Fallback for failure?[edit]
Is there some way this widget could have some fallback in case of failure? Recently, it failed to retrieve the item for the article Iron Marches Insight: Sunken Halls of Clarent and it just didn't display anything, causing a gap in the text (at the revision linked here it read "From the , swim northwest across the lake..."). I wonder if it could have some kind of placeholder for these cases then making it more apparent that it failed, instead just having a gap.
For instance, I'm going to put the widget here: Bloodfin Lake Waypoint — . --Txon Atana - (talk) 22:49, 30 August 2017 (UTC)
- Added error text. Note that this template should not be used in prose in the first place.
- The subobject wasn't created on Bloodfin Lake for some reason. I did a null edit on the page to force an update. This issue would fix itself in 24 hours normally, so I don't know how recent "Recently" is.--Relyk ~ talk < 02:19, 31 August 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for the fix and for the info. I don't know who or why it was put in the text there and I had no idea if it was the proper way or not, then I left it there. Apparently the fix is already in place, that article already shows it properly. "Recently" I could say is within a few days ago, I remember seeing that article last week and it was normal. By the way, what's the proper use for this template, so I know it next time? --Txon Atana - (talk) 02:27, 31 August 2017 (UTC)
- This is for definition lists (Lists using ":") such as on zone location tables or an achievement. If we really want to generate a chat link in prose, it would be better to do "The closest waypoint is Bloodfin Lake Waypoint () in Bloodfin Lake", calling {{map link}} manually. In general, we want to avoid chat links in prose at all as users can navigate to the area page. That isn't a hard guideline though. There are times it's valuable to readers to have it immediately there. If someone does use the template, that indicates the editor thinks readers find the chat link valuable to have there. We keep it there until it's replaced with better prose or moved elsewhere on the page.--Relyk ~ talk < 03:15, 31 August 2017 (UTC)
- We don't use chatlinks on the zone location tables. Currently it's only used in prose lol. -Chieftain Alex 06:35, 31 August 2017 (UTC)
How to suppress chat link?[edit]
Chat link is just clutter. Need parameter to suppress them. -- Shena'Fu (talk) 00:34, 27 April 2018 (UTC)
- If you wish for the location without the chat link, you can just use a regular link, e.g.
[[Commons Waypoint]]
will give you Commons Waypoint. G R E E N E R 01:18, 27 April 2018 (UTC)
How come no Quaggans waypoint?[edit]
Just silliness, but c'mon, really? there oughta be a quaggans waypoint somewhere in the game.... #wannabequaggan -T (talk) 20:44, 3 March 2022 (UTC)

A normal link doesn't provide the icon. And for some reason, map objective|wp template displays the name of the area, not the waypoint. -- Shena'Fu (talk) 17:40, 18 July 2022 (UTC)
- Made a new section, you were replying to an unrelated comment from four years ago.
- The correct usage is, and always will be,
{{waypoint|Monastery Waypoint}}
. Using the wrong template is entirely on you. (as for why attempting to wrongly use the map objective template displays the area name, this is because there is a redirect from the waypoint's name to the area page). -Chieftain Alex 18:01, 18 July 2022 (UTC)
