There seems to be a change as of 7/25/2020 from whatever it was on 7/17/2020 (or later). There are new frost bubble mechanics on all sub-bosses and final boss, and there's an almost permanent point-blank chilling AoE on the final boss. It feels like it's gotten harder. I think what you're describing is the weekly rotation of effects noted under Strike Mission: Cold War#Defense.
If we look at the effects by day, comparing 17th July with 25th July:

Then we can see on the 17th July it was a Red week (Frigid Vortex (tornadoes), Frigid Footfalls (chill), Frozen Barrier (reflect) - mostly easy effects), and on the 25th July it was a Green week (Icy Echoes (social awkwardness), Lethal Coalescence (green circle), Flash Freeze (jump) - mostly annoying effects).
The Icy Echoes effect in particular is quite a lot like the original social awkwardness (albeit without any visual cue apart from the icon), in that your group needs to slightly spread out to avoid hurting each other. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 11:00, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
Yep it's the weekly rotating effects. For Icy Echoes or Frigid Footfalls, a Fresh air Tempest or condi scourge is preferable for that reason in this strike as they work in all scenarios at 300+ range. I have tried holosmith with grenade kit and photon forge (240 radius) but it's more finnicky with respect to utilities. With a melee based composition it is difficult to stay out of range of other people or outside the approximately 180-200 range of Frigid Footfalls. The frigid footfalls damage is health percentage based, on my minstrel firebrand it still does 10% health damage. As a result if running melee composition it's a good idea to have daredevils run Signet of Malice plus Invigorating Precision if running 2 heals for the entire squad , renegades run Dance of Death, soulbeasts run Predator's Cunning. I've also seen people run scrappers for the 15% damage to barrier conversion. Life Infusion «T» 19:47, 26 July 2020 (UTC)

Feedback 2020/08/14[edit]

Some potentially useful additions:

1. More details on Varina's breakbar mechanics. It doesn't seem to work like other boss'. It pops up several times in rapid succession early on in the fight - you break it but it's right back up in just a few seconds, without a visible recharge. Then at some point it stays broken for a long while. Then it comes back up, and when you break it it gains the slowly recharging orange bar, which allows you to break her again when it fills completely. I'm not sure if this is bugged or intended and what causes the different phases.

2. Rewards section doesn't contain details on the physical bonus chests you can get from successful phases. I'm also not certain what the max number of chests is - I've gotten as many as 5 small chests + 1 big chest, but based on the arrangement of the chests on the ground it would appear that 6 small chests might be possible. They are not autolooted - you must interact with them like Essence Chests.

3. Might be worth noting that you can fairly easily gain 30 stacks of the two non-current-week essence colors from the mobs in order to gain their bonuses and special actions. However, it's somewhat inconsistent whether any individual mob will drop essence or not (in particular it seems that mobs killed with the artillery skill don't drop essences.)

4. Might be worth a Note/Bug comment on the wonky mechanic for starting with the arena wall - generally a few people get stuck outside. You have to keep running forward and eventually it will port you in. Also, if you die or enter the strike late, you can resurrect when everyone is out of combat (e.g. between waves), unlike other strikes.

For this, the squad strategy we've used in private squads is to walk/run away from the wall. It then places you just inside the wall. Given what you type, I wonder if there is a timer on this, and we've been looking at correlation and not causation. --Hesione (talk) 19:50, 7 December 2020 (UTC)

2021/10/04 Defiance Bar Mechanics[edit]

Needs to be tested:

-Size of Varinia's defiance bar.

-Under what conditions does the defiance bar unlock, and for how long/under what conditions does it lock again.

-Under what conditions does breaking the bar turn into a recovering (orange) bar instead of refilling or locking instantly.

-Does the defiance bar always cause the same effect (removes the rotating weekly effects e.g. icy echoes.)

-For how long are the rotating weekly effects stopped (my personal observations is they will sometimes come back after the bar has recovered, as opposed to the moment the bar recovers.)

-When considered altogether, is there a possibility of multiple defiance bars with different conditions/functions that causes the seemingly inconsistent behavior of them?
