- Are there any programs available to view the Cinematics, and other files, that are in the GW2.dat file ?
- I had asked the Cinematic question on the Talk:Cinematic page earlier this year, but got no response. I am asking again here as part of larger project:
- Is there any index to GW2.dat that links the index number of its files to a description ?
If one downloads GW2 Browser and you can see that it divides the data file into 31 file types:
- Animation Sequences
- Audio Scripts

and more than 650,000 entries (with highest index number ~2,500,000).
File types that can be viewed/played in GW2Browser:
- EULA - Text version of EULA
- Models - 3D rotatable models
- Soundbank - Character/NPC Narration
- Sounds - Sound Effects
- Strings - Text Strings in 5 languages
- Text - code, HTML documents, 3rd Party software references, other
- Textures - Graphics of various types
File types that can be used with an external program:
- Bink Videos - Viewable with a viewer from http://www.radgametools.com/bnkdown.htm
- Font - Seem to be TTF files, but not valid when downloaded
The remaining types are presented in a Hex Editor format, with 16 hexadecimal characters followed by 16 ascii characters on each line
Is there any site that has a descriptive index for the useful numbered files? One user has made a start, but is there a centralized spot on the wiki for one ?
I realize that it would be tough to describe the differences between one muddy brown texture and another, but entries like these are sufficiently distinct to warrant being included in a file index:
