This page contains so much speculation..... (and some wrong infos)[edit]

...I think it' s not even worth making it. By the way, any character starts with 5 slots and can gain 3 additional bag slots via gem stores. I think the page should mention that it would cost 1200 gems to max out inventory slot, and that slots are unlocked per character. Greetings. CaiusTheBig User talk:Caiusthebig 23:16, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure you start with 1 bag and 4 bag slots (total of 5) and can buy 2 extra bagslots via gemstore (total of 7 bags). This page states that you start with 4 slots, including the starter bag and can buy 3 more (again, total of 7). I will check upon this next beta event.--84.62.116.106 09:52, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
When Caius posted, the information was a lot less accurate. It's been updated several times in the 10 days since. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 20:25, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

Merge[edit]

I say no to a merge, for the following reasons:

  • Packs, Bags, and Boxes are made by different crafting disciplines, and therefore should have distinct pages for each.
  • Packs, Bags, and Boxes have different special attributes and therefore different names and recipes
  • Trying to put all those variations into one chart will be muddled and confusing.

I agree that there should be a page that talks about storage bags in general, one that links to the different crafting page for Pack, Bag (crafting), and Box (crafting). Wombatt 05:52, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

I don't see the value: the recipes are near identical, save for the refined mats. Why make people read three pages (or four) when they can just one? – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:22, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
Why make a leatherworker slog through all the non-associated information about bags and boxes to find the information he or she is looking for? Wombatt 01:26, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
It's duplicating the info in too many places. Someone who wants to craft bags should be able to look at one article and see all recipes, regardless of discipline. On the other hand, someone who is already a leatherworker and wants to craft Packs can look at Leatherworker (or whatever page is going to hold leatherworker recipes) to find their discipline-specific recipes. It's going to be on a page with all other recipes for the discipline, yes, but that's what the Table of Contents is for.
That system should be good enough - A) Lists of recipes by item type (Bags); B) Lists of recipes by discipline. Making articles for the intersections of those (Lists of <item type> crafted by <discipline>) seems like over-specialization. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 01:58, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
OK, so ditch Pack, Bag (crafting), and Box (crafting), and put generalized recipes on Bag and specific recipes on Armorsmith, Leatherworker, and Tailor for each level of bag? Wombatt 02:01, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
I think we should have the specific recipes on Bag as well, grouped by bag type - by which I mean invisible, oiled, etc. not bag/pack/box. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 02:11, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
That's not going to save much work, though, because oiled are ONLY packs, padded are ONLY boxes. The only common variant is invisible, and the naming is all different there on Boxes. Wombatt 02:28, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
If this is the general Inventory Expansion crafting page, then the table at the bottom should include the refined materials for the other two disiplines, and the Equipment Box added material, possibly also the crafting level required for each size of bag as well. Four extra columns, and it will have all the bag crafting recipies, nice and concise. I also feel that "Bag" is going to be what people search for when they want to know about "Things that give them more inventory space", so should probably be the no-suffix page. Illiander 17:12, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
There's a discussion here on making the page more clear on that respect, as well as a few variants on the table. Take a look and weigh in, please! Wombatt 17:40, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

Overlap with Inventory[edit]

There's a lot of overlapping information with the Inventory page. Perhaps it's a good idea to take another look at it, assess which information belongs to which topic and minimize replicating the same information (for ease of future maintenance).

If certain parts have to overlap, then I'd suggest perhaps copying those parts directly to at least keep consistency between the articles. For example the Bag#Bag features and Inventory#Types of bags sections seem similar in purpose. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 95.97.33.170 (talk) at 14:38, 18 July 2012 (UTC).

