Gallery[edit]

Hiya, I am kind of new to wiki editing too, but I'm not sure we are supposed to be putting galleries onto the recipe pages. I don't see what it adds personally. Otherwise, great work on the pages. :) Simooshy 21:44, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

Thanks, Simooshy! The recipe pages just seemed kind of dry & flat to me. I think the gallery gives it a little more of a GW 2 feel. Also, it shows icon changes and tooltip changes from BWE 2. For instance, I've edited the text on some descriptions and the prices on some items, because they didn't match what is in the latest screens. I think the screenshots will make a nice little history for the Beta Weekend changes over time.  :) MidnightSong 21:56, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, I've been updating changes too. However all changes are recorded in the history of the page, so anyone interested can view that. Simooshy 22:06, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
I meant the screens would show the changes in the game over time to players who don't edit wikis, not the history of the changes to the page. You are doing a fine job, too, btw!  :) MidnightSong 23:55, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

Good job![edit]

Hey! Just wanted to let you know you're doing a great job with the cooking/recipes/etc pages! :) Lextoc 14:21, 16 June 2012 (UTC)

Thanks!  :) MidnightSong 14:23, 16 June 2012 (UTC)

screenshot image format[edit]

I just now noticed that you've been uploading all your screenshots in PNG format. We generally prefer screenshots to be in JPG format for the smaller file sizes. We use PNGs for icons and JPGs for photos of things like Krytan Drakehound. Also, JPG is the native format for screenshots, so I have to wonder why you're bothering to convert everything to PNG in any case. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 14:57, 17 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Dr. Ishmael! Thanks for taking the time to come over and help me learn about the wiki! As you probably read, I am entirely new to this, and I was unaware of the preferences you mention as to file format. I did read through the guidelines, but didn't see that in there anywhere. I was converting to png, because the screenshots were not taken in high res, and I didn't want any data loss. I'll go with jpg from now on. Thanks again for the info!
Wow, I just looked at Krytan Drakehound and see that my screenshot got promoted! I didn't know whether the renders should stay where they were or if the screenshot should become the main picture. Thanks! :) MidnightSong 10:11, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

recipe screenshots[edit]

Also, I know you put a lot of work into this, but all the recipe screenshots you've uploaded are entirely redundant. The information is already presented in the recipe box, and there's no reason to include an image that shows the exact same thing, regardless of the "aesthetics" that you discussed above. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 15:04, 17 June 2012 (UTC)

Is it the case that a wiki is to be purely informational, and aesthetics are not to be considered? I believe that many people would rather look at a picture than an information box. Since the wiki is about GW2, I believe it should feel a bit like GW2. Additionally, the images visually show a few things that aren't conveyed by the info boxes: that when you don't have any of the ingredients, the item is highlighted in red, that the number of each ingredient you have is shown in parentheses after that ingredient, and that the recipe will show how many you currently have of the resulting item. In that the game is still in beta, the screenshots also serve as a confirmation of the correctness of the information on the page (since no one can log in and check information at this stage), as well as familiarizing the wiki reader with the layout that is used in game. Thanks again for taking the time to talk with me. While I don't agree, I do appreciate the input! I won't be posting any more recipe screenshots from BWE 2, because I don't have any more, but please let me know if it is the official word that they are not to be posted, and I won't do any next time :)
While I have your ear, could you delete another image for me? It seems I don't have the power to delete. I misnamed an image with 2102 (dyslexia, I guess) for the Chocolate Banana recipe. I have since noticed that I could have used the move tab to rename it, but at the time, I thought the only alternative I had was to upload again with the correct name. Is using the move tab the proper treatment for a misnamed image? MidnightSong 10:11, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
I believe the proper procedure would be to move it to the proper name, and then put a delete tag on the original page, as moving will not get rid of it. -User Eive Windgrace Harbinger of the Deceiver.png 09:07, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
Thanks! I didn't know there was such a thing as a delete tag... thanks for the info!  :) 65.34.53.214 09:25, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
To mark pages for deletion, use the following template: {{delete|reasoning}} (regular deletion process) or {{delete|reasoning|speedy}} (speedy deletion) for deleting articles when there's no reason to expect opposition to deleting the article e.g. unnecessary redirects, vandalism or your own user pages and user images. Mediggo 09:33, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
Thanks very much, Mediggo... I was hunting for this info. Am I missing some very obvious place to find these things? MidnightSong 09:54, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
I think there used to exist a link to GW2W:PP, which documents the process of deletion (to some degree, at least) in the Help menus/navis, but that no longer seems to be the case. In most cases, just looking at the page source will reveal the code for templates used for marking articles for moving, deletion, merging, or adding templates like otheruses or disambiguation. Another page useful to you might be GW2W:WELCOME, as it links to most articles about formatting guidelines, community portals, etc. Mediggo 10:05, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, Mediggo, this is very very helpful!  :) MidnightSong 09:15, 20 June 2012 (UTC)
