because when we do the "User:Pling/Sandbox/Armour/Character" stuff, "gallery" will link to the appropriate section, and the table's set-name link will make it easier to get to the set page. (Also, it means the template can be used meaningfully in other pages, e.g. userpages or whatever.) pling User Pling sig.png 17:26, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
I prefer the race-split tables a lot more than the combined super table (also for accessibility reasons). One thing I dislike is the alt text for the image links being “click to enlarge/edit”. It should be more explaining what it is displaying—or not displaying. poke | talk 22:27, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
Clicking on an image to "enlarge" it or edit it - that's the default functionality of images in MediaWiki. To me, it feels redundant to be restating that, moreso than being non-explanatory. But both are good reasons to change it. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 22:32, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
What do you think about "front side", etc? (See the page now.) pling User Pling sig.png 23:54, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
Would it be possible for both Armor and Weapons to use a 3D Model Gallery? Such as on GW2DB? Do those exist in the .dat or are they built by the gw2db website? Smoke (talk) 13:18, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
They're built by Curse employees whose job is to reverse-engineer video games. (GW2DB isn't the first game database they've built.) —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 13:56, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
