I think two columns by default are fine, i.e. this version. Hardcoding the amount of rows in a column (now: 14) is definitely not practicable for more than 140 items (or even 100 items), hence at least 10 columns (100 items -> 8 rows); there might be screens that aren't that wide and can't display these 10+ columns nicely.
Just use the columns parameter on pages where it is needed. In my opinion the column range should be either two, three or four (columns=2-4). Everything with more than four columns looks crowded, and doesn't increase readability (again there might be screens that are not that wide to contain more than 4 columns). --Tolkyria (talk) 07:53, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
