Dyes[edit]

I see we are both doing them now. But I have a question for you, what armors are you using? I used the starter armor since everybody knows what it looks like and is easy to get. The light one you're using looks like it's lightening colors too, like it's a special property of it. There really hasn't been much work on this topic anyways, the only discussion I had was here: Talk:Dye#.22Real_life.22_examples I would rather we use a template instead of litering pages with additional code when we could simply put one template on each page. The reason I didn't use gallery is because it shrinks the images to a much too small preview size, you have to click them all then to really see whereas using a plain resized image you can see it without needing to click on the thumb. Not sure how else to set up, but maybe a table or something. I don't know much code. Previously Unsigned 04:26, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

Sorry, I'm a complete and utter noob when it comes to doing the whole wiki edit thing. I don't know how I'm supposed to respond to you, but I'm assuming I just edit the conversation, which is what I'm doing right now. I'm using Exalted, Emblazoned, and Draconic armors, which are the Exotic 80 armors, but I preview them in The Heart of Mists from the PvP Locker with the names Outrider's, Drake Scale, and Scaled. I went and looked at the color difference between the light armors Cabalist set and Exalted set, and there is a veeery slight difference, but not a whole ton. It might also be a property of female armors versus male armor. You can adjust the page and use the template instead if you want to. Like I said, I'm a noob at this and I freaked out, because I edited the Adobe Sunset Dye, then the Grape Gum dye, but then the Adobe Sunset Dye was showing the Grape Gum Dye instead and I kept going back and forth between the pages, trying to figure out why it'd only show one of the set of dye pictures. I just did the gallery, because that's just what I saw on the Abyss and Celestial Dye pages and figured if there are multiple images, it may get too bulky and messy if they aren't thumbnails. It just looks neater, but like I said, if you want it with the template and can make it look pretty, go for it. I just don't know how to work it and put my pictures in without it breaking. I can just upload the rest of my pictures so far and you can add them. I have another 30 to add later. Also, do you know how to add a whole new page for a dye? I looked up Wrath Dye, but it doesn't exist, and I have the screenshots for that. NhiaThia 05:53, 7 October 2012 (UTC)NhiaThia
Yeah, you just edit the page and start typing. You can use ":" to indent. I too am not that great with wiki coding and such. Maybe I'll just ask one of the regulars for an opinion and what is possible. The main reason I used a template is so that when we need to edit a page, you don't need to do any code at all, you can just do {{Dye gallery}} and it will all be there - plus if we want to change things, by changing the template, it will update all the pages containing it at once (verses needing to edit each page individually). You can make images smaller by using "|#px" after an image, where # is a pixel height - I used 150 on mine. If you have images with all the same resolution (or at least vertical I think), you can make them line up perfectly using that at any size. I'm not sure how to set it up so we can have plain thumbnails resized and then with the text below, but it's probably in a table. To add a new page, just go to it manually/click on it's red link and then click edit/create. I just copy the info from another dye page and edit the parts that need to change. Just another quick update, I've been trying to learn tables but not so much luck. Not forcing you to help as well but maybe I'll see what an external editor can do for me or anything. Wish I could find how to do some of this. To make simple tables though, it's quite easy. I just experimented with this:
"{| class="wikitable" | [[File:{{PAGENAME}} (light armor).jpg|150px]] | [[File:Adobe Sunset Dye (light armor).jpg|150px]] |- | Light armor example: Apprentice (cloth + few leather) | test |} ''
It makes a nice table and all, but I'm wondering how wrap around their image size. Yu can turn the border off by removing class=wikitable Is it possible for you to make 252x600 pixels or something similar aspect ratio? That's what I started off using in the Hero Panel. I think it's the smallest that still fit everything in I think. Not sure if the equiptment window is smaller or you ahve small interface size on. Or I guess I could switch too. You still there? I guess you can do whatever you want, as I didnt' really get responses back. I think it would be nice to use tables and individual images though that way but it's up to you. I'm gonna ask some helpers to see what they think. I'm not trying to be totally controlling here, we cn have a discussion if you want. Thanks for doing anything though. I actually wait till I unlock all my dyes till adding an image lol so it's expensive. I started out doing it that way and now can't quit otherwise the background and exact location of my character changes! Since you don't use that, if you really want as well, you can do almost every single dye in the game using your way right now - there is a topic and huge post with all the preview codes. Sorry, it's been rather busy in real life for the past several days, so I haven't had much free time to play around with the Wiki. I may have some time this weekend to upload the rest of the pictures. I can either just put them on the pages the way I've been doing it and you can edit it later if you want to or I can just leave them there for you to just grab my pictures and put them in a table. I've been mostly using dyes I've had, but this website http://www.gw2spidy.com/search/dye will give you the in game code for the dyes you don't have (look for the "link ingame" button), which is what I did for the Celestial, White, Abyss, and Black dyes, since people usually want to see what the big difference between those are. I don't think it really matters to people what your background in the picture is, if it changes or not, as long as they can get an idea of what the dye looks like. Alternatively, you can probably go through and just put all those codes up on the Wiki pages for people to link it themselves in game and see what it looks like on their own armor. The list above that I posted is the same thing, except it's all one one page as a document. I posted that because it might be more convenient if you happen to do them. A while ago I discussed adding the codes to pages, but it wasn't really a priority. They want to get all the raw/translated code numbers first then they can translate them in batch to game codes and then work out how add that. Somebody did go around and so some adding anyways though. I think it might be best to add the pictures separately if possible, and do you have -bmp on your game? I see you have access to Photoshop. You can make bitmaps and then custom save them using Photoshop's save for web function. That's what I do to get smaller sizes. Oh yeah, are you using small interface size? I thought ours would line up in size but they don't. I was just wondering if that was why. Previously Unsigned 13:03, 13 October 2012 (UTC)