The info in Inventory#Types of bags is very basic and has a note that the main section is listed at Bag. I'm currently working on re-working of the Bag page, check out the discussion here and weigh in. Wombatt 00:18, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

Table typoes[edit]

Are the bone chip for 10-slot and pile of shimmering dust for 12 slot right, or just copy&paste typoes? Illiander 06:35, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

Bone chip is 100% right, shimmering dust is an unknown (I couldn't get enough cotton during BWE3 to get past the standard 12-slot). That reminds me, I need to put the notice at the top. Wombatt 14:28, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
So it goes Bone Chip, Bone Chip, Bone. For Craftsman's Bags? Illiander 18:36, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
Weird but true. I'll put up the pics when I get to my computer. Wombatt 19:07, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
10 Slot Craftsman's Bag discovery.png Wombatt 00:51, 2 August 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, Wierd. Do you think anyone reported this to A-Net as a bug? Illiander 06:44, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

Sources of Bags[edit]

I saw no mention of the various places from where to acquire bags, so I added the section in. I've gotten 8 slot and 10 slot bags from sPvP glory reward chests. I've heard that you can get 20 slot bags from Glory chests, too. I am only rank 12, and I don't know specifically which chests gave the 8 and 10 slot bags, otherwise, I might have created a table as to which sPvP rank and quality (copper, silver, gold) chests can drop which size bags. I think this would be a valuable contributiuon to the wiki if anyone else can supply this information, or can at least link to another webpage with this information. --Supernick530 20:05, 27 November 2012 (UTC)

Non-standard bags[edit]

I noticed, bags like [Wrangler's Bag] which is 9 slots, is not listed on this page. Is there a reason? Fright01 × 05:07, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

Because no one's added it. Add it :) --76.112.33.190 16:50, 17 December 2012 (UTC)

Equipment Boxes[edit]

The text specifies "looted" weapons and armor going to the equipment box first. When you double click to equip a piece and it replaces one already equipped, the game shows you the old piece on the right of the screen as it goes into your bags just like loot. Does that mean items that are being unequipped will go to the equipment box first?

I guess the specification "looted" makes me wonder in what situations appropriate items do not go to the box. When purchased from vendors? Picked up from the TP? I suppose this goes equally for oiled packs and craftsman's bags as well. 69.129.231.58 17:21, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

remove light of dwayna and shadow of grenth[edit]

With the addition of chaos of lyssa ANET fixed the categories - the back items now have their own categories for crafting. I can't for the life of me figure out how to change the category search which erroneously pulls up both light and shadow. I edited the light and shadow pages to change the tags for both to "back item".A Liability (talk) 21:01, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

Just click the "refresh" tab. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 21:05, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
LOL! Thanks, I didn't think it was an ID10t problem on my end ;). So when I made the changes to the items the category list was immediately updated right? I didn't need to do anything to make it appear correctly on other people's screens? A Liability (talk) 21:08, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
Nope. The "refresh" link forces the wiki software on the server to re-parse the page and update the server-side page cache, which it then serves to everyone who accesses it. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 21:10, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

Solid enough for trivia?[edit]

In the original Guild Wars, players could die their bags. These bags had 5 inventory slots by default. There was also initially 6 common dyes that dropped more often than the rest: Red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. The 6 5-slot colored leather bags that drop from level 1-15 bosses, and can be purchased from some starting area vendors are likely a reference to how some people used these cheap dyes to dye their bags in GW1. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 14:42, 20 October 2015 (UTC)

I never thought of that before, but it makes a lot of sense. I bet you're right. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 15:29, 20 October 2015 (UTC)

Feedback 2017/09/15[edit]

Please add 18 slot equipment box, made by Armorsmiths, from: 10 mithril ingots; 1 greater rune of holding; and 3 large scales. --97.102.167.46 01:18, 16 September 2017 (UTC)

It was actually supposed to show up there, the page wasn't loading that template correctly for some reason. If it happens again, me or someone else should probably switch the recipe list to be by discipline. Thanks for the heads up! - Doodleplex 02:28, 16 September 2017 (UTC)

Greater than 20 slot bags available?[edit]

I have seen posts on reddit regarding people having 32 slot bags from crafting or forge, yet there is no information on this page about them. Is the information for these larger bags somewhere else? The preceding unsigned comment was added by 50.66.200.30 (talk).

