Revert to lower quality[edit]

So why was this reverted exactly? Seems to me like the second image was nicer showing night/day scenarios and was of higher quality. -Darqam (talk) 15:39, 19 May 2016 (UTC)

I don't 100% know why, I'd guess because most of the other footstep images don't need to use a split images(really only the auras need that and The Moot has a split image because it's a discoball so lol) and the bottom part of the split image really didn't show the steps. I can crop it out to just have the top part, as that part I agree is a bit nicer, unless somebody can either take a better picture/disagrees/something. - Doodleplex 16:50, 19 May 2016 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) Pride and delusions, I assume. Seriously though, I second your comment, Darqam, the previous image is superior to this one. Albeit I prefer shots in better locations and most importantly the right lighting, and without other equipment worn. However, anything is better than images with those GemFX, SweetFX or whatever filters. This is a wiki, not Instagram or whatever the selfie-generation is into these days -- keep this kind of screenshots on GW2 Style or /r/GuildWarsDyeJob or Tumblr. We should want to document things as they are represented in game and not falsified or "prettified" by third-party programs. User Incarnazeus Signature.pngtalk 16:57, 19 May 2016 (UTC)
Ok, I've reverted the change for now; of our 2 options this is the better one. This is not to say an even better picture would not be welcome of course. -Darqam (talk) 17:02, 19 May 2016 (UTC)
Two question is for a better picture though, do we need the person in the picture, as it really is just an image of the steps, which is what I see in the majority of the other legendary step pictures. And second, would a split picture be needed? I feel like we don't really need a day/light and night/dark picture as any legendary footstep is going to be brighter at night than during the day. I have a guildmate who has the weapon, so I think I can ask her to run with it so I can get the pictures, but I want to make sure I get what's needed. - Doodleplex 17:12, 19 May 2016 (UTC)
I don't think we 'need' the character in the picture, but I think it would look quite strange to show a weapon trail without it's character origin point. I also don't believe a split picture is needed; something in a darker area (so we see it best) should be enough. -Darqam (talk) 17:18, 19 May 2016 (UTC)
@Doodleplex: In my opinion, showing at least a part of the character (but primarily the weapon and the trail) is okay in case of the trail. As for the footsteps, a character would be redundant. Split images are unnecessary, I'd say.
I recommend the Eye of the North for taking images of footsteps or any other kind of floor-dependent graphics since the tiles there are not that distracting and contrast such bright effects nicely (plus the lighting is decent there). The snowflakes are a bit annoying though. User Incarnazeus Signature.pngtalk 17:31, 19 May 2016 (UTC)
