Hint Completion?[edit]

I just noticed that you removed the bug with Hint Completon from Hero (achievements) page, while some people (me included) can't seem to obtain it, and I only counted 51 hints in Hint window. Do you have any more information about this matter? Thanks in advance :)
Faalagorn/ 13:06, 13 September 2012 (UTC).

You should contact support. If it's a bug, it's not a bug affecting everyone, as I have all 82, and so everyone I asked in-game. If people still has that, the comment should be re-added, but it should be edited to clearly note that it doesn't affect everyone. The line I removed stated that completion was impossible, when that isn't true, as people have completed it. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 14:48, 13 September 2012 (UTC)
If you could provide a list of all hints (just the titles would be sufficient), that would be helpful. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 15:05, 13 September 2012 (UTC)
Or the screenshots, whichever is easier for you. You can upload them in zip and post a link here, I don't think having them uploaded on wiki is a must. We can compare them with our hints from there on to maybe see the cause :)
Faalagorn/ 15:43, 13 September 2012 (UTC).
Screenshots would be good, yes, because I think we should document the hints on the wiki. If you (Mith) feel like typing them all up into an article, go ahead, otherwise just link the images and either of us can do it. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 15:51, 13 September 2012 (UTC)
Never mind, I just finished typing them all up at Hints. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 05:11, 14 September 2012 (UTC)

Preview Play Day: 27 September 2013[edit]

There is a Preview Play Day this week, at 9 AM PST on Friday, and we need a representative on fairly short notice (by tomorrow, Wednesday). Also note that we are going to be trying a new approach to documenting the previews- read this for details. If you are available at that time and interested in trying out the new journalistic approach, please go say something over on the talk page ASAP. Thanks! Two things: 15 characters? Ye gods. Secondly, is 50 your favourite number? Is there some secret exploit that only works with L50s? I WANNA KNOW! — snogratUser Snograt signature.png 12:44, 25 April 2014 (UTC)

I got character slots when gems had reasonable prices. I got 15 to have 3 of each profession, to be able to see more personal stories, but because of the living story I haven't been able to play them at all. Only got 3 characters to the last quest, and only 2 of them through Arah. As for the level 50s, I just forgot to update that. After I leveled a character to 80, I started playing with the lowest level one every time I logged in. So they were around the same level. When I hit 50 with the 15th, I came and updated it, but forgot about it later. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 13:54, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
Good, that's what I thought it must be. Carry on. — snogratUser Snograt signature.png 15:07, 25 April 2014 (UTC)

Event names[edit]

Hey, before you move more pages, please blank them before you do and restore the page afterwards. If you don't do this SMW will keep both events cached. See: Venlin Vale. Tyndel (talk) 23:17, 16 August 2014 (UTC)

I do not understand. What do you mean? There's only one event there. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 23:21, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
I mean this bit: "Skill.png Protect Pamfa's lab from attacking Inquest agents. (16, 16)" It now has two events 'in the same place'. This shows itself in the form of "16" appearing twice and the icon not being properly displayed. I don't understand the whole extend of this, but it is a bug with the Semantic MediaWiki the wiki uses. Tyndel (talk) 23:27, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
The page shouldn't have been moved in the first place. All events should be documented without full stops, with the exceptions of exclamation points with events such as Sandstorm!. --Ventriloquist 00:05, 17 August 2014 (UTC)
But then when people search with the stop they don't get the event. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 01:31, 17 August 2014 (UTC)
The amount of people that actually type in the entire event (with caps and full stops) is ridiculously low. We never had any complaints (that I know of) about it, and to top it off; even IF they type it with full stops, the wiki will still give them the actual event page below, kinda like how Google tries to correct you. --Ventriloquist 01:46, 17 August 2014 (UTC)
I actually moved the page because the event did not appear in the results. I was expecting it to appear under "Page title matches", but it did not. A weird exception, maybe? MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 18:24, 17 August 2014 (UTC)
See GW2W:SMW (at the bottom) for an explanation of the bug. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 01:08, 17 August 2014 (UTC)

Wolf Pup[edit]

