Those look spiffy, but... how are they supposed to be useful? All you see is a grid of item icons. In order to get any more information, you have to mouseover an icon - and you have to do that for each and every item you want to get the info on. And then if you want to compare items, you have to move your mouse back and forth between the two items (or have an extremely efficient memory). To put it bluntly, the idea lacks utility. That's why we traditionally list information in a table structure - so that all the information is visible at once and comparisons can be made easily. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 00:06, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

I agree. It could be useful however if someone writes a script for item tooltips, though it wouldn't work for users with javascript turned off. It could possibly be done with some infobox hacks, some templates and CSS though. — Rhoot User Rhoot sig.png 00:20, 22 June 2012 (UTC)
Those look... spiffy, Max. To be blunt, however... what exactly do they do for me on my touch device? I can't exactly mouse things over, so all I get is a slew of anonymous icons. Torrenal 01:00, 22 June 2012 (UTC)
Even with fancy Javascript popups to give the item details, it still requires hovering over every image that I want information for. The layout is nice for following the collection panes in-game; unfortunately, the presentation works against that by hiding the important information. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 01:58, 22 June 2012 (UTC)
Thank you, those comments are very useful. I've added a caption with the extra information. The value information is intended to go in an overlay so it should be permanently visible, but that is still a work in progress -- maybe DPT (or whatever) to get the information from the target page infobox... --Max 2 08:42, 22 June 2012 (UTC)
@Rhoot- javascript is an integral part of web functionality. If a user turns it off, they are choosing to receive a subpar experience- we don't have to cater to that.
@Touch device concerns- maybe one touch (click) displays the tooltip, a second touch (click) takes you to the page? Felix Omni Signature.png 15:28, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

From Felix Omni's talk page[edit]

My question is, how much information would you like a mouse-over to display? Because it's entirely possible that you could (for instance) transclude the entire infobox for a carrot into a javascript-generated tooltip which would really look quite nice. Felix Omni Signature.png 02:20, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

That is a very good question. I'm not sure. I'm trying to get discussion on questions like that discussed on the Project's talk page. --Max 2 09:13, 22 June 2012 (UTC)
