Font[edit]

when you get to implementing the font parameters... can you add in something for font size? I find the size on the info text just a little big... And not too fond of the "this is my story" part, and i don't feel like copying your template and removing it just to get the effect of the character info display i want... so maybe a parameter for optionally removing it (a simple {{#ifeq:{{{whoiam|y}}}|y|I am blank|}} would work, and i doubt i'm the only one who prefers to make own stories, which that kinda interrupts) thanks ~~ User Kiomadoushi sig.png Kiomadoushi 06:53, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

Hi Kio! Yeah, no problem, I can do those improvements (probably this weekend) and actually I'm also against the forced "This is my story", but left things pending as I was working on another layout as well. Thanks for the feedback, keep it coming (better if before saturday, so I could put my mind to it in one sweep). --Leonim 19:31, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

Background[edit]

hello there! I really like this template, nice step forward from the ones that inspired it. I noticed though that the image for the human race doesn't work, and the background for the land/water arrow button isn't transparent. also, is there a way to make it so the background image isn't automatically adjusted to fit in the frame if over 800x600? not a huge variety of pictures that fit just right. thanks for your time! -- Kha 07:32, 11 March 2012 (UTC)

Heya Kha, thanks for the feedback and glad the template suits your needs. When the highlight parameter is activated (true by default), the clickable buttons are bordered in red and have a light-colored background. I think I can safely make that highlighted background transparent or semi-transparent (opacity tweaking).
Initially I wanted to get my hands on the ingame auto-attack borders (golden arrows squaring the first weapon skill) in order to show clickable data in the skillbar, but it would be a bit confusing : if you have any ideas to share... :)
I'm not sure what you mean about the image for the human race, except that it maybe doesn't fit well in the frame.
For the size of the background image, you can use the parameter bg-size, seems I forgot to document it. But there are not yet any ways to position the background relative to the frame (note that it will stay clipped to 800x600) : I will add bg-top and bg-left parameters (values in pixels as always) at a later date (probably this afternoon). --Leonim 10:38, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
thanks for the update! yeah, the bg-size was just what I was looking for. this is my first wiki page editing, and I have limited experience with html and stuff of that nature, so I'm a bit of a noob :D I put your templates with my characters at the bottom of my page if you wanted to see what I was talking about. the human icon in the top right, which should be the gold skyline of Divinity's Reach, just turns into a red 40 px so I guess it's just not fitting in the frame I assume. and I noticed you tweaked the opacity of the clickable buttons backgrounds, but I think I was wrong to suggest it to be fully transparent as it needs something to help it stand out from the backgrounds, so just needs semi-transparency.
also I noticed that font-color isn't changing anything, I may be doing something wrong, but I was able to change the palette colors and color of character's name just fine, and I was able to change the color of the font in my old character profiles on the page. it may just not be implemented? your template is just what I was looking for so I appreciate you listening to my ramblings, hehe -- Kha 18:42, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
Nah, we all are the noob of someone, doesn't mean we can't help obviously. :) Way to go about finding the font-color bug, it should work now (and on both panels). Opacity has replaced the transparent background of the highlighted buttons, and outlines do a better job than borders. Racial icons should be dealt with (wasn't using those from old times, instead of those from the wiki).
Your second character uses the wrong answer for the 4th biography question, hence the blackened icon : "Act with wisdom, but act." (the closing point was missing). --Leonim 01:23, 12 March 2012 (UTC)
Awesome, and thanks! It looks good. Now I'll have to spend more time updating my page and making other pages. With great design comes great responsibility, or something like that. -- Kha 02:13, 12 March 2012 (UTC)

Images[edit]

Hey again. just wanted to point out that two of the skill icons on the ranger's skillbar aren't working, the F2 skill button and what I think is the animal companion image. looks like they aren't programmed to go to a picture, just says File:.jpg and File:.png. you can see it on my ranger's profile at Ranger. I made a profile for each profession, and that's the only one with issues I noticed. -- Kha 21:39, 12 March 2012 (UTC)

Hi buddy, sorry fo the late answer, was busy reworking the code behind the templates and preping a combat portal.
About the pet, you can set it up with "pet" and "pet-skill" (which defaults to the species-specific of the pet if known). The default land pet is now the Brown Bear, and the amphibious and underwater are not defined (same empty image as you see now). I styrongly encourage any wanabee ranger to indicate their favored companion in their skillbar.
Since I made quite a lot of modifications (to lost some page weight and some inner complexity, then gain code readability, some speed and some knowledge of wiki extensions), you may encounter new bugs in the skillbar. o.O -- Mistfire Wolf.png Leonim [talk·contribs] 04:51, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

Hello there, it's been a while. I'm not sure if you still keep up with this stuff or plan to again, but just wanted to point out some things in case you do since I still am using your template, and just got back into editing my wiki pages after a long time. Anyways, the weapon icons do not show up, nor does the dodge icon. I know they changed the skillbar interface with dodge and not sure if that's something to consider. There have also been some changes to questions, like the norn first question which now doesn't work, and the sylvari answer of Green Hunstman changing to Green Knight and asura answer of Valet-123 Golem changing to VAL-A Golem and these new answers not working. And the ranger pet bar has a lot of missing icons, though I'm not sure if this is because of the template trying to put too much in.

Also, if you haven't considered putting in racial sympathies as one of the lines then you should, even if it isn't clear yet what they all will be. -- Kha 03:18, 9 August 2012 (UTC)

Keeping the Template Alive[edit]

This is seriously one of the most beautiful character templates. It's a credit to you and Shew.

Basically, I was wondering if we could have control over link colors. Due to the way it's coded, I can currently only manually change the Crafting link colors. ...I think? Please let me know if I'm being a bit of an idiot an overlooking something :) Very possible. I also really like the idea of having a racial sympathy category, as someone else mentioned. The problems I and other users are having with the biography icons are, I believe, due to Shew's Bio-Icon Template code. I'll go bother his talk page after this, hehe.

If you no longer have the time/inclination to dabble in the template, I was wondering if I could copypasta it into my User Templates and play with it there (with credit, of course!). It's a good way for me to unrust my wikicode skills in a way that might actually help someone besides myself. <3, Kymtastic 17:25, 27 March 2013 (UTC)