Hey there. Since you created the page for the Alpine Wolf Pups, I noticed that the majority of the locations linked to the usual Wolf Pup are in the Shiverpeaks. I'm assuming that the ones in the Shiverpeaks are most likely Alpines, but since there was no Alpine Pup page at the time, the editors just stuck the usual Wolf Pup in. Can you confirm that the ones in the Shiverpeaks are Alpine or not? --Ventriloquist 10:48, 22 August 2014 (UTC)

I don't have that much of a great memory so I can't say for sure of there's no black-skin pups in the shiverpeaks. But keep in mind that there's adult black-skin wolves in the Shiverpeaks, usually in areas that are not snowy. The ones that I saw in Krongar Pass are definitely alpine, an the ones in Altar Brook Vale are definitely black pups. Because of inconsistency between maps and even regions within a map, locations have to be checked one by one. You can even find places where alpine wolves are merely called just "Wolf". MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 11:11, 22 August 2014 (UTC)
I remember that there was a lot of Alpine Pups around in Wayfarer Foothills, but that's about it. There's definitely none in Kryta, though, at least not in Queensdale. As for the regular Wolves, your way of redirecting them to Alpine Wolves is great, and I don't think they'll be needing a new page since they share every characteristic with their counterpart, sans the name. Thanks for the reply! --Ventriloquist 11:27, 22 August 2014 (UTC)

Packaged Goods[edit]

Just wondering why you decided to create that redirect. I don't recall seeing that term in-game. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 21:34, 13 September 2014 (UTC)

It's the official term used in the trading post. Under "other". MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 21:35, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
Ah, I hadn't looked under that category yet. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 21:38, 13 September 2014 (UTC)

Expand sections?[edit]

“I wish there was a way to expand sections when linking to their HTML ids.” — What do you mean by that? poke | talk 00:34, 20 September 2014 (UTC)

When you use the /wiki command for items that used the item variety template, Search Results will send them to that particular entry's id bookmark. Like this. That way /wiki search can be used to know the type of the creature that dropped a bag. But if the collapsible option is used in the table, when reaching the page it'll be collapsed. So I had to settle for keeping the tables expanded. But some tables may get long, and collapsing them would be nice to keep thing clean. So I wanted to know if it's possible to expand an element when linking to a bookmark inside of it. Basically what this guy and this other guy are asking. To make the page check where the cursor is after load, and do not collapse the element if the cursor is there because it got sent though the #bookmark.
Oh.
That takes me to something else. I've been checking Tyndel's champion research and it seems the guy made the Periodic Table of champion bags. I've been able to fill holes following the predictions in the table, and I found no exceptions other than ones like the ones he noted (e.g.: corrupted quaggan dropping quaggan bag instead corrupted bag).
Once we know for sure that all champions of the same type share the same bags, we can then check if different bags with the same name have different unique drops depending on the type that dropped them. I suspect unique drops drop only from specific bags among those that share names. Once we knew that for sure, we'd be able to give notes to entries in the list of drops from bags. Like, for example:
I also though of splitting the pages per enemy type, but that'll only work well with the /wiki link search. Players using the manual text input search will need to see the full page, as they may not know from which enemy they got each particular bag, or not know how to use the /wiki command to tell from which enemy they got that bag, or have already opened the bag and have none with them and just want to check the things they may have gotten. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 01:38, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
Just to be clear, that's the location of the subobject on the page. The chat link is looking up the subobject by its id. Any table with subobjects shouldn't be collapsed for that reason.--Relyk ~ talk < 02:05, 20 September 2014 (UTC)

Frostbite (Winter Wonderland) / Asura Chill icon[edit]

Hope I got it right. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 23:26, 26 December 2014 (UTC)

That's the one. It's one of the old diamond condition, like the burning icon used on lava, or the bleed and poison icons used on the poisons given to mercenaries in Harathi. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 23:30, 26 December 2014 (UTC)
Here they are. Lava, Sharpened Blades and Blackvein Poison. It'll be cool if you could also find the icons for those. I used the closest I cold find for bleed and poison, but they are still not quite the same, they use the same style of condition icon as Asura Chill. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 23:34, 26 December 2014 (UTC)
They're in the 64x64 texture set, around the 102800 ID range. There are a few more that look like blind, immobilize, cripple, vulnerability, and weakness. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 23:49, 26 December 2014 (UTC)

Item variant table[edit]

“Item variant table requires rarity to be set to be included on search results, otherwise ID must be set on infobox, until that is fixed.”

