I just realized another part of the problem - you're trying to use the #vars as {{#var:description}}, but the DPL is setting them as {{#var:description-<skill name>}}. You copied the DPL from the skill list pages, where the DPL pulls data for multiple skills, so this was necessary. For your usage here, though, we could simplify it to {{#var:description}}, since you're only pulling data for a single skill. —Dr Ishmael 14:45, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

Aaaaah! That was the part I didn't understand. I was trying to work out if that - was some kind of escape character but couldn't find any documentation. That would explain why I couldn't find the variables and why I found the code for the skill row cells so confusing. In that instance I thought it was trying to do some kind of mathematical operation.