Hi there. We're still in the process of adding everything from the expansion, so just hold tight for now until we add the bulk of information. To answer your question, yes, there are 24 slot bags added in the expansion. —Ventriloquist 16:36, 23 September 2017 (UTC)

Redirect Search[edit]

Is it possible for someone to make the search term "inventory bag/s" redirect here? Had to search through a few other pages before I finally got here. I would do it myself but am unsure how to. 155.143.6.237 06:25, 7 November 2017 (UTC)

Sure. Thanks for the feedback! --Imry (talk) 06:37, 7 November 2017 (UTC)
For future reference, to make a redirect you create a page with #REDIRECT [[pagename]] at the top, where pagename is the name of the page you want to redirect it to. Just make sure it's not pointing to a redirect or it won't work --Gimmethegepgun (talk) 10:15, 7 November 2017 (UTC)

Isn't this incorrect?[edit]

"New characters begin with three bag slots and a Starter Backpack equipped in the first slot. Two bag slots can be obtained by purchasing the Heart of Thorns expansion" - Isn't this only true for free accounts? Pretty sure characters on full accounts start with five bag slots (with the Backpack in the first). 130.237.241.82 14:03, 12 October 2018 (UTC)

You're correct. - J.P.User J.P. sigicon.png 14:07, 12 October 2018 (UTC)
I noticed that too. I've re-written it to try and make it clearer. ALL paid accounts have 5 bag slots, even if they only have the base game and therefore any way of upgrading a free account will unlock them, not just buying HoT. Danikat (talk) 17:09, 4 January 2019 (UTC)

Suggestion to add slot counts in tables[edit]

It would be useful for the bag recipe tables to include a slot count for the bags that don't indicate that in the name, such as the Boreal and Olmakhan bags. Maybe the template that is generating these tables could conditionally show a Slots column if the data items have a Bag type and Slots property. --Mayhap (talk) 19:10, 27 December 2019 (UTC)

Boreal containers, list location & order??[edit]

Because "Simple Boreal Canteen" is listed last under the 20 slot container section, shouldn't the same apply to the 24, 28, and 38 slot Boreal containers?

  • Additionally, is it possible to list them with their size in parenthesis, to instantly identify their size?
    • (20 Slot) Simple Boreal Canteen
    • (24 Slot) Sturdy Boreal Duffel
    • (28 Slot) Hardened Boreal Barrel
    • (32 Slot) Reinforced Boreal Trunk

As is it now, the Boreal containers are in 2 separate sections. One container is listed with other containers of the same size and the other 3 containers are at the end of the list, in alphabetical order, and in the incorrect numerical order of 28, 32, and 24.  Frostty1  07:53, 25 May 2022 (UTC)

The list is automatically generated with smw:Semantic Mediawiki and hence bound to several constraints.
  • The displayed item name is always the in-game name (canonical name), nothing we can do about this.
  • The sort order is "Requires rating, Has item data object", so it's first sorted by the required crafting rating and then second by the page name (which explains your described order). Of course one could use "Requires rating, Has item data object.Has inventory bag slots" (first rating, then bag slots) or "Requires rating, Has item data object.Has item rarity" (first rating, then rarity) but due to a SMW bug this would not allow to sort the items alphabetically afterwards. In detail, for unknown reasons the sort properties are reordered internally by their hierarchy, so using "Requires rating, Has item data object.Has inventory bag slots, Has item data object" (rating, slots, name) would be internally reordered into "Requires rating, Has item data object, Has item data object.Has inventory bag slots" (rating, name, slots) which is basically meaningless.
So, the downside from automatically generated lists (that are updated automatically once the related recipe exists on the wiki) is that in rare cases it may get frustrating due to the either the lack of proper in-game name or due to weird SMW bugs. In such cases at some point a sacrifice has to be made:
  • Manual list: full control but it might get outdated soon as nobody is adding the new bag recipe.
  • Sort order: for example lose the alphabetical order.
  • Show bag slots number: adjust a template that is used on hundreds of other pages with a elsewhere redundant option that is only used here.

The illuminated boreal weapons collection doesn't seem to award a boreal trunk? Not sure why it says it does.
