Item codes[edit]

Hello and good morning/afternoon/evening (whenever you get a chance to look at this). I recently created a poop-ton of articles only to go back and alter them by removing their item codes (I used a template article and careless me also copied that item's code). My question is, how do I go about getting the item's code so I can apply it to future articles? Articles in question, pretty much all listed on this page Thank you. endeavor7530 07:01, 12 November 2017 (UTC)

There are two ways to figure out an item's ID:
  1. If the item in question is in your inventory, type /wiki into the chat, shift+click the item and then press enter. This will bring up a wiki search page stating that there's no current item related to the ID you pasted and will give you a code (a five digit number which you then place into the ID = parameter of the infobox.
  2. If you don't have the item, you can visit the official GW2 api that lists all new items. However, sometimes they take a while to be added, so this may not work instantly. For example, by visiting this website and pasting, say, "Recipe: The Twins' Visor" will lead you to this page where you can see the ID of the item is in fact 84869. The ID is presented in the address bar, in this case it's en.gw2treasures.com/item/84869. Or, alternatively, you can click the 'English Wiki' button to the right of the page I linked that will lead you to the same result as if you were to shift+click it from the game.
I'm not Alex, so maybe he can elaborate on some of the points I might have missed. —Ventriloquist 07:54, 12 November 2017 (UTC)
Oh perfect, thank you! endeavor7530 08:14, 12 November 2017 (UTC)
I think Ventriloquist has captured the answers well, I would however add
  • You can search for multiple links at once by using shift+clickon multiple items.
  • You can also link items from the Trading Post search window, and from Vendor windows. I'm not sure if you can generate chatlinks whilst viewing the menu from recipe books.
  • My favourite site is mymeanderingmind.com/GW2W_Easy_Mode/index.php any crawler site works though.

Perfect. Thank you! I added what I could. Some item codes are missing from the crawler sites...which is odd. endeavor7530 09:25, 12 November 2017 (UTC)