Can you explain what you mean, so I can fix it? I just edited all the daily achievement chests to the new consistent format, and I’m not going to have them changed again now ;P poke | talk 21:10, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

Nevermind, understood it now, and fixed it :) poke | talk 21:19, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
I checked. It is not fixed. Unless the rarity property on the infobox is not set and the rarity is set on a row of the variant table, the IDs set on those rows will not appear in the search results. For example, if you search for this: [&AgEeCgEA] you will get no results even though Chest of the Mists (rare) has the IDS in the variant table. As things are now in order to get the search results, either the IDs are added to the infobox (which prevents search going directly to the item in the table), or remove the rarity from the infobox and put it on each variant row. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 21:25, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
Yup. You still need to move the rarity to the variant rows, or put the IDs in the infobox. After moving the rarity from the infobox to each variant row, searching for [&AgE1CgEA] properly leads to Chest of the Hero (exotic). MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 21:47, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
No. It works fine if you just clear your browser’s cache. poke | talk 21:55, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
Still nothing. I even tried another browser. 22:06, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
Working on my pc. (page is so short it can't actually move to the table, but its in the url. Btw, internet file cache on one pc is shared between browsers (not logins, but images 'n stuff is, so you need to empty temporary internet files). -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 22:23, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
Firefox sometimes uses Window's Temporary Internet Files folder, but Chrome does not. Plugins sometimes share cache, but I don't have any plugins on Chrome. It was even the first time I used it to visit GW2Wiki, and I cleaned cache on both and event reseted the computer, just to be sure. Hell, I have Chrome's about:cache right in front of me on a different computer. There's only the stuff from Google's home page there. Wood Plank[edit]

Your recent edit of Wood Plank removed the variant sold by Quartermaster Thraeingr from the list. The Quartermaster's item is called Wood Plank. Surely it should be included even if it's sold at a different price? --Spionida (talk) 10:02, 8 February 2015 (UTC)

He recreated it at a different name. It's mainly because the item has a different icon, I believe. --Ventriloquist 12:10, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
I see, thanks. --Spionida (talk) 13:52, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
If you use the item's chat link in-game with the /wiki command, you'll see they all have differen IDs. There's actually at least 3 different "Wood Plank" items. They all give a Wooden Plank environmental weapon with the same skills (I can check the skills but I have no way to know if they are actually the same weapon), but they are all different. One costs 1.80 silver and has seasoned plank icon, one costs 80 copper and has seasoned plank icon, and the third I've found costs 24 copper and has a Heartwood Fragment icon. There's many items with the same name (and sometimes icon) all over the game. There's also other consumables like planks and pirate peg legs that also give wooden plank weapons when used. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 14:24, 8 February 2015 (UTC)

Page question[edit]

The page "Shining Pendant" and the two pages on it, where did you find those items? I can't find any source for them and they don't appear in the API. - Doodleplex 19:34, 12 September 2017 (UTC)

I never got them but they appeared in the trading post. There's several suspicious items that seem to be remnants of things that got discarded before release. Like how you put 3 lucky rabbit feet in the mystic forge, but not a 4th, and nobody can find the 4th item of that recipe. The shinning blade pendants were likely left as results in mystic forge random drops, but as far as anyone can tell they don't have any other source or any use. Gotcha, thanks! - Doodleplex 20:15, 12 September 2017 (UTC)

Phantasms in The Artist's Workshop[edit]

Hey, I have a question about the phantasms you added to this personal story step recently. I am not able to find them, and I have no idea where they should or even could appear, can you help please? :D--Aylia (talk) 23:51, 11 August 2023 (UTC)

I did not add them, I split an existing page so they would not use the phantasm created by mesmer skills as they can't be the same creatures since the images of the phantasm in the story are just floating weapons. Supposedly they will appear in the workshop under certain circumstances. Triggering a trap, or created by enemies there. Last time I did a weekly key farming I went there but didn't see them either.
