Talk:Ancient Karka Chest

  • An Ancient Karka Chest was received through in-game mail from The Guild Wars 2 Customer Support Team on 8th December 2012 on some accounts, bearing the following notice:
"From GW2 Customer Support:
This message has a replacement item for you (or another character on your account). If the items belong to another character, please log in with that character to accept. Enjoy!"
  • One character on the mail recipient's account did indeed do the Southsun Cove unique event on that weekend, but despite being in an instance where lead-up quests were still occurring and the finale was still to happen, it never materialized. This is probably the reason why the item was received (without prompting) from Customer Support.
  • This probably merits some kind of entry under Notes, but I'm not sure what yet. Maybe we should wait first until full details emerge of who has received the item this way and who has not. Morgaine 10:21, 8 December 2012 (UTC)
My wife and I received one in the mail even though the chest did spawn for us at the end of the event. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 14:38, 8 December 2012 (UTC)
me2 my character completed the whole event and opened the chest at the end, but has also received this mail with the replacement item. --BramStoker (talk, contribs) 18:27, 8 December 2012 (UTC)
I didn't participate in the end event and I got one in the mail. Maybe it's a nice gesture from ANet? -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 15:54, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
My friend just informed me that ANet mailed people who werent on, this chest. Sadly I didn't get one. 124.191.60.179 10:53, 10 December 2012 (UTC)
So, the input so far suggests the worst of all possibilities: it's entirely random. I don't for one instant believe that this was intentional, which means that whatever decision process ArenaNet tried to implement, it's very broken. :-( Morgaine 11:22, 10 December 2012 (UTC)
It's pretty unlikely that this was a mistake, as it's a customer support mail, and you don't accidentally create a customer support ticket for players who didn't report any... I did most of the Lost Shores activities/achievements; it's only the final event where I didn't participate. Maybe they have a participation measure to decide who gets one? For example, those who didn't log on at all during that weekend probably won't get one. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 13:41, 11 December 2012 (UTC)
Your theory doesn't match our observations here though. The player I first mentioned participated in the events for many hours on the day but didn't get the chest in-game, so that justifies the chest being received in mail from CS. In contrast I personally received the chest from the Ancient Karka at the event, but did not receive another in mail (which is as I expected of course), but Dr Ishmael and his wife and BramStoker did receive another in mail despite having received one in game. Those 3 possibilities do not seem to form a consistent set under any theory that anyone has proposed so far, which is why "random" or "broken" appear to be the best current explanations. ("Random" seems very unlikely, so most probably "broken" is the answer.) Morgaine 08:33, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
Just to note, I did get a chest in the mail and one ingame as well. I played though event and looted chest on my ele. Then I hopped to overflow to try again on ele, but at end chest spawned, but it was already looted. 68.37.71.115 17:29, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

Two versions[edit]

Note that there are two versions of this item. The original item as looted from Lost Shores contains only the shell trinket and 20-slot box. The random gear was looted directly from the Grand Chest along with the AKC. The AKC that was sent in the mail by customer service contains the shell items as well as the random gear. I'm not sure if anyone has reported saving the original AKC until after the new ones were mailed out. In theory, if the chest was simply upgraded post facto (as opposed to being a new item) a person who had saved an original chest would be able to "double loot" the random items (having already done it once from the Grand Chest and then opening the upgraded AKC). Or, otherwise, a person who opens an original chest will not get the random items as indicated on the page. Since this is a one-time event and most AKCs have been opened it probably doesn't matter a whole lot but it's probably worth figuring out if possible, and noting it for accuracy. 76.253.0.17 05:50, 17 February 2013 (UTC)

If you bothered to read this talk page, you would see this was already discussed.--Relyk ~ talk > 11:19, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
If you bothered to read this talk page, you would see that it wasn't. I do realize that you are wrong a lot, though. 76.253.0.17 18:59, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
